When I was a teenager in 1977, I worked at a concert and basketball venue in Lexington Kentucky. Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty came and did a concert there. I believe the entire population of Butcher Holler, Kentucky, her hometown, was in the audience that night. After the concert, she and Conway sat on the stage at a table and signed autographs and took pictures for over 2 hours. She was the most gracious person who ever sang on that stage.

She became the queen of country music. That's all.

I sometimes think about where I would be if he had stayed. My father was a farmer and we grew nearly everything we ate. Her brother served in Vietnam and retired from the Air Force after 23 years. My childhood was only one step removed from this song.

My grandmother was born in Oklahoma's Indian territory in 1902. She attended a 1 room school (only up to 8th grade... unless the child was exceptional) near a creek. After school, she walked to the train station and sold tickets. They washed clothes in that creek. My grandfather was a drafted WWI soldier who fought in the trenches at Argonne Forest. He was educated, but they made him a private. He nearly died there. After the war, he went to Oklahoma and got an engineering degree and worked on WPA projects. That's how they met ... at the train station!!! People were much stronger and determined back then. They didn't complain. They didn't expect everything to be handed to them. They appreciated family and relied on each other. I wish i could have met my grandfather, but he died fairly young as a result of his time in france in the winter.

Damn every time I here this song, it brings tears to my eyes. I was raised by a aunt and uncle were were poor in objects, but rich with love and that's all we needed.

Loretta Lynn came from very humble beginnings, married as a young teenager, had 4 children by 17, and then had twins just as her music career started taking off. Se wrote most of her own material, said what she thought if you liked it or not, had a very hard love story with her only boyfriend/husband (yes, he would get drunk and hit her...and she would hit him back twice!), her husband literally had to make her go on stage in the beginning, she was so scared (she would get 4-day migraines, she was so stressed), although he cheated and could be abusive, he believed in her more than anyone else and pushed her to be the best she could be. She died living her motto: Never Quit, Never Retire. She was forced by health problems to stop touring, but she continued writing and recording songs. She was in the middle of a 5 album deal when she died, recently javing released yet another award winning album. She went from nothing to a net worth of $65Million...never forgetting where she came from, calling her fans "friends" because they afforded her to give her children a better life than she had, opening her ranch and campground to the public so they would have a place to stay when they visited, and thanking God for all her Blessings. She died peacefully in her sleep with over 3,000 songs she wrote but hadn't recorded yet.

My dad was a single father who raised us working for $1.75 an hour driving a forklift. We never had a clue we were poor until I was an adult. He had the "bills box" which was a shoe box under his bed, and he would tell us "Go play, I have to do the bills now.". We didn't even know what it was, but we knew it was important. Many lessons learned not to be greedy or always wanting things, I've never let money rule me. Because my dad. So when she says "Daddy always managed to get the money somehow", I can relate to that.

My Daddy grew up in the country, one of 11 kids farming. Later he was a Firefighter, along with a mechanic and he could fix anything. Sweetest Daddy a girl could ever ask for. He raised me with country music and I later played it on FM Country Radio. He taped every one of my shows. I miss him terribly. 3/30/2019.

This song tells more than just a story. The thing about being a coal miner *before* unionization and governmental regulation was that most mines paid their employees in "script", not Dollars. Back in those days, the food and variety stores in coal mining towns were usually owned and operated by the local coal mines just like the available housing market was owned and operated by those same coal mines. When populations are "poor" in the USA, there's a reason behind it and it's usually $$$$$$$$$ and poor governmental regulations that allows the rich to profit while workers get the short end of the stick. History is no mystery. As it was then and *remains today* situations like this are the fault of a local government that refuses to support the Common Good for All average citizens in the USA.

Both my parents were almost this poor growing up (in Michigan)....mom's fam from Detroit, dad's fam from a farm in the north. I remember hearing about their hard times, and both sets of my grandparents' even worse times, from their respective European countries. Now here I am, typing my thoughts to you in my own warm house on this piece of technology. I take nothing I have, or am, for granted, and am so thankful I had good parents who instilled traditional values in me and my siblings.❤ I'm grateful for the better life we have now, and I wish the same for the younger generations in our family. The women also knitted along with housework,sewing and caring for children. Most families had multiple children,I was 4-8 were commonplace. It was a hard life but you did what you had to and society was based on kids being educated and safe . As much as possible

I was proud to be a coal miner for 20 years. It was hard and dangerous work but it was like a fraternity of brothers and we loved it. We all knew the work would take a toll on us years after leaving the mines but we did it anyway. Coal Miner's Daughter tells the hard but happy story. Loretta didn’t just break barriers in country music, she blew them the f*** up! From women’s rights, to hugging Charlie Pride at the awards show when she was told not to stand next to him because it wouldn’t look good for a white woman to be seen with a black man. When he won that award she whispered in his ear, “Tell them to kiss your black ass, honey” She was a legend, and her greatest achievements might’ve been outside of the 100’s of hit songs she wrote. You should listen to Van Lear Rose album that was produced by Jack White. Also, find videos of him talking about her. He loved her like his own mother
