Bird was so fun to watch. He never gave up and was completely confident in his ability to back his trash talk up. Bird was a great team player but had that clutch gene when time was running out and you needed a last second basket.

And what Brad Daugherty didn't include. Was he said, fly Bird, then hit him on the butt on the way by. Then nothing but net. I'll never forget that highlight. It was hysterical.

While in college Larry's team played mine. Knowing nothing about him other than he might be an all American. During warm ups we tried to guess which black player he was. Well we were wrong. He beat our Mac champion team and set a stadium scoring record with no 3 point line! Peace from Northern Michigan!

First time watching. I love your upbeat style. Keep it up. I watched almost every game Larry played. He went to the Boston garden to see if you games. If you ever need to know the inside scoop on Larry Legend, I pretty much know it. Fourth and MVP voting his rookie season. 63 rookie of the Year votes to magic 3. Then reel off three straight second place MVP finishes before his three MVP wins in a row, followed by another second place than a third and then a fourth. That's almost 10 straight years of basically being the best player on the planet. Founding member of the 50-40-90 club Would she accomplished twice but he also had a 4-year span of 50-40-90. College basketball player of the year, Rookie of the Year, MVP, coach of the year, executive of the year, nobody else comes close to those varied accomplishments. He was no question. The best at, 1)trash talking,2) toughness,3) hustle,4) best coach on the floor,5) court intelligence and awareness. Listen to the Jamal Maxwell story. Almost every head to head battle they had with anybody he came out on top. One of the greatest shooters and passers in NBA history. Has the second, highest win percentage of anybody in NBA history a half point behind magic Johnson. He was incredible

Yes, and more than that, they are forever linked like family -- for all their scraps. We are lucky to still have them with us, healthy and productive. When the day comes that we lose one of them, you can bet the other one will be there singing his friend's final praises. They are truly the best commentators on each other's talent.

Frank Leahy was coach of Utah Jazz and the coach on the video who told Bird he had no one who could guard him. Funniest coach ever. For example he drafted John Stockton. But Stockton didn't hardly play at beginning of his career. A sports journalists asked Leahy "why is he still on the team" ? Leahy replied, "he laughs at all my jokes and his father owns a bar" He often made his point with a joke or sarcasm. I think his reply to Larry Bird was just as much to the players on the bench.

Proud to say I was watching all this crap live as it happened in the 80s. I was in High School and basketball was my life and the Celtics were my team. It was a great time to be a Basketball fan and I feel fortunate to have been there! (Anybody remember the little perforated NBA trading cards with 3 small cards stuck together? I remember those very fondly.) Cheers!

I'm still hoping You do this one: (Why You Never Poke Larry Bird-A Trash Talk STORY Told by NBA Legends! by Nick Smith NBA) This one is different; It's the Hawk Players talking about One game & it's Not the 60 point game. It's about Wilkins & Larry had a 4th Quarter Shoot Out & Larry was playing Hurt. (also it was written that Larry also was played this game with Bronchial Pneumonia, They didn't know this until after the game) Also it's not a whole lot of Trash talking except just One Part & That set Larry off. It's a good story Hope You check it out.

For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was and never had the chance to see him play this comment is for you. Remember in this comment I am just highlighting Larry's NBA accomplishments. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about it, what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season

Hi Justin I love your channel, my name is Mike and I am an Idiot because I have every Sports Illustrated issue since I was kid in 1963 till 1984. A lot of SI magazines. I did trade the issue with Larry on the cover with the 3 cheerleaders doing the "shhhhhhh thing". i traded it for "inside info" on newly Repoed. properties in Oakland county in Michigan in 1986. Sure i made lots of money flipping Repoed houses. I would love to have that SI issue back tho.

After the merger of the ABA and NBA basketball got much better and then the 80s hit through to 2000 best years of basketball. The rule changes especially on defense. What is considered a foul and not a foul among other reasons it’s not the same game today. NBA played in its present form, is too much like the game of HORSE 🐎
