Valley of Fire State Park is located about forty-five miles northeast of Las Vegas Nevada and makes for a perfect day trip from the city. Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s first state park and the largest in the state. Valley of Fire derives its name from the bright red sandstone, which can appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays. The sandstone at Valley of Fire is from the Jurassic Period, when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
White Domes Road, also known as Mouse’s Tank Road, is the main scenic drive in the park. Along the colorful scenic drive, there are several hiking trails, narrow canyons, petroglyphs, and beautiful desert viewpoints to enjoy. White Domes Road is an eleven mile out and back road, which starts near the visitor center.
In this video we also visit the Beehives, which is a distinctive sandstone formation sculpted over millions of years by wind and water. The White Domes Area of Valley of Fire really highlights the stark beauty of the park and displays the colorful orange, pink and yellow sandstone also found in the park. Balancing Rock near the visitor center, which somehow defies gravity. Finally, the petrified logs which are approximately 150 million years old.
