My name is Ronnie Ciago. I was the drummer in this video. Hiram was fighting a bad cool at the time. We did the whole video in a few hours. No rehearsal, we just went in and did it..

+Ronnie Ciago Yes, great drumming Ronnie! Two questions for you: 1. Were you hired by Hiram or the video production company? 2. Also, did you do anything else with Hiram before and/or after filming the video? Thanks!

Met him in the old Oberlin Inn restaurant back in the day, eating brunch following an electrifying concert at Finney Chapel the night before. Hugely influential, and always inspiring. R.I.P. Hiram Bullock. 🙏 Daniel

I knew him when he was fifteen, rail-thin, a Baltimore Polytechnic scholarship student playing bass in my brother's raucous band. He was fully self-possessed, headed somewhere, reading his surroundings, quiet. Just played bass with the local semi-talents. Last I saw him, maybe 1972, was the first time I saw him play guitar, actually mine, come to think of it - a maple neck sunburst Stratocaster - which he tried out using a quarter for a pick. Fluent and sophisticated, way above standard. This was before he went to Florida to study. Treated me kindly, warm, honest, almost like a colleague, which was gracious of him, but as I said, he knew what he was doing. He was younger than the rest of us, but still...we were just teenagers, and he was the real thing.
@swanspirit94697 жыл бұрын
I knew Hi in Baltimore too. Did you ever go to Crossroads? We used to go over to Hiram's basement and listen to him jam. He would eventually play every instrument that anyone else was playing, and play it better! He was fantastic even when he was very young.I am proud to have been his friend. I told him he was going to be famous someday!

thx for the memories, both paul and sawn, great to hear about Hiram...I knew a young genius myself back in the early 80's, songwriter extraordinaire, just blew everyone's minds at the time...

I miss Hiram... he had such a cool "guitar slinger" look when he was playing... plus his chops were so great. he seemed like one of those guys who had music just dripping out of his pores. RIP Hiram.

Those that know cool jazz are familiar with Hiram Bullock. This guy was the slickest guitarist that never really received his just due as far as a wider renown. However, when you listen to him speak and display his genius on his instrument you'll see that he's an absolute luminary. I rank him on the same plane as I've placed Jaco Pastorius, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, and Donny Hathaway. Legendary...R.I.P brother Hiram.

Hiram Bullock was obviously a great guy.Although I had heard of him for a long time, I never had the opportunity to hear him play and/or talk about his music.That's where internet is a chance.I must admit I became an instant fan of the Man himself (certainly more than the guitar player I have to confess) right after the very first minutes of this video.

I remember seeing Hiram with Sanborn at the Hammersmith Odeon. I was up in the circle at the end of the row, and at some point he disappeared from the stage and reappeared right beside me, swinging away in his red leather trousers - I'd never seen a guitarist using a radio mike before so I was well surprised! Hell of a guitar player and a great entertainer. RIP legend.

He was an amazing guitarist; I used to watch Letterman mainly for the great performances for a few seconds right before and after commercials, and backing up musical guests. He always had great original interpretations of classic rock tunes; often I liked them better than the originals (not with Hendrix, but definitely on Stones tunes).
@timwithee49477 жыл бұрын
I found the video useful and the interviewer did a good job getting Hiram to explain his methods. He was a monster talent and losing him so early was a shame. Saw him live with David Sanborn and most of the Night Music band in August 1988. I think Teri Lynn Carrington was the drummer with Don Alias doing percussion.
