Hildesheim, one of the oldest cities in Northern Germany, became the seat of the Bishopric of Hildesheim in 815 and may have been founded when the bishop moved from Elze to the Innerste ford, which was an important market on the Hellweg trade route. The settlement around the cathedral very quickly developed into a town and was awarded market rights by King Otto III in 983.

Mine also. My grandmother, although born in New Zealand was sent, at ages 12 from New Zealand to school here in Hildesheim for 4 years between 1888 and 1892. As a young child I was fascinated by the stories she told us about her time there. Her mother, born not far from Hildesheim in Liebenberg had also attended the same school. I visited Hildesheim about 20 years ago and was lucky enough to be shown through the old school - The Marienschule. 🙂

I agree about the music, but i suspect the whole video is auto-generated by AI. Also, it is not Hilde "Sheim" as the AI narrator says. It is Hildes "Heim". 🙂
