Cheers man! Space was the biggest reason, getting both the DC-DC charger and Smartpass box close enough together in the engine bay was going to be tricky due to the size of the gear. There's heaps of space up behind the glovebox, which is where they sit. Biggest downside to in the cab is heat - though there's nothing close to them. Hope this helps!

Heya! I wanted an auto - but couldn’t find an SR5 in blue at the time. Regret not waiting though - not really a fan of the manual. The SR5 comes with carpet and a tiny amount of sound deadening - the TD/SR are vinyl right on top of the metal. It’s still a “commercial” vehicle though - so is way louder than say a Prado

Cheers man! Got the rims from Cooper Tyres and the tyres from Beaurepaires (had them on our old Prado, moved them to the Hilux)

Hey Tom - Coopers Tyres sell ROH rims, grabbed ours from them. Lift kit was done by Kazien Works here in Wellington. Hope that helps!

Hey mate - it did the job, I was never super stoked with how it rode, was super harsh in the rear. It did drive nicer on the road in terms of body roll. I had 150kg constants in the back - was way too much, was only comfyish when FULLY loaded up, was horrible as a daily (even with 2nd battery, tent, tent mount on all the time) - if I were to do it again I wouldn’t bother with a constant weight spring in the back. Front wasn’t too bad - bit of bump steer but nothing crazy for a lifted truck with crap loads of weight over the front axle Offroad it worked fine, again, could be harsh when not fully loaded up Not going EFS on the Fortuner, want to try find something more comfortable. I did have EFS in my old Surf, don’t recall it being too bad, but was a long time ago Hope that helps!

@@OverlandNZTV Thats super interesting and very helpful. the supplier is recommending 150kg constants based on light overlanding loads only (no roof tent)... He knows I am after an improved road ride as well as off road. But is sounds like from your experience, apart from improved clearance, the stock set up would be better. Kinda aiming for Ford Ranger road comfort on road. Can you recall which shocks you went with: Elite, XTR, X treme? Not sure which way to go with this... Suppliers need to sell... Often, reviews have an element of placebo, where the improvements are minimal but owners somehow want to believe their spend is a big improvement... I am super interested to know what direction you go with your Fortuner..

I went with 150kg constants for that very reason - everyone said I needed it. Never felt that I actually did - wish I'd tried different springs/put the stock ones back in to confirm my suspicions though. Without going down the BP51/similar route, not sure there's much that gets a Hilux close to a Ranger from what I've seen (I hope I'm wrong though...) - Hiluxs just ride harder. I had the Elite shocks both front and rear. 100% - when I first got it done I thought it was awesome, but it wore off after a few months - added more weight to try get it to ride better but never really did. I'm going to try Dobinsons at this stage - and try use lighter springs in the rear than people tend to recommend. No idea if it'll work, but I'm keen to try

@@OverlandNZTV You make a lot of sense. Toyota have likely worked hard at setting the Hilux optimally. Most lift kits probably have minimal improvement in ride day to day. Possibly BP51 might really shine on corrugations. They have the piggy back system to keep oil cooler. But that is only Outback driving really. I live on gravel road and really can't see BP51's truly working as designed unless the whole truck is fairly heavy from add ons. I was thinking about looking into Fox, but assumed it likely is more expensive than BP51's. I really would appreciate the lift clearance for trails, but don't like the idea of the spend for a full kit and to not get a comfort improvement. However, I will look into the Dobinsons. They seem to be equally as popular as the EFS.

Hey man - hard to put an exact price on what we ended up with as some of the gear and install was sponsored and we went a tad overboard with capacity and the charging system. I had priced up a basic install though for a CTEK DCDC charger and 120AH deep cycle battery which came in around $1000 if I installed myself. If you go all out as we did, you'd be looking at around $1600-$2000 in parts plus labour if you got a shop to do it. Probably took us 8 hours to install, working pretty slowly. Hope this helps!

I have indeed - can't remember if they were installed in this video or not, my gut says I hadn't done them yet, but I added some not long after. They sat nicely tucked up in the bumper, so were never hugely visible which I liked. Have done an updated video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iKiYhb2V17K-iWw.html - changed recovery point type when we fitted the bullbar, though being red, they stick out a lot

This is good to know as I was under the impression that you had to have a bull bar for recovery points to be fitted. Don’t suppose you remember who made the recovery points? Cheers for all the vids
