Remember on snow or ice you should get your wheels spinning as fast as possible and if you start to slide turn your wheels sharply and hold them there while you lock up your brakes.

9:19 good driving from the bus. Takes a lot to get a bus back moving on a snowy and icy hill!

The management shouldn't have put the driver in that position in the first place. And if it goes wrong-Blame the Driver, the management arent the ones standing in the dock.

In these dangerous conditions buses should be required by law to use snow chains or similar restraining devices like they used to in the old days.

The reason they have to is no manager will take the decison to stop the service, because the company will loose money, and if it goes tits up, Nothing to do with me Guv' the Drivers fault.

Yeah a scrambler, two stroke engine 👌, never rode one on road with knobbly tyres in snow but I reckon it's got really good grip. It's more about throttle control when driving on ice, driving a car, it's ideal to keep your hand on the handbrake and use throttle to regain control when needed 👍

Here in Finland local farmers earn some extra from council by keeping roads and streets clean during winter with their tractors. When snow starts coming tractors are out almost instantly. You should do that in U.K. too.

+Dog Rogers The farmers in the UK are heavily subsidised already. Some from the UK and some from the EU. www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=farmer%20subsidies%20uk I know what you're saying though. Still +suomenpresidentti has a good point and farmers should be given a bit extra to clear the smaller roads perhaps, the ones where the gritters don't get to.

UK drivers seem very polite, careful and tame compared to drivers in the US. Here, you see cars spinning around, smashing into each other, flipping over, exploding, running over pedestrians, crashing into houses, careening over cliffs Add snow and ice to the mix, and it gets even worse!!

@fangorn4011 жыл бұрын
I think the perception of 'winter' tyres is they are only for when it snows, which isn't the case. Winter tyres provide better grip when it's wet or icey as well. In Switzerland and some areas of Germany where it's the law to switch tyres in the winter they have far fewer winter related accidents and rear wheel drive cars like Audi's and BMW's don't struggle so much on hills. I've been switching to winter tyres every winter for over 20 years in the UK and feel i'm safer on the road as a result.

Yes, the plows should have been out, etc., but they weren't, and these people shine for their courtesy and helpfulness to others. The best car on snow was the old Skoda Estelle I had in the early 90s. Rear engine/rear drive plus it was Czech, and made for Czech winters, which are far worse than ours. Many a time I remember sailing past my neighbours with their modern cars slipping and sliding everywhere. It always started as well. Unlike some of my neighbours' cars.

It always annoys me when people who aren't from the UK are like "duh, get winter tires" Yeah, no. It snows for like a day here (except scotland) and chances are that snow won't hang around long enough for it to become an issue. And tires are expensive! I have £3.36 in my current account. I am not about to go out and buy 4 brand new snow tires for a day that might not come.
@TRPGpilot9 жыл бұрын
duh! get winter tires! Cant afford them or dont want to ? then stay off the roads when it snows!
@dannimikila9 жыл бұрын
Also, most 'winter tires' are illegal here in the uk - they ruin our crusty crappy road surfaces and our government is too cheap to give local councils the money they need to repair them every year.
@TRPGpilot9 жыл бұрын
No .winter tires are not illegal in the UK. They have been in use for years and are in fact softer than summer tires and will not "ruin" the roads. Where have you got that crap from anyway?

Hi, great video, just shows that people here in the UK still haven't caught on that they should get "Winter Tyres" ( have the Snowflake & Mountain symbol on the side of the tyre ) between the end of October and early April, these are for any weather conditions snow,slush,rain,ice,dry etc when the temps go below +7oC. For a perfect display of what Winter Tyres can do check out "Winter Vs Summer Tyres - On a ski slope" here on KZfaq , great vid once again , cheers.

that snow is so fresh, that it turns into slush and not ice. thats why cars can keep going while slipping their wheels. the more they push the gas, the more they find clear tarmac beneath and can keep going. i guess it was a much different story the next day when the road got covered with a sheet of ice. probably impossible without chains
@21jg13010 жыл бұрын
Very true, 2nd or 3rd and keep the revs around 1500rpm, also diesel front wheel drive and a set of proper Winter Tyres and they'd have no problems at all , I drive a Vauxhal Astra 1.7dti and use Vredstein Snowtrac3 tyres beween October - April...no problems at all, other good makes are "Continetal TS800" and Nokian winter tyres , Dunlop do a decent set also.

@MrComputerSaint8 жыл бұрын
+Zoe Davids you're correct, we don't get much snow. But when we do get a little flurry of snow most say "oooooohhhh noooooo lets all hide away, not go to work and shut everything down" It's quite annoying of the British. It's not law to have snow / winter tires in the UK either, some people do opt for them out of common sense.

Studded tyres are illegal for road use in the UK. Non studded winter tyres are legal and easy to find here. We can get 3 inches of snow in a couple of hours (Much more on higher ground) but then it can melt away within a day! Britain has strange weather in winter!

It says something about a driver when absolutely no attempt has been made to clear snow off a back window. Also the best way up is 3rd gear, low revs and traction, not 1st and wheelspin.

Understandable. They are required by law in most Canadian provinces. Road service and emergency vehicles get fitted with retractable chain spinners under their drive wheels or get tire chains
