Three years ago I made a commitment to get into hiking. It has literally changed my life! I've lost 30 kg, gotten much better work ethics and enjoyed numerous adventures that I never thought I would. Today, I do at least a 7 km hike each day, even if I have to go up at 4 am to squeeze it in before I have to go to work. Starting to use hiking as exercise is the best decision I've ever made.

You've inspired me. last night I went to bed early and got up early this morning so I could go on a hike and I think I captured one of the best images in my portfolio; fog, light, the whole nine yards. So thank you my friend.

I'm always torn between the 2 ideas of hiking. The huge American hike through that is 2000 miles and takes months but you constantly have contact with other people and there are villages every day or two. And the Scottish Highland hiking where you meet 5 people a day, stay in a bothy or in a tent and there is no civilisation in sight for days if you plan your route nicely.

@@KNURKonesur You got a point there. My girlfriend and I did the Rockwall hike in Canadian rockies, ealy winter 2017, which was a 5 day hike. Didnt see people for 4 days only a thick layer of snow.

As I told my doctor the other day, I'm getting exercise, and it's all because of the magnet of doing outdoor photography to remote locations. So much goodness comes from a photography hike.

I'm happiest when I'm out hiking/exploring with my camera, great for exercise but also great for mental well being, to escape out into the landscape and explore, away from the daily grind and just be.

This is one of the best photography videos I’ve ever seen! Honestly could watch hours of this. One of my goals for 2021 is to do exactly what this video is about-go out an explore. My favorite part of this video is when you’re on the beach and point out that the camera is just an excuse to be there. That’s EXACTLY how I feel about photography. It’s the perfect reason to do anything. Thank you for making this.

Man, you do enjoy what you're doing. I'm following your work last few months and, even I'm not a big fan of landscapes unless there's some minimalism, the way you share your time there, with others, is what captured my attention. I like very much the way you present your work and your time, and the hope projected in the footage. All my respects, kudos!

A mighty fine video, Thomas. No reason for you to have remembered, but some time back I commented on the days when I first found your channel. There was hiking, camping, and nature photography as the focus, rather than those days when you drove to your locations with the super outfitted vehicle and spent a lot of time promoting its convenience. These are the videos that hold a person's attention. Thumbs up for this one.

You know... it's weird, the more i come to this channel, the more i relate to what you say at 11:06 pointing to your camera: 'this is just an excuse to be here...' it's like... photography is falling into a secondary thing and not the main reason of watching your videos..? like... i come here more for the experience of nature and relaxation (nice music btw) rather than to learn about photography. I know photography is the main thing, it's what the channel is about, but when i see a new video from you on my timeline is more like... 'great! let's (kind of) enjoy nature from my chair...' It's not a criticism at all anyway, just the way i started to feel your uploads... and they are beautiful!

Occasionally people will ask me why I do landscape photography. And I'll say something like "it gives me something to do while I'm looking at nature". I love photography. I've been at it for over 40 years now. But, the most important thing is just being out experiencing nature.

Hikes. The true meaning of it isn't just the end, but the way there that matters also. All our hikes when hardship, pain, and/or joy are worth it when you can have a moment with the camera. Even if that moment is fleeting or leaping like a fairy and nearly impossible to catch. We landscape photographers have expansive studios, don't we? Thanks for the inspiring video, Tom!

Thanks Thomas. I got a bit of "cabin fever" myself with the current situation and last weekend I snapped and called a friend to go out and hike. Pack the camera with it, of course. But the main goal was to go on a hike. Be outside, get some exercise in. Loved it. Missed it for a long time and I realized that my mood is 10 times better today. I think this is one of the real "bad things" from the current situation - Not being able to go out all day and especially that everybody get's real mental and clogs up every little spot they can find "because they need to be outside". My area is overrun with people that want to be outside and "in the local mountains". It makes it impossible for me to go to any spot because many places are locked from the streets and so it's not easy to reach another location. Thanks for this and I will check out the playlist. Even if I know some of it already. Keep it up and stay safe.
