This means that when it is down material or having to save the game, it doesn't try to be tricky because it always thinks the opponent will see it. Instead, it plays to try to exaggerate the game's length as long as possible. Conveniently, this usually makes the bot play a lot of counterplay, because the counterplay that it makes the opponent will have to deal with before being able to attack, which exaggerates the game's length. Inconveniently, this makes it play for draws, which might not work in games were it could've won by being tricky. There is actually a solution to this, which is kinda complicated but still possible. There is a little known chess engine called Maia, and it tries to find the most human moves from 1100-1800 ELO. If Maia-1800, the highest rated Maia, was merged with Stockfish, Stockfish would be able to come up with extremely tricky lines that most 1800 ELO players would miss! This would actually be a very useful tool for coming up with lines in high rated events. I'd like to see a programmer(s) try to do that sometime.

It's like when you play bots or computers on weak settings, sometimes you will still not find the correct line simply because when they blitz the move out you'll think either you must have blundered, you didn't play as strong of a move as you thought you did, or they are very confident that the move they just played was the best. That psychology is quite effective.
