I've been a hardcore metalhead my whole life and I'm not ashamed to say that Babymetal is in my top 10 favorite metal bands.

As a metal elitist, I love the fresh and light hearted (while staying amazingly heavy) sound they bring.

The song is about fighting your old self so that you can progress and improve,they used Karate as a metaphor I think , it also talks about not giving up after you've been knocked down, which is why I love Babymetal they promote positive thoughts in a negative world. BTW cute puppy.

Your reaction is the same as every metal head I ever introduced to Babymetal. It started as confusion, then it changed into a great big grin, then it ended with 'holy shit this is cool'.

"Karate" is very much about having to put in the work to become strong enough so you can face all challenges that life throws your way. Notice how the white "ghosts" are actually the three girls themselves? I interpret that as representing fighting your inner demons to become a better person. Most of Babymetal's songs are actually very positive and empowering.

They have crazy talented musicians behind them. When i saw them live, the bassist shredded like many metal guitarists couldn't do on a guitar. One of the guitarists is Takayoshi Ohmura. Check out his video The Cataclysm (Simply search it on KZfaq). That dude is absolutely talented too. All of the musicians were well-known in the japanese music scene and they were put together to be their band and it's awesome.

Youre biggest struggle is that you fight yourself. "Whatever knocks us down, we will fight."

Have you seen any of their live performances yet? They are insane and the amount of people at their concerts and the range of different people is crazy. The band is so Amazing behind them but their performances seriously are amazing!

Babymetal is who got my daughter into metal, she’s 8, it’s now her favorite band and I got to take her to see them in Dallas with Avatar. Long story short, the song is about fighting your inner demons to become a better person. Even if you get knocked down, get back up a fight harder. There is a guy on blogspot, Duane Metal who is a native Japanese speaker that does translations of babymetal songs if you want to do more of their songs. You can't just translate Japanese to English because a lot gets lost in translation. He adds annotations to clarify meanings for lines that don't translate well.

The video of them performing this song in the rain at Download Fest a couple years ago is also great. Awesome performance and awesome crowd.

Babymetal is something I think needed to happen to get people into metal. If not for nu metal (Linkin Park, SOAD, POD, Korn), I wouldn't be into what I like now (Lamb of God, Soulfly, Meshuggah, Cattle Decapitation).

This was the first song by Babymetal that I could enjoy musically, so I looked up the translated lyrics and found out how emotional and heart-warming they are. In the chorus they sing about the fights that everybody has from day to day, never giving up and having faith in ourselves. It even caught me a little bit off guard when I read that one of the two younger girls suffered from a bad disease and that this might be one of those struggles that this song is about. I hope she is doing well today...

Most people think the song is about fighting evil but its about the girls fighting negatives within themselves. The three ghost figures are their inner demons like doubt,fear and selfishness that they must face and defeat.If you notice at the end when the three ghost looking things are unmasked, they are actually themselves, and you can see the reflection of each of the girls in the eyes of the opposing selves

I discovered them last year and dove in hard after their guitarist died last January (RIP Mikio Fujioka), What I found is UN-BE-FREAKING-LEAVABLE. I listen or watch their vids almost every day and I'm a 53 year old, long time metal bassist, guitarist, singer-songwriter myself, I wouldn't listen to lame shit, this stuff is next level. You gotta go to Road of Resistance, Live In Japan next. >One of the GREATEST performances of all time.< Not a lie! They have two albums but they are a live show band, Some of the best stuff ever created. Their live shows from japan especially are absolutely insane. Tokyo Dome, Saitama Super Arena 2015, and their ground breaking show at Wimbley Stadium, where they became the first Japanese act to ever headline the British venue and set an all-time merchandise sales record to boot. Seriously, they are so fn good. Peace!

I seen them live in Philly, Pa. They are so much fun to watch live, and they sound amazing too. Probably in my top 5 of bands I've seen live.

If you ever wanted to do Babymetal again I'd highly recommend Ijime Dame Zettai :) The song has a cool guitar riffs and the whole composition is just great from a musical perspective and there are a few solos so ye it's fun :D

It's nice that you gave Babymetal another chance since I don't think that Gimme Chocolate really shows how awesome they are! (It's still a nice song though) The song Karate pretty much is about to fight your inner demons / problems and get over it btw. Babymetal splits the metal fanbase since some just really love them but of course a lot of people hate them because they are no "real metal". In fact though, if you listen to all of their songs, you'll see how much the person behind Babymetal (it was kind of one guy who had the idea for Babymetal) loves metal since they're doing so many of the subgenres of metal in their songs. And for me as a guy who listens to metal for years now Babymetal is just a breathe of fresh air cause of their mix of metal and pop. You should definitely check out some live videos from them though since this is where they really shine. They have an amazing live band backing them up and just to see three japanese girls dance to metal is so weird but awesome at the same time! Also the vocalist just nails it live, they are all super talented! To be honest, they are way better live than a lot of the "real" metal bands to say it like the haters. Also I think you should really check out other japanese Bands! Most "Maximum The Hormone" and "Dir en grey". Both of them are amazing and have a really unique sound to them! Oh and maybe some fun fact for your interest: Matt Heafy, the vocalist of Trivium, likes Babymetal and Maximum The Hormone too and supported them by having pictures taken with Babymetal for a magazine or posting a picture of him with one of the Maximum The Hormone guys!
