Bro I do not think you want people running around fuckin slashing your ass in half with swords to fight off on your daily commute. It's NOT like one piece. Trust me. Also, I just want to point out that nobody worries about having to defend themselves against an active shooter in japan. Because they banned guns. Empirically, the thing we would expect to happen if banning firearms results in significantly less homicides with firearms has happened in every single nation that has done that. No, Switzerland is not an exception. You cannot just walk into a gun store and buy a gun like in the US (partially) because they actually want to make sure you aren't insane before you do (and also because there's like four gun stores in the whole country). People usually only get military issue firearms they receive after their compulsory military service. I do not think you want the govmnt to even build roads, let alone conscript people for compulsory military service once they reach a certain age. Even though that would objectively make the owners of firearms actually responsible.

Why make a law where it is hard to get a knife if what crimanals do is break the law?
@joepopplewell6805 ай бұрын
Because regular people become criminals when they do a crime. It's not like people are born criminals. Of course criminals disobey the law, but if you have more regular people with weapons you'll have more people becoming criminals by using them incorrectly. That's like saying why ban heroin if people are still going to use it? You can still have a knife and sword, you just need a good reason, and there are restrictions in place depending on the area and the situation. Certain types of knives are banned to make it harder for people to conceal weapons. It's not like people are disadvantaged in any way. Americans just cry everytime the government regulates something. The US has no right to lecture any developed nation its laws especially not this topic with a far far safer nation.

Higonokami was not banned by Japanese government! There was an action by citizens to prevent the usage after the assassination of the politician in 1960. For example, the teachers told the students not to bring Higonokami to school. However, it is worth to note that there was a debate at national congress at that time to support the declining knife industry after this civil actions. Some government funds were sent financial support to knifesmiths which suffered from large returns and stock pile. And any source about the law passed in 1961? There is a law to control the possession of firearms/knifes in Japan, but it was enacted in 1958, before the incident in 1960. It is true that Higonokami is no longer the major utility knife in Japan. But you can still purchase Higonokami at some stores in Japan.

im pretty sure the assassin used a smaller type of sword that wasn't a traditional katana but im not sure.

Insane that the entire country has to outlaw essentially a pen knife over an assassination. Maybe they should have outlawed assassinating and they could have avoided this 😂

Yeah, no knives like they're an issue, but you could easily conceal a kitchen knife (which also have sheaths), and it has been demonstrated in Japan by assassination recently that you can still create a firearm in weapon-restricted countries. It's not the means we should be concerned about, it's about the MOTIVE, and the overall mental health of a nation's people. Anything else is unjust gov't control over a nation's populace.

Your information is mostly correct, but there are some inaccuracies. Miki City in Hyogo Prefecture, which is the birthplace of the Higonokami, was not known for producing swords but rather was famous as a production site for carpentry tools such as chisels and planes. The notion that Japanese sword craftsmen shifted to becoming craftsmen of Higonokami is incorrect.
