This is how music was made when I was a teenager...no auto tune, no sampling...just talented musicians rocking their asses off.

Holy fuck, give it up already you fucking boomers. If talent = good music than why does Queen and Tool have such horrible music?... Music is random sounds put together, anything can be music if you put the sounds into a melody. Also, just because there was no auto tune or sampling doesn't mean they didn't need sound engineers to make it sound decent. Bands still needed to use correction tools in the studio back in the day otherwise it would all just sound like static. That is all autotune is, is a correction tool.

There's a reason why Iron Maiden have been going for nearly 50 years. That is because they are one of the pioneers of metal. They have influenced so many bands (including Metallica) that you probably couldn't count them. They are still making incredible music to this day and to watch them live is an experience not to be missed. Welcome to your Maiden journey my friend. Up the Irons!

Maiden are the ultimate musical story tellers. I often think they sound like modern heavy metal versions of old medieval folk songs. They are true masters! Their live shows are always top notch. The old Maiden had 2 guitar players. Adrian Smith left the band in 1990 and was replaced by Janick Gers. When Bruce left 1994 Maiden kinda hit the wall with a new singer. I couldn’t get into it, I thought Maiden was dead. BUT….in 1999 Dickinson and Smith both came back. Janick Gers also remained, and they’ve been rocking with 3 guitarists ever since. Their sound is much more progressive now than ever before. But there’s still plenty of that classic Maiden sound peppered throughout. I love Maiden now just as much as I ever did since first hearing them back in the early 80’s. To me…they’ve only gotten better with age.

Such a great song! Bruce is singing about a man that’s locked up, waiting to be executed at 5:00. It is a peek inside the mind of a man about to die, questioning life, god, the afterlife, and even his sanity itself. You should check out “The Number of The Beast” as well as “The Trooper”. Fun fact about Iron Maiden, they have their own 747 for tours and Bruce Dickinson (lead vocalist) is the pilot for the jet. Talented group of fellows

You need to do the live version from ‘82 at Hammersmith. Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by Bassist Steve Harris. For their first two albums they had a different lead singer Paul Di’Anno. For their third album “Number of the Beast”, of which this song is from, they replaced lead singer with Bruce Dickinson. This album was released in 1982 and the Trooper is from their fourth record “Piece of Mind”. Iron Maiden is one of the very few bands with 3 guitar players, this gives some amazing harmonies. Some suggestions: Aces High Rime of the Ancient Mariner 2 Minutes to Midnight Alexander the Great Wasted Years Fear of the Dark (live in Argentina)

I've been listening to Maiden since this album came out in 82 and not that you get complacent with the songs but you hear them so much that you can sometimes forget how absolutely special they are. Seeing your reaction brings it all back into focus how powerful this band was and still is. Not just the vocals or the different instruments, which of course are next level, but the subject matter they sing about in their songs in a very intelligent manner. Iron Maiden if nothing else makes you think and feel things that you might not normally be exposed to. They expand your horizons.

Yes this song is from the 80s, as the lead singer Bruce Dickinson, joined the band in 82 (I believe). They have their own Jet and their lead singer (Bruce) is the pilot. The band was originally formed by Steve Harris, the bass player and he writes their songs. The drummer and all guitarists are all stellar (in addition to Steve and Bruce). They are so in synch with each other and you can tell they LOVE their job! They give 110% to their audience 100% of the time. There is much to say and learn about this band but the most important thing I can say is that to see them live is a MUST! They are among the VERY BEST in live performances. I have been to at least 100+ concerts and Iron Maiden is in my top 5 favorite. (In good company with The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Aerosmith and Motley Crue.) Bruce's voice was still as A-MA-ZING in 2016 as it was in the 80's. The high notes? He can still hit 'em and hold 'em. It is a true travesty that they are somehow STILL NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! I enjoyed watching your face as you realized how amazing this song is. I feel so proud - like a mama watching her little one take his first steps! Don't get me wrong, I like R & B and some hip hop and rap but I'm mostly about classic rock and metal and I think now that you have had a taste, you will be hungry for more! Don't know what all you have reacted to as I am a relatively new subscriber but you should check out Cemetary Gates by Pantera and Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne and Victim of Changes by Judas Priest. Those are some of my very faves. Check out the live version of this song and of the 3 I suggested above. I'm a 58 yr old female by the way, (if you are trying to figure the range of your fan base). Well, rock on, and be prepared to be enlightened and amazed on your journey. If you REALLY wanna step out of your comfort zone and hear one of the most beautiful singing voices in the world, discover Barbra Streisand. (All in Love is Fair; Prisoner; My Heart Belongs to Me; Comin in and out of your life; Woman in the Moon; Woman in Love; Tell Him; Evergreen; The Way We Were - just a few of my faves to get u started)

Soooo sleepin' on Maiden!!! True Giants of Heavy Metal. To say that most newer metal bands have had some level of influence from Maiden is no exaggeration. And to think they're still going strong today is just incredible. Their talent and instantly recognizable sound is timeless, Ghost was just nominated for best metal performance of last year for doing a cover of Maiden's song Phantom of the Opera which came out in 1980! For a band formed in 1975 with seventeen studio albums and numerous other productions, you can imagine how deep this rabbit hole goes. So many bangers but I'd suggest Revelations, Fear of the Dark, and Dance of the Dead just as a few to get started. Also listening to the studio version of the track when hearing it the first time really lets you focus on the music but do yourself a favor and check out the live performances as well bc anyone that knows, knows the live shows are what truly makes Maiden legendary. Love the content, enjoy the journey. Up the Irons!!!

This one has one of my favorite types of song structures one can find in metal; it’s where the first half takes its time a bit, a little slow, and then around that halfway mark it decides we’re going to rock and usually never even returns to the first part. Probably the best Maiden song, to boot.

Molly boy!!! First of all CONGRATS on the 30k. You deserve the success!! I hope this shows how much your loved and appreciated!! You can tell by reading your comments how bad ass and loved Maiden is. They are a metal inspiration to most if not all metal bands out there. There isn't a single metal band I can think not that doesn't put Maiden in their top 3 of all time. For me they are tied with TOOL for being my favorite of all time. Of course besides Pink Floyd. Maiden tell epic stories in their songs. They take you on a true musical journey. From the guitars to the drums to the powerful and intelligent lyrics. One of the best bands ever. PLEASE react to Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark live, Number of The Beast and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner I'm so proud of you Molly. You're killing it! Hope your and the Ms are doing bro!

Iron Maiden is my favorite band of all time. Their musicianship is top notch, and they are consummate showmen. If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, do it. In 2024 they're still touring live, and they're still as awesome as they were when I first saw them in 1985. Besides this one, among my favorite songs from them are Aces High, Phantom of the Opera, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Deja Vu, Wasted Years, Revelations, Children of the Damned

The lead singer flies, the 747 or whatever of jet there is for the band and I understand he is a fighter pilot for the British Air Force. He’s a fascinating fellow you gotta do all of iron maiden or you will miss out.

First 2 albums , Self Titled, and Killers, with lead singer Paul Di’anno, have a lot of Attitude. This is the third album 1982, The Number of The Beast, with Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals, the next album is Piece Of Mind! After these 4 albums Maiden slowly became a more progressive Metal band as they evolved. Musicianship has always been top level, and these first 4 albums inspired just about every Metal band that came along in the 80’s.

IS there more from them like that? Well, holy cow... there is a LOT for you to check out! Please do more! Some great recommendations already from their earlier work, I would like to suggest Dance of Death or Longest Day from their early 2000's work, both also absolutely epic!

I took my son to see Maiden 2 years ago when he was 8. Wuthin 3 people of the rail. The eye contact the boys on stage gave him was awesome. His energy for this sing had him jumping and bouncing and playful as can be. What a moment for all of us

Far and away my favorite Maiden tune. I can't not watch every reaction to this tune. This was on my mix tape when I was 12-13 carrying a ten pound boom box wherever I went. They had so many lyrics pulled from classical literature. The title song Number of the Beast is so good too. Definitely university level lyrical writing from Iron Maiden, kind of like Rush, but actually heavy metal. The lines below certainly played a role in making me think deeper and appreciate the message that music can deliver. They still do so many decades later. Pretty heavy content for a kid that went to 12yrs of Catholic school in the midwest US. Tears flow, but why am I crying? After all, I'm not afraid of dying. Don't I believe that there never is an end? AND When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion

Everytime you listen to Maiden live you have to imagine standing and going crazy with 60,000 other people around you, THEY PACKED STADIUMS and it was a SHOW smoke , explosions , Eddie , killer stages, great memories. Powerful band. When that solo hits “ PEOPLE LOST THEIR SHIT” “ bodies went flying , chairs, beer, everything ,and being in the PIT in front was the closest to HEAVAN you would ever get at an Iron Maiden show!!🎉

This album was one of their biggest releases, but was, in fact, released in 1982... one of my favourites. But their big hit from this was in fact, NUMBER OF THE BEAST. It put them on the map in the 80's. But if you REALLY wanna go on a journey, listen to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, from the Power Slave album... one of my ALL TIME FAVE SONGS from Iron Maiden.

Great Great band, even better live. I had so many shirts, posters, and even an awesome jean jacket with a massive Eddie The Trooper patch on the back, in the 80s. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them live multiple times. I've been to many shows but only a few bands have ever brought me back for more. Maiden stands above the rest.
