Just a glimpse into a portion of the process, with this footage of Hildene's Dene Farm Animal Barn Manager Kimberley Pinsonneault. Kim took a visit from veteran sheep shearer Fred DePaul, of Plymouth, Vermont on April 8, 2020. We're looking forward to bringing you the footage of Fred's visit in the near future - for now, here's just a quick peek of Kim's tasks that day! One ram, one wether, and nine ewes were expertly shorn and returned to pasture, much cooler, thanks to Fred's 57 years of shearing experience. You'll see Kim carrying an enormous pile of wool (one singular fleece shorn to remain intact, per animal), hurling the fleece onto the skirting table (a true artform - and quite a workout), skirting (removing the "junk" fleece - vegetable matter, stained and loose bits), folding it into itself and rolling it into a bundle, to bag, for processing at a later date. Our wonderful sheep's wool is destined to be spun into Hildene Farm yarns!
