BABYMETAL is not anime - never has been and, with any luck, never will be. Evidently, many people jump to anime simply because they are singing in Japanese, and anime is the only place they’ve ever heard Japanese singing. Would they still sound like anime if they were singing in French or German or Swedish or English?

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥 Nice reaction, I'm glad you got this suggestion from your friend spreading the Fox God love, you'll get a lot of BM fans flooding in your comments to help you out with everything about them, but one thing you gotta know is that live performance is when they always really shine, you won't get the blaster sound of the live band in the studio album, not even the same musicians, some tracks are nice either way but the core way to experience this, is at live concerts, they bring the best live shows with top notch production, although like i said there are certain exceptions with some official MV for first time watching such Megitsune, Iine!, Doki Doki Morning and Karate. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop (not Kpop) with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. The name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. This song was part of the Babyklok Tour in the US and later at the Europe & UK Tour, everyone love this song and are having a blast with the girls headbanging real hard in the middle section. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind. Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday. 15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date. This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are: - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending, The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice. The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan. Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities. They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists). They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.) - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday". - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene. They were touring with another complete different set of musicians during World Tour 2023, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group. Next suggestion: - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV. - Megitsune official MV There's no DDR game with a BM song but if you look for something similar to a DDR song then you gotta listen Iine! Official MV. If YT allow me, I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react since sometimes is very hard to watch some of their vids. See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions: - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grR2nKeIr86WdnU.html - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZhjapV0mraufIE.html - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrtja6aK0Nampn0.html - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN2jnNGe3brckqM.html - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLiTbMeTzM-mgH0.html - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pM1oiMKblc3UfH0.html - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br1yd8x9srS-k3k.html - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLmaqZyAvtq7imQ.html - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9BdiLR60dfXeYU.html If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7mqjJyVsZyVY4U.html - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8qEZNyovriZg6M.html - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9lzqbyHs8uoYKs.html - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLF_f5mnmLPIYpc.html - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case. - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g552ftie286Rp2w.html Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo. - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fs1ghdydyM2cdmQ.html This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5pgidCFrbnMZJc.html And here's a BM guide (the long one). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/naqemJOp3NTNhJs.html There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b75lqc1ikrnLj2g.htmlsi=icqbG22Ysw0Pc-Ll 🦊🤘

The closest Babymetal has ever come to anime is the opening theme to Cartoon Network's "Unikitty" series. A few of their songs are in the closing credits and promotional ads for "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands" game. One song that sounds like it could have been a opening theme to Attack on Titan is "Divine Attack". 🤘🦊🤘

Well done introducing your friend to BABYMETAL - good choice of song and performance from you and good first reaction from him.🦊 You already have some good info about them in the comments below and Ganimal83 corrected the things you weren't sure about. BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre ... and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings. They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music). BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it's main purpose is to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement. They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They first appeared in October 2012 and became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014. Just worth noting that early on BABYMETAL did not have the funding for a live band so the instrumentals were pre-recorded and played on the backing track, so if you see guys in skeleton suits it is not the Kami Band. They were called Babybones and they were not playing the instruments. You will not see them on stage in any videos after Feb 2014. At the Legend 1997 (December 21st 2013) show the Kami Band came on for the last 5 songs - it was the last time they played only the encores. In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then. They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it. I know you will be getting a load of recommendations and suggestions for more songs - go with any of them, you can't go wrong, but remember although the official videos are all good and worth seeing, BABYMETAL are a live performance act, that is where you will always see - and hear - them at their very best.

By the way, when you hear Babymetal songs, I think the reason why you think of anime songs is because most of the singers in anime songs are Japan women.😀

The reason that people always associate Babymetal with anime music is that Japanese musical compositions have certain chord progressions and melodies that are distinctive, and the Japanese language has a familiar cadence and sound if you've watched anime, so you subconsciously associate the two. The Pikachu guy is a longtime regular who shows up to a lot of Babymetal shows in his Pikachu outfit. I've seen him get clobbered in the pit a couple of times. Babymetal very rarely allow their music to be licensed for use in TV or advertising, so while it's possible that you heard it in something else, to my knowledge Headbanger!!! has never been used in that way. Yo, someone who knows Skindred!! That's cool.

Hell yeah, great to see a fan introduce a friend to Babymetal! Also, “white kids doing Wu-Tang”, HAHAH 🤣. Bruh, ngl, I will loose my shit if Babymetal collabed with Wu-Tang. Gimme a metal version of C.R.E.A.M. Even ODB will roll up out of his slumber to join this party (RIP). Couple of minor corrections: They were 16/14 in this video. Concert was “Legend 1997”, lead Su-metal’s 16th BDay show. Only member that left was Yui, due to health in 2018. They had rotating backup dancers switching into her spot, with Momoko finally becoming official 3rd in Apr 2023. Also, no songs in anime, although it would be fitting. However, *Gimme Chocolate* and *Megitsune* were used in video game Tiny Tina’s Wonderland (Borderland spinoff). And WWE used *Karate* for opener one year I believe. You should show your friend *BxMxC.* Su-metal spits some serious bars. Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

This was a fun reaction. Nice to see you introducing your friend to Babymetal. In this video Su-lead vocals-had just turned 16. Moa and Yui were still 14. I'm always amazed at the stage prescience and crowd control these very young women displayed. I do find it interesting that soooo many westerners always come up with the anime angle? Other than in the most incidental ways has Babymetal had anything to do with-actually more accurate to say Babymetal has had virtually nothing to do with Anime. Anyways again excellent reaction. p.s. only the three ladies constitute Babymetal And only one original member, Yui has left the band. The Kami band -now two Kami bands East-the one here- and West, the ones with the black outfits and masks while backing so well the ladies their personnel does change and they are not officially band members.

BM have done an opening theme for a cartoon - "Unikitty". "Goth idols" is a pretty good summation for the initial impressions of BM, but if that was all they were they would not have survived for over a decade. They are talented singers and dancers with a great backing band, well written songs and impressive staging and they put on a very good show that might be described as a combination of metal, pop and Broadway. Headbanger is a bitter sweet song about a 15 year old girl who goes to a metal concert and loses herself in the moss pit, but then realizes that such moments of pure freedom will become less common as she becomes an adult and she vows to remember her feelings. The concert is legend 1997 and celebrates Su-metal's 16th birthday and BM transforming from an idol group to a headlining metal act with a live backing band. As Su is climbing the stairs you can see "Happy Birthday" written on the bassists (BOH) bald head. They start the concert with an ironically totally mimed dubstep version of Headbanger and this reprise comes towards the end of the concert after they have been joined by the Kami Band. The next song is a beautiful "unfinished" version of "Akatsuki" that Su sings from the same place she bangs the gong and then BM do a ridiculously theatrical version of "Babymetal DEATH" with full on auto dafe to celebrate their final rebirth. #notacult. If next check out "Akatsuki Black Night" and "Road of Resistance Live in Japan".

Nice reaction. Babymetal compared to Wu-Tang Clan is a first and yet it seems fitting. The Kamiband members have changed usually due to schedule conflicts. The 3 members of Babymetal themselves stayed the same until 2018 when Yuimetal one of the original 3 left due to health issues. Although she had stopped performing with them in late 2017. Su-Metal and Moametal went on as a duo until 2023 when Momoko who was one of the avenger dancers they used in Yuimetals place. They just danced didn't sing her parts. Moa and the audience did that. Moa sang her own parts as well. Momoko became Momometal early last year. Promoted into a spot she more than earned. Their next big show will be this March in Japan for Momometals 21st birthday. A special performance for it will be held. In the meantime check out how Babymetal is even more like Wu-Tang Clan as Su does a solo song. With intro by the Kamiband Rondo of Nightmare. And Yui and Moa's duo known as Black Babymetal with their song 4 No Uta. Since Yui left Moa has done some of their songs by herself. For that check out the song GJ. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Newer live versions have subbed lyrics; this performance is from 2013 while the song was released in 2012 when Su was 15 (& Moa/Yui were 13). It's basically about a 15-year-old attending her first metal concert, reveling in her thrill (leaning back, jumping up & down, etc) but also realizing that she's hit a life milestone (end of compulsory education) & was determined to etch the night in her heart. Yui (in Paris) & Moa (in Cologne) got to sing lead when they turned 15 in 2014 (see fancams). Su then changed the line to "this special night of my twentieth" when she turned 20 (coming-of-age milestone) the next year. Ditto Moa in 2019 (aka the famous "Moabanger version" where newer fans got to hear her solo vocals for the first time in clear 4K). Highly recommend 'Road to Resistance Live In Japan' (2015) next. It's powermetal & quite accessible to foreign sensibilities, but doesn't have subbed lyrics (check out the PIA Arena 2023 Live version if you want to know what the song is about). Despite their youth & the Covid hiatus, BM has already done 7 world tours in their career & always released video albums of their live shows annually, so look them up to see how they've evolved as stage performers. Truly the most entertainingly versatile live act since Queen.

👍 👍 BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old. All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. In the beginning Amuse showed little interest and the girls had minimal financing. They performed at strip malls and small venues borrowing clothes for shows from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They quickly became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to HQ pro shot videos of LIVE performances instead of official MV's (the reason is that the vast majority of MV's use studio audio over LIVE footage AND without the awesome Kami Band instrumentals) They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.
