Prutaš is one of the most beautiful peaks of Durmitor. Nowhere in Durmitor, the view from the peak is so impressive and breathtaking as from Prutaš summit.
On Friday 29 July 2022, we parked our car at Šarban (1,700 m) near the R-16, which is a beautiful panoramic road, crossing the southern part of the Durmitor National Park in an East-West direction. Durmitor National Park is a breathtaking massif located in Northernwestern Montenegro and belongs to the Dinaric Alps. At 8:00 am, we left the parking spot and one hour later we reached the sadle Škrčko Ždrüelo (2,114 m). At 10:00 am, we arrived at the top of the mount Prutaš (2,393 m), from where we had a magnificent 360° panoramic view on the Durmitor region and the impressive nearby Bobotov kuk (2,522 m), which is the highest mountain of the Durmitor National Park and was longtime considered as the highest mountain in Montenegro. However, three peaks near the border with Albania appear to be slightly higher. The hike to the top of the Prutaš was not difficult and is perfectly doable with children. After the top, we didn’t return along the same path but we took the steep descend towards Veliko Šrčko Jezero and Malo Šrčko Jezero, where millions of flies flourished … not the ideal situation for lunch… After lunch, we had to climb the sadle Škrčko Ždrüelo again, but this time from the northern flank (14:15 pm). After a short break on top of the sadle, we arrived back at the parking lot at 15:30 pm.
