Thanks for posting this. I always thought the Zealand area was so unique compared to the rest of the WMNF. Betweeen the waterfalls, wetlands and bogs and realative ease of walking. So cool.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am uploading a gear video about this spring gear but I'm already working on the summer version which will hopefully be even better with more detailed looks at the gear.

Lovely narration and sound tract. I can't get over the labour of love gone into that trail maintenance! Thank you. Is that a Townsends' Warbler? @23:00 (Sibley Birds East)

I love your videos Rachel! Can't believe you met up with my other two favorite hiking KZfaqrs, The Wandering Soules! I watch their videos religiously and have learned a lot from them and you! Thanks so much! Zealand looks like a fun hike and not as imposing as some of the other 4k footers. I keep saying I need to stay at one of the huts and that looks like one I might try soon. I just finished my sixth 4K footer, Eisenhower, last week. It was a great day. Light wind and very clear so had some good views. I think Monroe, Washington and Clay loop is next. Up Ammo and down Jewell trail I believe. Wanna pick a good day so I can get the view reward. Was gonna go today but the weather just didn't cooperate. Oh well. Take care Rachel and be safe out there.

You did an impressive hike. To do Mt Zealand from the parking lot trailhead and back to the hut, in one day, is a lot of work; the Zeacliff scenic overlook is the reward. Pretty sweet.

Thanks! It felt so much easier the minute I got to Mt Zealand and turned the other way. Always freaks me out as I head more and more into wilderness.

@@RachelWhelton About 10 yrs ago, while biking in the wilderness, I had a very scary 'flash' encounter with a mtn lion. Afterwards, I started carrying bear spray, the Frontiersman brand, on every mtn bike ride and hike. You might want to think about that. I've belt-carried that spray on hundreds of rides, dozens of hikes; we feel more confident now. In fact, four years ago, did come across a momma black bear with 3 cubs. Everyone behaved, but it can happen. The Frontiersman brand isn't cheap but well made, reusable, dependable.

Where did you get that little orange thermometer that we keep seeing in your videos? Hubby wants one. We love your videos!

Thanks! I got my first zipper pull thermometer from Garage Grown Gear. Later I made an order from the manufacturer (for more) on their website. They are called Thermoworks. On my new video (coming soon) you will see my new one, which also shows the humidity.

@@RachelWhelton thank you for responding! Just in time for our anniversary! We are really enjoying your videos, especially the white mountains. We can't wait to go backpacking there on the shoulder seasons. We have done a lot in the Grand Canyon but it's getting expensive to fly out and rent a car, etc. Going closer to home is our new plan.

Nice video! What blue hoodie is that?
@RachelWhelton

I believe that is the Mountain Hardware women's Air Mesh sweater. It is super lightweight and feels like it might be "cheap" but I eventually came to love it and now I have three versions of it. I guess I like the crew neck best but it also comes in a zipper neck and this hoodie version. Seems to always be on sale and I'm not sure if it is in further production or not. I like that it weighs so little, is warm, and thin enough to layer up.
