We use these Bullet cameras and the Dome style cameras around our own property and love the quality. We replaced our old foscam cameras for these PoE HD cameras and the difference is unbelievable! We wanted to switch last year, but the cost of a good quality camera was too much, until now. The free Hikvision iVMS 4200 PCNVR is fantastic and the iPhone app called iVMS-4500 and it's super easy to setup.

Thank you for all the videos regarding Hikvision. I bought a Hikvision NVR from a local authorized dealer two years ago and I have had *zero* problems with the NVR and the cameras since the day I installed everything. Yes, the system is more expensive than most everything else out there but you can't argue with 100% uptime.

Hey there. If you had no problems, can you tell me if you get false alarm during early morning when the grey screen changes to colour and in the evening when the daylight changes to night time and the screen goes grey (IR illuminated). I've asked around but nobody seem to have any idea, otherwise they'd responds. How do you stop this false alarm? It's driving me nuts.

Do you attach the dome camera to the vinyl soffit directly with self tapping screws or is there a piece reinforcement (wood) on the other side of the soffit for the screws to go into?
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 6 жыл бұрын
In my case there is nothing on the other side and the metal soffit does hold the camera quite securely in place. I used the screws that came with the camera and it's been holding up for a couple years now. Once the winds hit 60mph, it does shake a tiny bit. It's well protect from most winds in this location. If you can out wood behind the soffit, I would recommend doing so, just in case there is a huge storm or a vandal.

When you mount it to the ceiling, are you just screwing into the vinyl (if that is vinyl) or do you have wood on the other side. I have a vinyl ceiling where I want to mount my cameras and wasn't sure how to do it.
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 8 жыл бұрын
+Greg Ebel The best solution would be to screw the camera into a strong material, like wood. In this video however, I am just screwing it into the soft metal soffit. There isn't a lot of wind in the back corner where with was installed and the picture is doesn't ever shake. Also, to install wood behind the soffit would have involved removing the soft metal and replacing it with new stuff.... sounds like a lot of work.

Hi, I have a question... I would like to install some of that camera but I have a problem. The network cable arrive at the poe router but I have to install a PVR for recording camera images in the kitchen. So have I to make the camera connection directly to the PVR or can I make the registration also with the camera linked to the router? thanks
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 8 жыл бұрын
+Danny Fiorot It depends on the PVR. If the PVR has PoE capabilities (and a hard drive) the PoE switch is not required. But if the PVR is a computer/laptop, you will connect the camera to the PoE switch and connect the PVR to the PoE switch (without power). In my setup, I connect the camera to the PoE switch, then the PoE switch to a router and the router to my PVR. Let me know if this helps.

Does IP CAM android ap support it? Does the camera support wireless N? G? Does the wired connection support 1GB ? Can I plug i into 110v instead of POE? What kind of POE switch do you have? they look pricey! how much optical ZOOM does it offer? Also What material is on your deck? Composite? it looks great..
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This camera is not a motorized PTZ, but if it was, you would be able to control it from its webpage. No, I don’t have a public camera open for viewing, but if you look at the other videos on my channel, you will see the quality of the daytime and nighttime feeds. I don’t know if the IP CAM android app support this camera, but HIKVISION has its own free app and it’s very good. This camera is not wireless but HIKVISION does make wireless versions. I’m not sure what you mean by supporting 1GB. Yes, you can use a separate power supply to power the unit, which should be 1-2 amp. The PoE unit I am using is from amazon and BV-TECH 16 Port 120W 10/100Mbps. It cost about $200, but any PoE switch that supports IEEE 802.3af will work. This camera doesn’t do optical zoom. The deck is made by Trex, but it wouldn’t be my first choice in composite decking. It’s not wearing well and fading unevenly… sounds like the making of another youtube video. lol

You are right, however it looks like he may have used outdoor cable (thicker outer sheathing) which is much harder to squeeze in to the connector. I have worked with some outdoor cables that are almost impossible to get in to the connector. Some times what can happen is the outer sheathing can get pulled back and actually slip out of the connector. If the connector is handled a lot or prone to moving the solid copper pairs will inevitably snap.

@@HomeTechDIY Thanks for the reply, that was very helpful indeed. Okay, another question if I may. I have got an IP bird box camera that is also plugged into my DVR. Last year the camera was plugged directly into a POE adapter which then went into my network switch. A company called Cam Secure hosted this camera online and I was able to let the public see the birds nesting as well. After what you have told me I suspect this is not going to be possible since the camera is plugged directly into the DVR and the DVR goes into my network switch. I think I'm going to have to do revert back to how I was set up last year, correct?

+Sysvideo IP Camera Correct, this firmware has a defect with the on screen display. I didn't want it displaying anyways, so it was no big deal and therefore no need to upgrade the firmware. The firmware can be downloaded from the Hikvision website but I would need to ensure it was for the correct region. Agreed, there are certainly more steps I could have taken to make this setup 100% vandal-proof. Thanks for the idea of a metal tube to protect the wires!

newfiebort what is the con's of getting a bigger lens. For example buy a 12mm. Wouldn't the bigger the lens the better?
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
Ang ipp A 12mm lens is a zoom lens and might be a good solution for different situations. If I were to have used a 12mm lens in this setup, you would only be able to see where the cat is sitting. You would not be able to see who was walking up the stairs or any of the surroundings, just a closeup of the cat. A 12mm lens would be good if I was not able to mount a camera close to my subject/area of surveillance or if I wanted a closeup on a particular area, such as a store doorway. The night vision would also be impacted with a zoom lens because the IR lights are not zoomed in. You would loose some of the IR light because the IR lights might not be bright enough to travel the distance from the camera to your subject and your image may be darker than expected.
@angipp01
@angipp01 9 жыл бұрын
newfiebort ok I got it. The higher the mm is, it will able to see longer distances but a the object gets closer to the camera it will become blurry. Also another disadvantage it the night vision. I think I will get a 4mm (like you have) for the door enterance, and maybe a 6mm or 12mm for 2 lane driveway. Thanks.

2 questions, what's better a bullet style or dome style camera for night vision. and 2,where can you purchase hikvision cameras and be guaranteed to get a real hikvision camera instead of a knock off (as I've heard happens on amazon)?
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
I don't notice any difference in the night vision between the 2 models. I live in the country and there are no streetlights and the quality is good (not perfect). I can see foxes and rabbits walk by with no issues (within 30 feet). If you have any outside light, like streetlights, the night vision is almost perfect. I prefer the dome because it's more tamper-proof, a nicer setup (IMO) and I don't get any bugs or spiders hiding out in the corners as I do with the bullet camera. I need to sweep away spider webs from the bullet models once a week, whereas I only need to clean the domes 2-3 times per year. To answer your second question, I think what you mean by "knock off" is a Chinese Hikvision model. People seem to get upset over the Chinese models mainly because there are fewer releases of firmware updates. The firmware on the Chinese models is almost perfect and doesn't require updating... so why fix what's not broken? If there is a particular functionality that is in an newer firmware release, I would avoid the Chinese models. Everything else in the camera is exactly the same and made with outstanding quality and has an awesome picture. I know I haven't answered your question yet.... the answer is, "I don't know." If this is an issue, I would reach out to the vendor and double check. Make sure to pay with a means where you can file a dispute if you do not get what you are promised. Hope this helps!

Cams like this should be setup before it's installed. What happens if you get it all up there and it doesn't work? Set it up ahead of time then you can use your phone to aim it as you install it.

I cant figure out what wires to use to hook it up???? No video actually shows what you need to do to connect the cameras and the guide just says connect the cameras to a "power supply" so vague and didnt even come with wires.

@HomeTechDIY

Digital Ink Arts The model I am using is not WiFi. I would recommend using the wired type of this camera. You will need to supply power to the camera, so for me, it was just as easy to supply a network connection and power through PoE.

It is less fast to see, with Ip Camera, indicating mobile phone : Dynamic IP + 34567 or UID. What about you? Thank you in advance for your reply, if you have idea, for see with static IP address. Thanks for the additional information but I am not sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to view your live footage remotely or are you trying to record motion or continuous remotely. I have a static IP address from my ISP and there is only a 1-2 second delay when watching live footage remotely.

This camera is great during the day but at night the IR reflects off the plastic dome and back into the Lens causing a snowy affect. I regret buying this.

I noticed this a few times as well, but if the dome is perfectly clean (inside and out) and the sponge around the lens is pulled out a little and then tight to the dome, the reflections are decreased. I have the video for this shot, I am in the process of editing it.

what does POE stand for? Point of entry? lol or.... i dunno.
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
It stands for Power of Ethernet. The camera can be powered from electricity provided by the switch. There is no need to plug the camera into a power outlet AND Ethernet when using POE. Hope that helps. Thanks!
@MM0SDK
@MM0SDK 9 жыл бұрын
Oh no..... sorry. Power over Ethernet, presumably eliminating the need for a seperate power supply. Do PoE cameras have enough current for driving motorised direction or are they only capable of driving the camera?
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 9 жыл бұрын
If using POE for a PTZ (Motorized) Camera then Yes, POE can provide enough power. I am however not sure, off the top of my head, what the power allowances are. I believe the maximum distance is about 300 foot however.

Next to my house, about 6 feet away is a residential house where 6 people live. They are 2 retired military men (one is a husband and the other is a friend) and 2 mentally disabled women (a mother and daughter) and a foster child and a boy friend of the daughter. They have a 2 story rent house in back of their house where some of them stay. I am an elderly woman that lives alone. They are mad because I won't let them park behind my house. So now they go out of their way to cause trouble. Is there a way to install cameras that they can't damage. They are destructive people. They are bullies. They do not respect boundaries. I am concerned about my safety.

As a professional integrator I will no longer use Hikvision or Dahua cameras. Both have had many network security flaws and backdoor access. Hikvision is partially owned be the Chinese Government and back-feeding of video/ screenshots have been reported.

@nevermind_4334

They could care less about homeowners / small shops, I haven't seen any traffic either but the federal government just signed a bill banning these brands and their OEMs from being used in Gov't facilities and supposedly are trying to get a ban on the import of these products. Granted, I haven't seen anything nefarious, but considering the possibilities, I am not willing to take that chance. An employee of one of my clients purchased a couple on amazon and after installation hit his data cap from his ISP.

Problem with IP camera is that they have a connector to cable way too large. Look at the size of that hole, bit enough for mice to get in. And dripping bricks or concrete wall requires a masonry drill bit at least 20mm thick, where the hammering vibration will shake your bones to bits and dentures out of your mouths. These cameras should have had a female Ethernet (PoE) connector which is smaller and requires a narrower drilling hole, and the cables should then have a females socket at one end and male plug at the NVR/DVR end. They idiot manufacturers made a big mistake.
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the hole needs to be huge.... but new building installs use junction boxes for the CAT6 cable which are then terminate inside the box. Same with installing cameras on masonry; drill a small hole for the cable and then terminate it into a junction box, then connect the big clunky adapter.
@mickcarson8504
@mickcarson8504 4 жыл бұрын
@@HomeTechDIY Nah nah nah, no way. I don't like junction boxes, Cat6 cable goes out of the wall and into the box and then the camera connectors go into the box, nah nah nah again. It's much better it the camera stays neatly attached with no cables shown by bolting the pedestal straight against the wall, a cleaner finish and presentation than having a boxe next to it and the camera cables inserted and connected into the box, which it is also easy to be damaged/stolen or cut by vandals. The mistake of installing a fat female LAN connector at the cameras cable end needs to be changed. You don't even need a cable as everything can be plugged in the Dome camera housing. Even the bullet or turret cameras can be simply plugged inside the body of the cameras. Instead of plugging the connectors cable to cables, why not just plug the male connector into the female connector inside the bases of all cameras. Why the IP cameras must have a short bit of cable sticking out of the cameras, I'd be damned if I knew. 🤔
