You're taking this reaction the right way. One thing you'll find with Metallica and metal in general, is that you'll enjoy the musical aspect of it as much or even more so than the lyrics. The music really does tell a story, in fact, Metallica has several musical pieces where you have no choice but to enjoy the music since there are no lyrics at all.

One more thing guys, great reaction.. i think you will love Metallica more and more for each song. Just remember: 1. Always listen carefully to both lyrics and music (all of it, drums, guitars.. can be hard to follow sometimes but there is always a flow/rythm no matter how fast they play). 2. If, IF, you pause a solo, always rewind (like you did this time). You want to hear the whole thing without pausing it, the solos sometimes tell a story better than the lyrics. Pausing a solo is like pausing Mike Tysons uppercut half way, or Jordans buzzer shot, or.. etc :) 3. I would love to recommend which song you should listen to but honestly, they have so many songs "up there" its ridiculous.. anything really from album 1-4 is considered their prime. Album 5 was the first "album for average joe" ish, some love it, some say sell out but that album contains many bangers (some of which i know you have heard the choruses/riffs to without knowing it). Personally, i could easily mention my bottom 10 faster than my top 30 songs... like i said, they have MANY great ones, you'll see ;) Have fun

Ya I've been told about the pausing during solos a lot in our first couple of reactions to metallica and I definitely have taken the advice and toned it down for the sake of the viewer. I try to remember to rewind it too. I paused it this time because I was really feeling it and felt the need to talk about the specific picture in my head at that very moment. However, I can see I could have maybe waited until it ended and made those be our final thoughts. Most people click off videos during the outros though. I hear these analogies of pausing solos all the time but I don't think I will ever fully understand the feeling (even though I'm a big fan of basketball and mike tyson) because part of what I enjoy to do with music is talk about what is being conveyed. It is much easier to do that in the moment. Either way I appreciate all of the kind words and will make sure to keep the pausing to minimum if that's what you guys want. But I also think our style may just not be for everyone. Have a good one and thank you again!
@absolutinte864

@@2brothas722 I hear you man, no worries. Basically as long as you rewind, nobody will hate you for pausing in the middle of a solo as some of them are actually quite long (well, i mean, lots of haters out there.. so i am sure someone will always hate..). And yes, always good to tell what you are thinking and if that requires you pausing, then so be it. I also know about the fact that you, and other reactors, have to pause so the video doesnt get blocked etc.. do your thing, more important to get the video up than making people happy with pausing/not pausing. Basically: Always rewind 5-10 secs if you pause (no matter where in the song) and IF you pause a solo, you "need" to rewind all of it.. like i said, the solos tell a story and if you try (not while reacting) listening say to Fade to black again, alone.. with headphones, in your room or whatever.. and just listen to the music and i think you might feel what we all are talking about... :)

The song is, like you said, about depression and what not down that route, suicide etc. However, Metallica wrote this song after they (their tour bus i think) were robbed during a tour and James got his amplifier (i think) stolen, on top of like everything else they owned.. the reason that amplifier was special to him was that it was one of the last thing he had left from his mother, she gifted it to him. So basically he, they all, felt sad and shit because they got their shit stolen right when things were going good etc... and wrote this. The solo in the end is one of my fav all times, easy. To think they were like 21 when they wrote this and the whole album.. crazy stuff.

@@2brothas722 Always :) if you are uncertain, you can always look up the meanings of the songs (im sure you know there are a bunch of sites for that). Usually Metallica has a deep meaning in their songs, about war, about politics, life etc etc. Some look up the meaning before hand, some after listening.. either way its a great way to understand the band/song more. They have more than a couple of songs are influenced by books, movies, their peronal life etc.

The inspiration for this song is that while they were touring to support their debut album, their trailer full of gear was stolen. Thousands of dollars worth of equipment, all the guitars/amps they'd used for years and come to love. In the aftermath of that, James Hetfield was in such a depressive state that this is the song that came out of the experience.

The thing you have to understand about depression (the clinical kind) is that it’s not a matter of being sad or unhappy about your life. It’s a medical condition caused by your brain chemistry being f’ed up in such a way that makes you feel sad and unhappy for no reason. And no activity or interest you try to pursue can change that. You have lost the ability to feel joy or anything but sadness and unhappiness. For some it comes and goes and for others it is all day every day. It takes medication and therapy to teach you ways of thinking (because the medication isn’t a magic wand, it doesn’t solve it like magic, it just makes it possible for you to do the work to fight back) to combat it.

Yup, as others have said this song was written by James Hetfield after his guitar and amp were stolen. His mother bought them for him before she died from cancer. If you're not a musician you may not totally understand, but instruments are a personal thing. Especially a guitar, its one of the few instruments that you wear on your body. Not all guitars sound the same, and not all guitars feel the same, even 2 of the same kind,. One will feel better to you than the other. You have to find "the one" that feels like its part of you. Most guitarists have many guitars, but there will be one in the collection that cannot ever be replaced. Its "the one". It isnt just an instrument, its the gateway to your soul.

I’m probably going to be the 1st to address something you’ll probably get from some others that aren’t as cordial as I’ll be. There is a part of the experience with rock/metal songs people will chastise you about and that’s pausing or stopping midway through a guitar solo/outro. I understand the whole KZfaq copyright infringements and I am not upset. The only thing that I can TRY to teach you is that in lots of songs that are deep and meaningful and have those solos that are supposed to evoke an emotion that goes with the lyrical content. It also breaks the vibe and flow of the emotion it’s intended to give the listener. It’s almost like if you’re into a video game and you’re about to win or level up and someone unplugs your system. This is the one way I can try to make you understand what some music is supposed to do. You all did great in deciphering the meaning and understood it. It would’ve been deeper if you hadn’t stopped it during a great guitar solo that made you feel what the person I’m the song was going through with the instrumentation. I don’t know if you’ll even read any of this I just felt I had to get it off my chest because whether you believe it or not, it was reported years ago that this song actually HELPED lots of people avoid suicide through the music. That’s deep and can be appreciated by those with issues that they don’t know how to deal with.

I appreciate your advice and explanation. This isn't the first time I've been told about pausing the solos though lol if you look at our first couple videos on metallica in particular people in the comments got on me A LOT. At this point I get it and I usually try to avoid pausing during them for the sake of some viewers but sometimes I have things I want to say in that particular moment. Like during this video I was talking about the picture it was painting in my head. Not to mention the solo in this song was like 2 minutes long and I only paused once XD. I think I rewinded it a bit too as I was suggested to do in previous videos. However, even with all of that I just don't think its a big deal to pause during a solo when our goal is to commentate over the songs on how we are feeling about it. Trust me when I say we still felt every bit of what this song had in store. A lot of what goes into commentary is in the moment reactions, unless we were to write a script but obviously we wouldn't do that for a video like this. I'll add time stamps so everyone can skip the parts where we talk if they don't care for them. I'll continue to keep the pausing during solos to a minimum but I can't promise I'll stop entirely. There a number of people who don't want us to pause ever during the whole video lol and that just seems ridiculous to me. I understand the solo part though. Either way I appreciate your words and being respectful. P.S. I don't do it for copyright either these videos can't be monetized either way lol.
@yotaman2112
@yotaman2112 2 жыл бұрын
@@2brothas722 no need to add the time stamps. Your natural reactions are good enough to enjoy naturally. My point is just a simple request to TRY avoiding a pause during solos. Everyone operates differently and if it would be my wish is for you to maybe take notes during those times you have a comment to make. I’ve seen one other reactor who does this and just lets the whole song play through. He’ll go back through his notes and talk about those points he had during the song/ video. I know it takes a specific skill to do this so I’ll leave it at that and wish you both the best of luck with your future reactions. I’ll keep your channel on my go to.

Not necessarily in all circumstances. For example, there is no way in hell jeff bezos or Elon Musk's lives are easy. Of course they are infinitely better off than someone who is dirt poor (especially in a 3rd world country), but compared to the standard middle class American.. Nahhh. I don't think I'd want to be in their positions. But my main point is that someone had to put the work in to obtain/sustain that money. And more money does mean more problems. I understand that other problems go away as well, but there are pros and cons to pretty much everything. But if everything is spoon fed to you and you never really had to work for what you have even as an adult, that's when I'd say life is definitely much easier than even the regular middle class American. Human's will still find something to complain about though lol.
