It's been raining all week so I just decided to pick a misty day this week and head out to the old abandoned Lost Cove settlement in Erwin Tennessee. The ghostly feel of this hike with the fog nestled in the nearby trees was amazing. Come along as we hike down to the settlement, explore the remaining structures, and then hike down to the train tracks and the river with a beautiful view.
I made this video to prove that hiking can be amazing in any weather, and it didn't disappoint!

I grew up in n.c. I've camped weeks out of my life in that place. I know it well. My favorite place in the world. BTW. Watch out for snakes. LOL 😂

We were kayaking the Nolichucky River and climbed up there along Devil's creek. It was spring and there were lots of baby snakes. Doesn't look like it has changed in 25 years. I noticed the tin roof hasn't rusted much. Sure made that stuff good back then. On another trip we had an injured kayaker and hiked up and across the trestle. Just after we got across, there was a train coming up the river. Really not even close, but trains are frequent along those tracks.

Much much shorter way to get to the trail via Spivey Mtn Rd…. Looks like you went across Unaka Mtn.

From our place in Johnson City I actually fooled myself into thinking I could come across the backside of the Mountain and get there faster but learned that the dirt road I wanted to take is marked as private property! LOL So eventually did get back over to 19W (I show the maps on the video as I'm driving), then continued to turn right on Howell Branch Rd and finally left on FS278 (the dirt road - signage said "E Flat Tops" at the beginning). It's definitely not easy to tell people how to get to that parking area using Google Maps because most of the road isn't even shown there! haha!

1) I am moving to the area, and will for sure make this hike! 2) I love the music in this video! Who are the artists? What is the name of the songs?

Hi Matt! That's great news! Lot's of amazing hiking around here, you won't be disappointed at all. I grab songs from either Epidemicsound.com or Soundstripe.com. They have lots of amazing artists - but I couldn't tell you which these are because I grab different music every week and don't usually make a note of the artist names. They are amazing though, I have to agree with you on that!

A friend of mine who occasionally hikes the AT went up there a few years ago. He said that there was nothing there now. No houses, no barns, nothing to show anyone was there. Now I'm wondering if he went somewhere else.

I was touched by this beautiful music. My time stamps may not be exact but I wanted these artists to have credit. ❤

Have you started this hike at Devils Creek trail off of Flat Top Rd? Much easier in my opinion.

Yes exactly, I eventually made it up via Flat Top Rd after working my way back to 19W which I should have taken south from Johnson City in the first place!
