Come along with me today as I hike around Brontë Country in West Yorkshire, England. Due to COVID-19 I wasn't able to access the church interior so used my photographs from a visit back in 2014. Also, the Brontë chair had children playing on it - so I inserted a photograph instead.

What can I say, you manage to visually and mentally transport me every time. Love the way you include yourself climbing the fences or having a bite to eat so we can picture ourselves in that very place. Also love that sheep are always present, they’re such a lovely peaceful creature. I always get excited when I see your post because I know the video will be amazing. That first 38 seconds gave me feelings of Downton Abbey. The music was similar and the travel along the route was reminiscent of the Downton opening. But of course, this Lady Mary is far kinder than Mary Crawley.

Myself and my Wife Amanda walked up to the Bronte waterfalls yesterday and spent some time around the bridge soaking up the atmosphere. After this we went to the Cemetery in Howarth. I just couldn't find Tabatha's grave but I remembered that you covered it in your vlog. So there I am in the Cemetery skipping through the vlog until I found the exact spot. If it wasn't for you we would have missed it. Thanks again Mary.

Kinda sci-fi- ish that Mary is the only soul there !! Did ya'll notice just how clean the town & streets were ???? Someone has pride in their town 🙂😀 MARY, ur mind is a marvel that u can remember all that information and then b able to speak as if chit chatting with a mate 🤔😁. U r amazing 😅 It must be the food u eat 👅 ... Stimulating brain cells !!! lol. The BBC will be calling rather soon I'm d think. Looking 2 signing u up !!!!!! But seriously what a great job u do !!!!! Thank you so much Traky boy! Learning all the information does take a while so I am really pleased it comes over as natural (I do usually sneak a peak at my notes just before I turn the camera on though!). If only the BBC would stumble across me, they could help with frizzy hair, make-up, lighting and sound...maybe one day🤣 So glad you enjoyed it and thanks again for your support and wonderful comments😁

This is such a great video. You have allowed me to feel as though I am there and seeing the Bronte's village and parsonage. Mary, the cemetery gravestones are so beautiful. Thanks for telling us about Tabitha and showing her gravestone. This is one place I would really like to see in person. From your monthly favorites the book "The Bronte's" I purchased and I am reading it now. I now can visualize the buildings and landscape. The stones that are books are a nice touch. The moorlands are beautiful. I noticed in recent videos that you have been wearing purple top and shoes not your normal blue/teal. Purple is my favorite color. But that hue sure matched your surroundings at times. Beautiful and serene scenery on this hike. Thank you Mary, for the wonderful history lesson and hike. Blessings and safe hiking.

I've only just come across this video, as I was looking into buying a drone and wanted to see if anyone else has taken any footage from the skies. I walk my dog up here daily and you're done a cracking job at telling the history of the place. I was born here and my family have lived here for generations. You taught me somethings I never knew about the place ;-) Also it's great to see you visited the Alcomden stones as not many tourists know about them, it was a shame you never showed the ones with all the holes in. @29:40 very brave of you to walk on that rock as it's one hell of a drop down there and can get extremely windy at times, it's unfortunate you didn't keep walking up that way for another few minutes as there's a little waterfall and on the other side there's a few rocks with Emily Bronte and I think Catherine Earnshaw's names inscribed into them. All the best!

Mary, thank you so much for this video. Like a lot of Americans, I read and loved the Brontes' novels as a teenager (they were taught to us in high school English lit class) and re-read them as an adult, which deepened my appreciation of them. Since moorland is rather where I live, I could only imagine what a moor looked like and how it would symbolize the wild, romantic nature of the characters. Thanks to you, I have now actually seen the moors for the first time. They would be beautiful even without the literary resonance, truthfully. But I never thought I would see the setting of these much-loved books come alive like this. What a gift you've given us.

A good documentary of your walk. I know that you mention the terrain, but people thinking of walking up there do need to wear suitable clothing for the the weather. It can be very harsh up there with wind and rain. It is often boggy and the stepping stones under water. Only saying as I live local and am speaking from experience. @ItsVideos
@ItsVideos 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikesaunders4775 Hi Mike. Please tell me which scenes you are referring to. Scenes of the W.H. house and the surrounding moor, and of Heathcliff and Cathy climbing up to Penistone Crag were filmed in what is now Thousand Oaks. Those locations are within 1.5 miles of my house. The W.H. house was constructed here for the movie, but apparently was torn down to build residential houses. I am interested in how you acquired the notion that W.H. was filmed in Chatsworth because in the Feb. 19, 1989 issue of the New York Times, A. Scott Berg wrote an article about W.H. which briefly claimed the same thing. I have not been able to contact him to ask about it, which is why I would like to hear what you have to say. If there are some scenes that were filmed in Chatsworth, I would like to know what they are. Most of the Penistone Crag close-up scenes were done in the studio (they would not force Merle Oberon (Cathy) to endure a chilling torrential downpour in Chatsworth, would they?). Maybe there are a couple other Penistone Crag scenes that were filmed in Chatsworth? FWIW IMDb does not list Chatsworth as a filming location for W.H.
@mikesaunders4775
@mikesaunders4775 2 жыл бұрын
@@ItsVideos Hi Fish. I wish I could be more specific about the locations , but I stumbled upon the Chatsworth connection several years ago in an article in one of the English tabloids. These are not always the most reliable sources, but I knew that Lorna Doone. another film set in the moorlands of England was shot at the Iverson Ranch, so Wuthering Heights also being filmed there seemed reasonable. I have tried to confirm this through IMDB, but without success. They do confirm the Thousand Oaks set though. I am a huge fan of westerns and cop shows, many of which I know to have been made in the Chatsworth area(Highway Patrol, Perry Mason, Bonanza etc). Interestingly one of the great tourist attractions in The Peak District is 'Chatsworth House'.
@ItsVideos
@ItsVideos 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikesaunders4775 I just watched Lorna Doone (1951). I think the chases on horseback were filmed in Chatsworth. They were were reminiscent of American Western television series and films. The waterfall scenes looked like an editing blend of Yosemite Valley and studio shots. Wuthering Heights (1939) did a very good job of capturing the English moor look. The land surrounding the stone house looks very similar to 32:12 in Mary's video. I suspect they may have used this view as a model for the film.
