Engineering in wow, why was it so special? Why was it so strong? Why did it make so much less gold than all other professions? Some of these questions will be answered, and some are still unknown.

i started WOW in TBC when i saw a video of a warlock walking in the desert with a mechanical dragonling. i did my research and found that it was from the Engineering profession. you can make your own stuff!?!? it sounded sooooo cool on paper and tickled my tinker fantasy bone big time. i rolled a NE druid and many alts and loved the game...but never once level'd Engineering past 100. just couldn't get into it ingame and it wasn't a big money maker...ironic right?

@@becjed1701 I might be wrong, since I dont currently play. But hasn't enchanting become largely cosmetic like inscription? This is an interesting conversation to have, like by what percentage does a maxed profession boosts your performance.
@becjed1701
@becjed1701 2 жыл бұрын
@@ggamesgamerson7166 you can socket helms necks gloves belts and rings and wrists (from just 3 of them I get a 13% speed boost GREAT for kiting) and theres enchants on cloaks chests rings and a prime stat specific peice of gear giving around 45 prime stat from 2 enchants a 5% prime stat proc for weapons along with other things Without all of them it would be around a 3%-8% damage loss in total depending on the spec They are the main 2 specs to boost power with engineering being mainly a utility boost and make gold due to everone wanting the enchants and gems It's just with gems you add them with items or get them randomly instead of it being 100% (aside from crafted legos)

Yeah 100% forgot to include that, but engineering has a history of having unique engineering only auction houses, as normally players need to go to old zones to use auction houses, with the current major cities not having them. As a goblin engineer, back in WoD, I sent in a ticket with a suggestion that would have carried the sky golem into all other xpacs and be profitable to engineers but got no response. I suggested that having engineers making attachments to add to sky golem to allow him to not only pick flowers but also mine and skin would have made engineers make some gold over time as gathering professions are all stuck running around with exceptions for druids and herbalist (as sky golem picks flowers) I think it would have been a great idea. Every xpac, have engineers make that xpac attachment.

Correct me if I'm wrong. During wrath, Mind amplificatiom dish was a helmet tinker and Nitro Boost was boots tinker. Also they add a bit of stats alongside the tinkering effect so they don't stack with enchanting. Blizzard relocate these tinker to belt in Cataclysm and no longer give stat, but enchanting can be use this time. Also, Watergliding jets was added in mist.

The Reeves combat mode pissed me off the most. It was cool and did decent damage if you knew how to use it. The problem was Blizz made it completely useless. You could not use it to complete world quests of regular quests. You could not use it in any instance and could ONLY use it on the broken isles. Something that looked cool and fun was made useless. Also it was BS when Blizz made it so you couldn't use the goblin glider in instances.

I pray they remove the Engineering profession and add an Engineer class instead. My vision for it is to finally have a second class to use bows, guns and crossbows. In addition, have things like stationary turrets similar to Hunter pets, bombs, traps, etc. Maybe even a mechanic where you have to collect and store "scrap" from slain enemies or crafted from metal from mining, and that physical, bag-filling resource would be used to craft powerful constructs in battle, be able to craft things like crafting stations anywhere in the world, craft portals to specific locations, etc.

Honestly no idea where you got that the Ub3r-Spanner in bfa was in any way fun or usefull. I specifically remember that the constructs would deal less damage than a fireball at the time, while being on a 15min cd and a long cast time. You can go to the wowhead comments on the item and see that people were very much confused on the purpose of it. I think the only use found was to cheese the brawlers guild with the taunt dummy, but if I recall that was fixed some time later.

one thing I remmber whit the Rocket Boot enchantment for boots from Wrath was the fact that it had 3 diffrent failure effect. you catch fire and depending on patch would cause about 105% HP damage over 6 sec aka would kill you or was that in cataclysm? (first aid did not heal enouth from one tick to save you Dranaeis racial Gift of the Naaru ability did if just). secound was it launched you into the air whit no free autodeployed parashute (hope you brought your own or you be pankcake). it could also trigger the second one but you would get a free parachute even if you had no equiped and that would save your bacon. what I remmber was in the Wintergrasp PVP zone where I was Running from some Horde not sure why but I decided to use my Nitro boost to try and get away. it failed and sent me flying. the two horde player missed that I suddenly flew about 50+ feet straight up so they just continued past me looked around for a sec and continued, wondering where I went, because it just looked like I disapered for them.

I didn't fiddle with engineering until about 4 months into Burning Crusade. I'd never done much research on it. I only played one character, and I already had a profession that was a money pit and a bitch to skill up (Blacksmithing) and that was all I'd been told about vanilla Engineering. Then TBC dropped and threat generation on my prot warrior main went from "easy to learn the bare minimum and that's usually good enough" to "jesus harold christ everything is awful and this is giving me cancer, I'm sure of it". I spent time learning directly from the legendary Ciderhelm of Tankspot fame, but certain things were still a *super* bitch as a warrior. Mainly in heroics and anywhere multitarget threat/pulls were involved. Then I discovered these things called grenades. Total game changer. I could pull from farther away than my gun could shoot, it did solid damage to entire packs and stunned them, allowing them to be CCed and still come after me when the CC broke. With a one minute cooldown, it was ready for each and every pull. It was wonderful. There was plenty of fun utility but the meat of Engineering started being cut away as early as Wrath---there were no grenades on launch. The belt tinker they added well into the patch cycles would have been a welcome addition but the cooldown was six minutes. At the pace dungeons and heroics went, it was pretty useless to me. In Cataclysm, there were no grenades. Just as well, I effectively quit the game entirely a month before Pandaria released.

@Rose's Zen Garden incorrect, BFA had Arch as well, maybe not as pronounced, but it was active then. i get why First Aid got axed tbh, Tailors had to fight hard to keep Cloth stocked and they werent always making Gold like other crafts, so they merged FA with Tailoring, so now Tailors no longer have competition and they get easier level ups. that being said it makes sense that Arch isnt active, since we're in the afterlife, The First Ones isnt enough to carry Arch in a compelling way. in any case i see Arch rebounding soon, and if Blizzard tries to shut it down, we'll prevent it, we wont be ignored with Councils being public.

On the one hand, it was a profession that had unique items that could be fun to use. On the other hand, it was often THE profession you were forced to take or you were just doing it wrong for every type of content. This is especially true in PvP, where a movement ability and an extra stun is VERY powerful and can be the difference between winning or losing a fight. It gives a noticeable advantage and changes something from a personal choice to something tied to power... which is the EXACT same critique that is leveled against covenants. So why is one praised and the other hated? Why is one seen as blizzard removing fun by bringing it in line, but the other system seen as blizzard making the game less fun? There are other issues with covenants sure (like different specs wanting different ones) but this core critique is the same.

I think a massive problem is that Engineer had all the powerful engineer items (that only engineer could use). for example 99% of all the blacksmith items could be sold to other player there was few Requires Blacksmith to use items. like I could see Grinding stones exists as regular but Blacksmith could craft a stronger version that only black smith could use. now could they cast said effect on other player or only on themself. I remmber thinking about diffrent crafter applying diffrent buff to the veacles in Battleground. like a blacksmith gets extra armor, achamist makes the Flametrower stronger, enginner gets a faster rate of fire (exept on the flametrower), Letherworker adds HP or something.

@@Zack_Wester , well it might shift the meta around a bit, and give more options which would be more interesting and a lot more fun, but a meta would remain. Blizzard would have a new thing to balance, which could effect both PvE and PvP, and since every spec can pick any possible profession whichever is the top will be taken by everyone. Best case scenario different professions are best for different specs so not everyone takes the same thing; but still the illusion of choice because power is involved. Technically you can do what you want, but looking at data from things like covenants means most players will make the meta choice. This might be a hot take, but I don't think professions should give combat bonuses or advantages of any kind over another (ex rocket boots/belt) and I don't think racials should exist. There are VERY few RP choices in the game, race and professions are two of them, and if we freed them from power it would be an actual choice. Other RP choices like class and spec cannot be separated from power, so we wouldn't have many options of places to do this to begin with. I think the ones we have should be taken advantage of and maximized. That's my spicy take, but like every design decision you pick your poison; there are trade offs that come with every design choice good and bad. I think the one good argument you commonly hear against my take is it is removal of things that are "fun." I would actually agree, I just don't think this is the area of the game to put that kind of fun interactions by tying them to customization choices (agency and customization are two big draws of the genre and that would limit choice). I think that sort of thing is best reserved for the other things... like for example the world; basically all of the fun things about using the items could be greatly expanded upon and built into the world and how you interact with it. That would be part of a big push to make exploration worth it in these games and a big part of that is just finding fun things out in the world. New mechanics and items to interact with can be a lot of fun... and it is fun that is out there in the world to FIND; not something you queue for or have to schedule... something organic that makes different places distinct and memorable. It's also something everyone would get to play with, so it doesn't provide distinct advantage over someone else and create imbalance. Anyway, that's my two cents. Your idea definitely has some strong points as well; I especially like how different items could be of more use to different specs, which could help shore up a weakness that spec has and could be used as a way to keep class design unique. I just think especially something as complex as balancing PvP can easily be skewed and an extra stun or movement ability is very powerful in this context and can be the difference in the outcome of an encounter between players. Especially since you are forced to deal with the effects of gear, and of the different mechanics of different classes, you want everything else to be as even as possible to give you a chance in hell of balancing it all. XD
