Thanks! The camera men used to film the hunts are not new to this, they have all filmed numerous hunts over the years and always keeps an eye open for extraordinary shots.

So the first shot was deemed a miss?

It seem so yes. Angle at which the bullet hit the water deflected it somehow. On the video it looks like a hit but the PH could not find any proof of a sure hit even in the days after.

@@THEHuntingChannel Maybe because those animals are so conditioned to the presence of humans in their little enclosure that the whole group of "hunters" can stand in full view talking and taking selfies without so much as a ripple on the water from the hippos. I love hunting in Africa, and this ain't it.

@@edwardpape5819 Where have you hunted hippo before in Africa? I would really like to see how you do it.

@@edwardpape5819 The reason I'm asking where you hunted is because I've filmed hippo hunts all over Africa, and most of the times you can talk close to hippo without them moving off. They'll bob up and and down, not giving you a shot, but often they still hang around even with a wide river to move off to. Sometimes they dive and walk off, other times they hang around.

@@THEHuntingChannel You asked the question [How so?] and I offered an answer to it. No need to get defensive - if this works for you then you do you. If someone is inclined to ride around in the cruiser, shoot at pen-raised or at put-and-take "hunting" operations, and possibly shoot from the vehicle (as so many "hunts" that take place in South Africa show on their KZfaq videos) then that's their choice. It's just not correct to call it hunting. It's the type of thing that gives real hunting a bad name.

Question: These hippos seem to be within an enclosure of sorts, i.e. not free to roam, hence the person saying hippo shooting and not hunting? Also before answering, note I have hunted hippos before and even had a charge, so please understand that some of us know what we see. This is not a good way to hunt. It is essentially a canned hippo hunt from the behaviour of the animals and the hunters modus operandi.

It's not in the mighty Zambezi, if that's what you mean, but it's also not in a cage. Remember that habitats differ, dam sized differ. Hippo move around a lot and they end up in small pons sometimes. In both Zim and Zambia I've seen hippo in ponds that isn't even deep enough to cover their backs. I'm happy to hear that you had a good hunt, and even experienced a charge. Where did you hunt?

@@THEHuntingChannel Chewore South. But this dam is enclosed and these hippo are unable to to move further afield. I can assure you when hunting them, you will not get this close when they sense your presence. I hear your points but really these are captive hippos in an "enclosure" of sorts being the only water refuge available. Not something I would do. My suggestion is to try hunting them in a place where they have a fair chance to evade you. They don't have one in this case. Nonetheless, thank you for the polite reply.

Chewore is great. I haven't filmed much in South but have filmed often in North. I don't understand why you say these are enclosed hippos. As you know you cannot really enclose hippo, they go where-ever they want to go. This is a big enough dam and area to maintain a pod of this size very comfortably. An enclosed area won't have enough food and they will destroy everything in the area. I have filmed many areas all over Africa and even in the wildest places you can stand talking close to hippo without them moving away. They feel safe in the water and will bob up and down for hours. Sometimes they will move off but they always return because they are very territorial. I understand your concert, though.

@@RiskCapCom this dam is not enclosed in any form. Go on the website of the hunting outfitter, their location is available and use Google Earth to try and spot the enclosure your referring to.
