Nice video! Filipino pronunciation is more American than British. Although, we still have the distinct FILIPINO pronunciation because we give more emphasis on vowel sounds rather than the consonant sounds. Anyways, whatever our "English" is, what's important is we understand each other.

As a filipino who grew up in a very english speaking environment in the Philippines then moved later to canada, i genuinely didnt think i had an accent because the people i grew up around in the Philippines, were people who spoke in taglish and were “englisheras” ( filipinos who speak more english or speak more like an american than a filipino ) lol but the more i listened to myself talk and rant in my accent or in taglish/tagalog in comparison to how i sound talking to my white canadian friends in my more “ english or American “ accent the more i hear it because the way i talk in my “english” accent to them is WAY different to my normal one when im talking to other people who understand my language lol

Most Filipino dialects use simple combinations of consonants combined with short vowels. The Pilipino alphabet is "Abakada" and initial training is to say a e i o u, ba be bi bo bu, ka ke ki ko ku, etc. The strict native Tagalog seldom use long vowels, certain consonants, and gluttural sounds (as other Asians), etc. That's why when Filipinos speak English, the emphasis on how a word is actually written is carried over from Pilipino. Btw Pilipino is the national language, based on Tagalog, blended with English Spanish Chinese and other Filipino dialects (taught across the country supposedly as a unifying language but most people stick to regional dialects and understand Pilipino).
@estelladee
@estelladee 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with this. Filipino words don't have silent letters. We pronounce words as how they are spelled. And that is why when we speak English we also pronounced every letter of that word. Like when she said the word "twitter", that's not how your normal everyday Filipino would pronounce it, she actually said it with a (sort of) American accent "twit-r", as suppose to "twit-ir". And how she pronounced the word "Manila"-- it almost sounded like a pseudo-American accent, when it's supposed to be pronounced as "Maynila".

Fillet came from the French word "filet". The "t" is silent in French. The English added another letter L and pronounce the T. When they brought the word to the US, the Americans adapted the English spelling but with French pronunciation, and that's what they thought to the Filipinos back in the day. BTW, the Philippine Military Academy or PMA lingo, "Mistah" came from the word "mister'.

Pronunciation doesn't really matter for as long as you understand each other. But the English learned in school from kinder, elementary, high school thru college is the perfect English because it is formal in grammar, diction and pronunciation. It binds all forms of English spoken by different people in their own country.

the girl has a mix of american and filipino accent, in most cases she pronounces the *"T"* like what most Americans do, on the other hand, filipinos pronounces the "T" in a much more solid way. idk if that makes sense, but its like the T of americans just flicks their tongue on the roof of their mouths and filipinos just proniunce the T solidly

The girl is not doing the Filipino accent but it's more of an American accent because she is dropping the "t" sound... The English pronunciation in the Philippines is taken from IPA which is British but the "r" and the "t" sound are given emphasis. Americans drop the "t" while British drop the "r" sound.
