Located in the southeast of Montenegro, Prokletije National Park is a huge expanse of wilderness that forms the border with Albania and Kosovo. Being so scenic and remote, this park is one of the best-kept secrets of Europe. The best way to discover the jagged peaks, valleys, and springs, is by hiking one of the many trails. And given the remoteness of this region, you’ll see very few people hiking here. In this video, we’ll show you 5 of the best things to do in Prokletije, including both short stops and longer hikes.
5. The Blue Eye & Ropojane Valley
Located in Ropojane Valley, the Blue Eye, or literally translated the “Eye of the Grashopper” (Oko Skakavice), is a turquoise mountain lake that was formed by a karst spring. It’s easy to get here from the Grlja waterfall.
4. Grlja Waterfall
The Grlja waterfall is located next to the parking lot just before entering the Ropojana Valley walking trail. It’s powered by water from the Blue Eye and fresh water from the surrounding mountains.
3. Kusije Waterfall
From the Grlja Waterfall, you can follow a 1.8 km or 1.1 mile trail that leads to the Kusije Waterfall. Surrounded by a lush forest, nature is at its best here.
2. Ali Pasha’s Springs
Located right outside of Gusinje, Ali Pasha’s Springs are numerous pools that join together into one big stream flow.
1. Volušnica-TalIjanka-Popadija trail
If you only have time for one hike in the Prokletije Mountains, head to the Grebaje Valley. From here, you have numerous trail options and Volušnica is the most scenic one.

Hello, great Video! How difficult was the hike? Do you need special equipment or alpine experience or so?
@worldwildhearts

The hike is physically demanding (there's definitely some elevation), but it's not technical or anything. The trail is well-maintained and the path is easy to follow. there's lots of grass on the slopes so it doesn't feel scary either! enjoy!!

Hey! Nice video! Is this route as hard as the Prutas Peak? Thanks a lot

It’s as physically demanding for sure. A bit of exposure on the ridge as well but we didn’t find it bad. Maybe depends on how comfortable you are with exposure / steep inclines!

How long do you think it could take to do all the trekking you've shown in the video? 2 days maybe? Is it easy to find accommodation in the area? Planning to go there on our next holiday that would be either the end of March or July and August. What do you think the weather is like in those months? Sorry for so many questions and a big thank you for your useful and inspiring videos. You make the absolutely best travelling videos on KZfaq ❤

2-3 days is ideal! Volusnica is a full day hike, but the others are just small treks that can be combined into one day. July or August would be better. The snow might not have melted at the end of March so not sure the trails would be accessible. May/ June or September / October would also be a good time to visit as there will be less people! ☺️ and thanks for the nice feedback 😇

Is it allowed to swim in the blue lake?
@worldwildhearts

There was no sign that doesn't allow it. We were there by ourselves though so didn't see anyone swim. It was too cold for that anyway!
