Cattail Cove State Park is just sixteen miles south of Lake Havasu City right on the shore of beautiful Lake Havasu in Arizona. Hiking is one of the several activities that this park has to offer and we have hiked here a couple of times. We hiked Whytes Retreat Trail which begins at the park near the boat ramp and follows the shoreline. This portion of the hike is easy and offers stunning views of Lake Havasu. Once reaching the end of Whytes Retreat Trail, we turned away from Lake Havasu and followed Ted’s Trail. This section is a bit hillier and travels through low desert hills with sparse vegetation. Finally, we connected with the last portion of the McKinney Loop back to the parking area.
Cattail Cove State Park has a nice campground with 61 sites and numerous boat-in sites. The park has a boat ramp, swimming beach, picnic area, hiking trails and opportunities for boating, fishing, or jet skiing.
Lake Havasu is a large reservoir formed by the Parker Dam on the Colorado River. The reservoir is twenty-six miles long with an average depth of thirty-five feet and a maximum depth of ninety feet. Lake Havasu was named after the Mojave word for blue.
