In July 2022 we set out to walk the Cape Wrath Trail. When planning the trip we used a book published by Cicerone written by Iain Harper known as the Cicerone book in which the different route options are split into stages, 14 in total.
This series of videos is presented in stages as detailed in the Cicerone book.
This is our part seven which shows stage 14 of the Cicerone book. We try to show the route, the terrain and possible camp spots along the way.
Join us on our journey to see if we make it.

Fantastic! Well done to you both. You kept me entertained the whole way. Will be interesting to see how I cope this Aug/Sep. Flights booked and training in progress! OAP attempts Cape Wrath Trail for me! With regards the person staying in the bothy for 5 weeks that is completely unacceptable to me. Maybe the MBA don't know about this but they should! He can't be squatting in a bothy. Thanks for the great footage. You guys travel so well together it's amazing! Well done and what a well deserved glass of wine!

Thank you iain. I think August is a good time. There will be midges but make sure you have a midge free tent and you'll be OK. The rivers will be less in spate. I think you'll make it as I think you will have planned well. Good luck. I'd be interested to see your video. We are going to watch your skye trail videos today in preparation for our 'attempt' in April. Happy hiking iain.

Fantastic video on The Cape Wrath Trial,loved every minute of it thank you. I see no one has commented yet about the bloke in the bothy. I do Understand sometimes people are down on their luck they need somewhere to live, but I believe the bothy are people to escape bad weather or sleep overnight. it seems they have to move him on and get the help he’s needing. But to be talking about Devil worshipping shit was he trying to frighten you off I would of been gone. how can you relax and sleep with a person like that I would advise people to avoid the bothy till he’s gone. Thank you for the video

Hi Bickie, he has gone now as I've seen more recent videos of that bothy and there is no sign of him. From our conversation it seems his family did try to help him but he saw that as them all being against him so he disowned them. He was fascinated with James Smith who did a similar thing with his family. He did try to send us the wrong way from the bothy to Cape wrath. I will never know if he did that on purpose but I had my GPS route and knew he wasn't correct but yes he would have sent us out in completely the wrong direction. Thank you Bickie for your comments.

Well done to the pair of you! I have watched many CWT videos and your series is by far the best. You showed many clips of hitherto unseen places, which were refreshing to see. I highly rate your series on the epic CWT journey. You were fortunate with the weather, but your enthusiasm would have seen you completing the walk no matter what the weather threw at you. The mapping you used was very informative. Your handwritten notes on the maps and the 3D Google Earth clips were so good. I would liked to have seen relevant Grid References of good camping spots and other worthy sites included. For some reason, very few people include them. Hopefully you will post a video on your overall thoughts on the trip, showing a full description of the equipment you used and perhaps anything you think you should have taken, or anything you would have changed.
@tubbatravels

Thanks for the feedback. I used to do 'what 3 words' of where we camped but somehow I've stopped doing that. Grid references is a good thought so I'll defo consider that in the future. Do you use what 3 words or are grid references the best way? My motto for equipment is use everything, need nothing which I think I've nearly got right now after several thru - hikes. Oh my, my first through hike saw my ruck sack at just over 20KGs , way too much and left me shaking all over after 18 - 20 miles, never again. That's a young mans game. I spent a while spending most of my wages on newer light weight gear but that;'s money well spent in my book. Thank you for your comments.

WOW. You guys just totally nailed it. Congratulations for making it and also producing the most entertaining series of vlogs on the CWT so far. I quite literally have watched them all and would like to say a big thanks to all the others that have shared their epic journey to this wonderful place. What makes yours outstanding is the best use of the selfie stick . Ten percent of you on the cam and the rest showing the trail. Great combination. Yours is the only vlog to have shown the trail in fine detail , so we can see things others have not shown. Example , not one single vlogger gave us a tour of the path around the lighthouse plus superlative views of Sandwood Bay. As for the guy living in the bothy......to be honest....taking the piss. A lot of long distance hikers who could really use the shelter, might have to miss out on account of this selfish weirdo. Another vlogger came to a bothy where a whole extended family of people ( not hikers ) were using the place like a free hotel , parking as near as they could then squatting for a cheap holiday. Sad. Well , a long comment but thanks again for the great vlogs.Much appreciated.

Thank you, I love your long comment. Well we watch a lot of videos when we prepare for hikes and often I am a bit frustrated at the lack of views and often the whole video is the person talking into the camera. I hope I learned from that plus no one wants to see my big bald head and craggy face for too long, he he he. This was my first time to meet someone 'living' in a bothy and I did wonder if I should have told the MBA about him but I didn't. I have since watched a video of that bothy shot after we went and he was no longer there but yes I agree, taking the piss and only thinking of himself. Thanks again Bang Yai, thanks for making it to the end with us.

@tubbatravels Жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael. When to go, it's a tough call. May, the rivers will be deep. After that there will be midges. This was my thinking. Trail runners are for those who want to plough through rivers and keep going, they will save you time. My feet couldn't stand being wet all day. We decided to take river crossing shoes and take a bit more time swapping shoes and a quick dry of the feet but it didn't rain much for us so most rivers were crossable with boots on. Going thru bog with boots, I used my poles to test the ground before I stepped. That also takes a bit longer but it worked and I kept my feet dry. Midges aren't that bad if you wear long trousers long sleeves and have a head net. Just don't let any in your tent. I made a video called ten ways to beat the midges. These things seemed to work for us. Trail runners are much lighter. For me the biggest question is can your feet cope with being wet all day for 14 days or more? Good luck and let us know how you got on.

Thanks for the reply, I don’t like the idea of walking with wet feet, recipe for blisters so boots it will be and something to wear on my feet for river crossings. All biting insects seem to be attracted to me so I’m going to watch your video and work it a way to cope with them. May looks like a low rainfall month, haha, so that’s when I’m planning to go. I will let you know how I get on.

That guy in the bothy sounds like a weirdo to me , you don't move into a bothy for 5 weeks , a bothy is for one night or 2 nights nights max , if climbing munros .

Yep I agree. Some one told me that the next week a group of hikers kind of moved him on so that was the end of his stay.

@@tubbatravels I just finished the trail last week, the night I camped on Sandwood Bay , a 85 year hillwalker ,had a special treat and flew in by helicopter to that bothy and stayed the night with friends. To celebrate his birthday 🎂

@@sbc1t well done for completing. Excellent. I hope I'm still hill walking at 85, not sure I'd ever go in a helicopter though. Have you posted any photos or videos anywhere ?
