I believe alternating between cool party time and angry chaos is supposed to represent what the military tells you war is and what war is actually like. Like "you'll be a hero and you get cool guns!" vs "we got a man down! where did the shot come from! medic!"

I've really enjoyed your reactions. You clearly know how to listen to music. It is very special to see how well you interpret the meaning of the song from a single listening and translate that to your own words. Instead of focusing on the minor details of the song, you're able to see the big picture, such as the message and the feeling, and how those are reflected and combined in the music itself. And to me, that's the right way to listen to music.

When this came out it was obvious what it was about, but it is certainly oblique enough that without the context it isn't clear. This was a protest song about the Iraq War, that is why we are blowing up the desert. It was a war that we sent a small percentage of the population to fight while the rest of us stayed home and were told if we didn't shop the terrorists would win. (And, of course, the terrorists weren't actually from Iraq).

The fact that this song is so deep, yet so many people don’t understand what they are singing about pisses me off. If u thought it means “Bring Your Own Beer” u are lost. It is “Bring Your Own Bombs”. Meaning everyone who came to the “oil party” in the Middle East. Hence “why don’t Presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?”. Lost on so many.

In this context, B.Y.O.B. is Bring Your Own Bombs: "... Dancing in the desert, Blowing up the sunshine." It's was an anti-Iraq_war song, but more generally anti-war song.

I understand how, to the inexperienced ear, that first scream might sound demonic, but once you put the lyrics into context (why do they always send the poor?), to me it is an incredibly well done representation of pain. More specifically, the desperate shriek of a mother who just learned of her children dying at war

My first time watching your reaction and its ok but I suggest to do a bit of research either before or after a song so you guys can have a better understanding of the lyric, but overall you guys did a good job capturing the main message. I still remember when this song came out back in mid 2000's when US went to war with Iraq. I would say system of a down is anti-war they sent so many messages they were against it. BYOB many people gave it different meaning like: Build your own bombs // Bring your own bombs // Bring your own bottles // Be your own boss // and some other, I cant remember but the "real" meaning is Bring Your Own Booze. Good video guys...

The saddest thing about that band for me is that they broke up way to early they were an awesome band with a great sound for me and like the second last great rock band ever. For me it was them and Disturbed from this era right behind Led Zeppelin of course

BYOB stands for Bring Your Own Bomb....anti war, anti government song, the "party" is the bombings, "why dont presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?" Politicians giving the impression that war and bombings are fine, like a party, the poor pay for it with thier lives...dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine = Nuke testing

Their most sucessuful song probably you guys already know and heard this one "Chop suey" BUT their songs have a lot of menaing than we can think, are always against the goverment, have this in mind: they are armenians and in Armenia had the "Armenian Genocide" that the midia used to NOT talk about this war and.. their songs always have this side more of a Goverment and war meaning, also they spit some FACTS in a lot of songs.. others u have no idea what they are talking about LMAO also they dont reveal what the lyircs are about so, its up to us to discover... plz do more their songs
