Love the eagles I'm only 23. But thank God my parents grew up in the 70s and that's all the music I heard but there's two songs that always stood out to me apart from hotel. But I'm a Glenn Frey(fry) fan RIP. But the two songs are lyin eyes and peaceful easy feeling that's classic early eagles. THE SONG isn't about a hotel it's about the bad things fame can give if you go to California to chase your dreams. Drugs. And excess and failure and being stuck depressed and broke. Nothing about a hotel it's a metaphor. About LA is the beast that you can't kill

DH& I took great care of our kid's "Rock and Roll education". I was proud ( I did not say this to my son) when my granddaughter got in trouble for listening to music in class. The teacher asked her what was so important that she just HAD to listen to during class. She demanded that my granddaughter play the song for the whole class. Out came Meat Loaf singing "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Whoops, just a little inappropriate for the classroom - I think she was 11. I was proud nonetheless.

“It's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about,” Henley said in a 2002 interview with "60 Minutes." In 2005, Henley further explained the meaning of the song to Rolling Stone magazine, which placed "Hotel California" at no. 1.

wow why always inserting the word "America" in it? (it's GOOD for biz, ...American Pie, American Horror STORY< American Psycho, American WHATEVER.. just to attract attention...BUT...AS IF...the rest of the world DIDN HAVE THE SAME UNDERBELLY?...excesses and WORSE CRIME & CORRUPTION!!?? in fact the drugs now come into the USA from Mexico & China..HA! ...my 1st problem is...America is the continent.. with more than 30 countries in it...So i know you mean the USA..But..it's HUMAN NATURE..not "America" (oh ok, all 30+ countries!??) so...it's the BIZ, ambition, and DRUG USE which they fell for, as most rockers on that era. before and after!...and as ppl all over the world!

Henley also said in a different interview, along with Glen Frye that the inspiration for the lyric was an old TV show in the 60s' called "Twilight Zone". They wanted to give the song a mystical otherworldly feel. The lyric is ambiguous enough that it allows the listener to read whatever they want into it. Great song writing! Also, the part where it says; "...they stabbed it with their Steely knives but they just can't kill the beast." is a nod to a band that Henley and Frye were good friends with, "Steely Dan".

This is an outstanding and iconic song, right up there with Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway To Heaven. I remember hearing it when it first came out and being stunned by its depth, it is all that anybody was talking about for weeks. Joe Walsh is one of my favorite guitar players and I was so happy when he joined the Eagles band. He really tears it up on this performance along with the entire rest of the band.

Regarding album sales in the United States, this Eagles' collection of favorites and timeless classics remains No. 1. Spanning the Eagles' first four studio albums, it was the first to receive platinum status by the RIAA. The record also spent more than 230 weeks on the Billboard 200. Nope, the Capitol Center was in Landover, Maryland, about 20 minutes from where I live; at least, it was 22 years ago. Gone now.

Most Eagles videos are blocked but for some reason this one and one other live video I have seen have not been blocked. Capitol Center is in Maryland. I have read that the Hotel California is a metaphor for the corporate music machine where they wine you and dine you and then grind every bit of your soul out of you and still want more, they will even ply you with alcohol or drugs to get what they want from you. You are signed to a contract so you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave (they own you). There are many people trying to decide what the words of this song mean but the writers have never really said. It is called a double necked guitar. Sometimes a six string and a 12 string sometimes a differently tuned guitar.
