Loretta was a badass with a sweet smile on her face. She sang the truth of her life & was banned by country radio stations 8 or 10 times because of it. Listen to all of it. Then find her gospel album. Fantastic.

Growing up my mom drove us all crazy with Loretta Lynn and country music but as I got older I never gave it up because every song told a story with Loretta Lynn and they were always amazing whether sad, funny or just sassy. Country today not my thing because most are missing great vocals, the stories and the heart and soul of true country music.

This is a true life story. An Loretta wrote most of her songs. She is singing from the heart because this is her life an all she sang about threw the yrs. was written from stories in her life. Listen to songs like: Fist City, an The day I got the Pill, an Dont come home a drinking with loving on your mind. An she had some great songs as a duet partner with Conway Twittey that are awesome I think you'll like. An Loretta had songs in the early days that the radio wouldn't play but it didn't deter her she sang them anyway an everyone loved them. That's why along with her great voice that she became country music's Queen of country music. A legend!

She was married at 13 and a grandmother at 26. Coal miner’s Daughter was a movie about her life. Sissy Spacik won an Oscar fir playing Loretta. She even sang all the songs herself. Sounded just like Loretta.

My mom cannot listen to this song without bursting into tears. She was a West Virginia coal Miner's daughter and she loved her dad my pawpaw very much. Very humble Christian man who had a lot of love in his heart it didn't matter the color of your skin. If you go to the Beckley West Virginia coal mine exhibition you'll see black men and white men elbow to elbow they all went into the mines together worked hand in hand and would joke they would all come out black lol. Humble humble hard-working people but they were happy and loved life.

I lost my uncle this year and about to lose another one. My uncle from West Virginia would take me up on those mountains on a bulldozer and I would scream my head off he would scare me so much. He was a tough guy but a gentleman. I had a lot of racism in my heart when I was younger brought on by my upbringing from a tough stepfather. My uncle said something to me that resounded in my heart as a little boy and he helped me out of that. These were good good people.

"Borned," "warsh," rhyming "hard" with "tired." This was country with no pretenses. I've personally always preferred the more western-oriented styles of the older "country" music, but this gal made there be no doubt why the genre was named the way it was. Keeping it real, 1960s (1970, technically) hillbilly style. Her father died young, like so many other miners. Her baby sister, nearly 20 years her junior, is also a singer, but known for a much less raw, more refined pop style.

Yes, that's the Scots-Irish influence on upcountry Southerners, especially in the Southern Appalachians. My wife and I are both the first generation born out of the mountains. Our parents were genuine hillbillies. Anyway, I did some research and read a few letters from the 1750s written in America by Scots-Irish immigrants, and mailed to their family still in Ulster. "You'ns come and bring the young'ns with you'ns." That was within one of the letters. LOL We drop the g in fishing, hunting, etc., just as they did. "You'ns" is a contraction of "you ones".

I am two coal miners' great-grandaughter. Robert Moore and Robert Rose, Keystone, West Virginia. Only Loretta could get tired and hard to rhyme. My grandmother comes a few counties away from where she was born, and they talked the same accent. Van Lear coal mine does sit at the bottom of Butcher Holler, outside of Paintsville in Johnson County. My favorite line from the movie Coal Miner's Daughter was "woman, if you want to keep that arm, you better get it off my husband".

She was one of those artists whose impact transcended the genre of music she performed. Fun fact: she has had more songs banned from the radio than all male country singers combined. She was honest, spicy, independent, and she empowered women. Unusual for both her times and her chosen music genre.

She is the Queen in my opinion. A lot of folks say Dolly is but Loretta paved the way for her . Patsy Cline took Loretta under her wing. She was her mentor and very close friend. Love Loretta sooooooo much. She writes her own songs and they are autobiographical. Here's my list: Fist City The Pill You Ain't Woman Enough (to take my man) You're Lookin at Country Just a few to start with. I am 65 and have loved her my whole life. Her husband was a notorious womanizer. Her life story is told in the movie Coal Miners Daughter. Great movie.

She had a great voice. What was interesting in the late 80's/early 90' many of the then popular Club groups had some Pop, and Country artists sing their songs. Example was 1991's "Justified and ancient" with Country singer Tammy Wynette. Kon Kan's " I beg your pardon" sampled the country/pop song "Rose Garden" The Pet Shop boys had two singers sing two of there club songs too, Dusty Springfield in " What have I done to deserve this" and Liza Minelli in : Losing my mind: I still have all those 12 inch dance singles.

Poor people did work hard back then just to survive. No running water, no electricity, no indoor bathrooms, bath water had to be heated on top of the wood cook stove, homes were heated by wood or coal stoves, in the very cold weather, someone had to get up every few hours to add more coal or wood, the ashes had to go out, soap was made by hand, the mothers often toiled in gardens the size of truck patches all day and canned food for the winter. My two grandmothers in southern Illinois had electricity during my youth, but no running water, water had to be hauled from a well to the house. Imagine having to cook everything on the stove, no microwaves, no electricity means no freezers, etc. Those were some tough old folks back then!
