Himmler's castle at Wewelsburg part one of two

Wewelsburg castle, a largely Renaissance structure, was chosen by Heinrich Himmler in 1934 to be the centre of the SS world.
The choice was possibly inspired by the Westphalian legend of the "Battle at the birch tree" in which a "huge army from the East" is beaten decisively by the "West". In his fantasy world, Wewelsburg was possibly the bastion of the conflict between Asia and Europe.
The castle was need for the SS-race-office and Himmler liked its triangular shape. Restoration in Nazi style was needed. Initially this was done by volunteers, later concentration camp inmates took care of the work.
Courses were organised for SS officers including highly useful subjects such as mythology. It is also rumoured that the castle was linked to the holy grail in the Nazi mind set.
Meetings of SS Gruppenführer were planned but only was is documented, that of 12 to 15 June 1941 when presumably the forthcoming campaign in the USSR was discussed.
Allegedly the death's head rings of killed SS officers were to be kept here in what suggests some symbollic link between the dead 'heros' and the living. Around 11,500 rings found their way to Wewelsburg but have since disappeared.
The full lunacy of Himmler's plans included making it the "center of the new world" after the "final victory". Models of these plans can be seen today in the underground museum. The castle was to be surrounded by an 18 m wall and 18 towers built - no doubt with some symbollic value to this number. Nearby an SS village was to be built. Himmler was realistic though on the time scale and did not expect it finished until the late 1960s.
The north tower is the centre of the SS myth. On the lower part there is a crypt where some kind of odd ceremony may have taken place. Higher up is the Obergruppenführersaal for the annual meetings of the SS hierarchy. It is this tower which was to be the very centre of the world.
My channel on you tube : / alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced over 1,700 original films. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

I visited this castle in the early nighties. I found it very emotional and it was my first realisation that ww2 was real. I have been interested in ww2 but it wasnt until this visit that it became real to me. May sound strange but id only seen films, books and listened to stories from my parents.

Top Nazi's never performed occult rituals at that castle and probably never did anything anywhere else either. This castle was rebuilt in the late 50's and it is from these reconstructions that TV shows try to claim that Himmler led a secret order here, but this is just mythology that grew up after the war.

Maybe not at the castle, but they definitely were occultists at the time.

@@tattletailtony6911 Hitler had no time for Himmler’s neo pagan beliefs. But it is true Himmler plannned for Wewelsburg to serve as an eventual spiritual centre for the new world they were forging.

The main tower of the triangle, was converted in such a way, which possessed it certain geometrical figures of the Geomantie. Search times after. Geomantie and Wevelsburg The Wevelsburg should be developed to an enormous plant. More largely than the Kyffhäuser castle of the Stauffer emperor Friedrich Barbarossa in the Harz mountains in Central Germany

I understand that perfectly - it is a normal human reaction. That is possibly why neither Hitler not Stalin wished to get too close to it either.

The Nazi contribution to VW was to get people to pay for it and then not give it to them, if anything the success of VW is due to the use the British occupation authorities put it to and the rebuilding of the plant. I suppose one could at a push thank the Nazis for starting WW2 although I think VW would have been a success without it!

As for the motoways, the first motorway was completed in 1932 around either Dusseldorf or Cologne - I cannot remember which. But it was not a German invention as the first motorways appeared in Italy ten years earlier. Fanta came about because of the war as did weapons so indirectly that may be thanks to the Nazis - although similar products to Fanta existed a long time previously e.g. Coca Cola.

Hitler had many schemes, most unrealistic. Apparently he wanted to build a motorway to the Crimea. I think he would have been better off building them at home first - the network that exists today was nowhere near this dense under the Nazis.

Thanks for the constructive criticism. Since doing this I have bought a different camera with a stabiliser as you can see in more recent videos! If I ever get Adobe Premiere then I may try and stabilise some of my more popular videos.

This should have been razed to the ground and not put up as a museum! These Germans are still proud of it!The whole place is steeped in suffering and horror, but they act as if this must be preserved for future generations. No sane person would set foot here!Beanbags and exhibition where thousands died innocently in excruciating suffering. The place full of evil and dark forces.Do they not feel that the memory of something should not be preserved in this way? Do they not feel that this should not have been preserved at all?I always find it disgusting and insane that the clothes and shoes of the dead Jewish prisoners were put in a display case! This endless human stupidity is madness! And after than did you eat a chips with pig meat ? What a style! Congratulation for your taste!
