Thanks, mate! Those tips are very useful indeed.👍 Question, is 10-bit color setting an absolutely necessary?
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
Great question! 10-bit is not absolutely necessary. I do recommend it because of the many times more color shades that are made available in 10-bit vs 8-bit but using 8-bit does not equate to bad footage. You can get good footage with either setting.

You covered pretty much everything 👍I try to keep iso at 100 for the best quality, even iso 400 can look really bad, so i wouldn't recommend iso 800.
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, ISO 100 is definitely best when the lighting allows for it. The GoPro is pretty good about adjusting the ISO automatically so if it gets to the point where it needs to use ISO 800 that is starting to get close to low light territory. I have found the a max of 400 generally works for me but if I’m hiking and going through dark patches of woods I generally need ISO 800 in order for Hypersmooth to work properly in those few darker patches. Otherwise the GoPro lowers the shutter speed too much and things get jittery. If I know the woods are going to be too shady I turn off Hypersmooth and use ReelSteady to stabilize later on.

Good job - very helpful 👍 Which bitrate would you recommend for 5.3K 60fps? As you didn´t talk about the resolution in general and your thoughts between 5.3K and 4K, i´m wondering if you prefer 4K instead of 5.3k?
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
Great question! I like to film in 5.3K and then export in 4K. This makes that 4K finished product look extra good when exporting the 5.3K as 4K. 5.3K isn’t a common standard but 4K is. If you were to export as 5.3K then I would recommend a bitrate of around 100Mbps.

Thanks for the tips ..... Find with my gopro 11 problems arise in 4K modes . An 8:7 5.3 K is clean where as an 8:7 4K (or any aspect ratio ) suffers . Its not so much focus as the camera is having difficulty decerning anything behind say a group of small tree trunks and ends up a murky mess lacking contrast. Going out now to give tips a try.
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I do tend to shoot in 5.3K and then export as 4K. That 8:7 5.3K mode is nice because it uses the entire frame/sensor and allows so much flexibility later on for editing.

Thank you and thanks for sharing this one as well. Yes, I agree that using the standard Hypersmooth is a good idea unless higher stabilization is needed. Standard does work quite well.

I've watched countless hours of videos and tutorials on the settings for the Gopro 11 black and I can finally say after watching your video of unboxing and settings of the Gopro 11 black, my videos finally look great, THANK YOU! I do need a little bit more help & I hope this message reaches you in time. I will be going on a 30 day hike and would like the settings for the sunrise, sunset and night trails for the Gopro 11 Black. I started watching your video's for this type of setting but saw they were for the gopro 10. Would the settings be the same for the 11? I know at the time I wish to capture this footage there will be no moon and I will be taking video of Alpenglow (Morning fleeting Phenomenon) which also happens at sunset. At night I'll be @ around 4000M & no moon in sight I would love to get star trails but I'm a little confused if this should be done in video or photos, plus the settings. Help..... Thanks for your videos what a huge help this has been.
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
I really appreciate your feedback and support! The great thing about Star Trails on the Hero 11 is you can do these within the GoPro and don’t have to do the manual method. The Hero 11 will do all the magic in camera. Check out this video from 1:03 - 4:52 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/briaaqpm3rramqs.html For sunrise and sunset time lapses check out this video. These settings will apply to the Hero 11 as well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hctdoLF-m-CRcnU.html Sunsets are a bit easier to capture than sunrises due to going from light to dark vs dark to light. Photo mode will offer you more flexibility with the RAW files but will require more work with editing afterwards and will also take up significantly more space on your MicroSD card. The video option for time lapses will take up less space and be available as a singular MP4 video file on your MicroSD card. Have a great time!

Love your videos, thank you ... Sorry I watched a few then clued in that I hadn't subscribed!! It's fixed now. I have been playing with my GoPro 12 settings in different scenarios... Sunny day, cloudy, rainy, etc. I think I got em (thanks to you). But when I upload to KZfaq, the videos look rather crappy! On the computer, they look as I intended, but then I watch on KZfaq, they look like they are low resolution? Any tips or tricks on that end of things ... Or videos (I'll parooze your channel). Best I can explain is they have that crappy Jpeg look. I film in 4k and edit (I guess it's called "post") in Resolve 18 (full version) and render in resolve, of course. I also watch KZfaq through my Xbox on my TV... And many folks theirs are clear and crisp. So it's not how I watch ... Yours look perfect?!

My footage is horrible. Hero 10. things are very shaky with the camera being carefully held, trees flicker on and off, one second there is a tree, then it disappears, objects are flickering on and off with a slow pan of the camera. objects apppear to jump in the frame with no relation to each other. like some objects appear solid and other objects jump around. I have clear video when the camera is perfectly still. but very slight movements and things jump around far more than they should. and Ive tried all the settings that are supposed to prevent that. there shouldn't be any settings to cause trees to flicker on and off like they are there and then disappear. camera is brand new out of the box. high speed sd card, played directly on my laptop, not uploaded. high bitrate, all the best settings, tried many setting and this thing is extremely hard to get any usable video. seems like 95 percent of the time its not recording clear, unless in a very well lit area with no camera motion. then it seems to work ok. whats wrong? why so many videos about bad footage? is it really such a struggle for everyone to endlessly have to tweak settings to get a minute of good video out of every hour of recording? the camera seems to struggle all the time to get the right light, has dark shadow that come on and off, etc.

This sounds like your shutter speed in auto may be going too slow. Any camera with electronic image stabilization will have ghosting and jitter if the shutter speed goes too slow. Try manually adjusting your shutter speed to 1/240 or faster and see what your footage looks like then. Have you filmed any footage in bright sunlight? If so, how does that look?
@adamr8628
@adamr8628 2 ай бұрын
@GreatDayForAHike People said to run the shutter speed at double the frame rate so I have been. Some of my testing was on overcast days and that could have affected it. I'm trying different frame rates and expirementing But sunny days weren't much better. Another issue, even in direct sunlight is darkening of the video. If I turn the camera in different directions the video gets darker and then lighter. It's like it struggles to adjust to lighting, even on a bright sunny day. It also looks like less than 1080 at the best. They claim 4k and better but it's just not even 1080. If you pause the video and zoom in, it's blurry. I feel like people are constantly making excuses for gopro and the small sensor. My phone has a very tiny camera and sensor and it's 100x nicer video. Gopro should be nice because it's literally only a camera, not a phone with a better camera built in. . I like the gopro build quality, the app is nice, voice control, dual screens, etc. Everything is so impressive looking but the one thing that should be impressive is the video quality and it's the worst part of the gopro experience.
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 2 ай бұрын
@adamr8628 Shutter speed at twice the frame rate with Hypersmooth on will create jitter and ghosting in the footage unless you’ve got your shutter speed at about 1/200 or faster. Electronic image stabilization on other action cameras will require a similar shutter speed. Many cell phones use optical image stabilization which is a bit better than EIS in certain situations.

@@GreatDayForAHike ok. I did try faster shutter speeds than just double before and it seemed to help, but I didn't know why until you explained that. Thanks. I'm starting to get some better results, and I may keep the camera. I still don't know where to view any razor sharp gopro footage to feel hopeful about the possibilities. Except the gopro company ascI mentioned and maybe that's more than the average user can hope to achieve
