Thank you for discovering Dimash and welcome to a beautiful world of music. Dimash is a 28-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He has his own company „DimashAli Creative Center“ and is managed by his father Kanat. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how. Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this. His concert in September 23, 2022 was in his hometown Almaty, it was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize your so wrong. He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to improve his vocal skills. He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and have started his PhD. This song has become so listened to that it is one of his required numbers at every concert. He recently appeared in Almaty, Kazakhstan with overwhelming success. No less than 35,000 spectators from 68 countries gathered to witness this top-level spectacle. There he premiered his masterpiece "The history of one skay" to promote understanding and peace between peoples. Dimash is from Kazakhstan so his mother tongue is Kazakh. But Russian is also common in Kazakhstan, and he speaks it fluently. However, the song (SOS) is a French song, so he is singing it in French. Dimash is a polyglot, and he sings in at least 15 different languages...including English. One of my favorite of his songs is "Adagio" which he sings in English. There is also a Russian song I know you would love called "Opera 2". Of course he sings it in Russian. (There is a version with English subtitles.) Thanks you for your excellent reactions. Wanted to lean into the video and hold your bottom jaw up. 🤣 Yes, we Brits have been on a very poor diet for music over past two decade. I gave up about 15 years ago and looked East. Best decision. Found Vitas, the Dimash, then Hua Chenyu (my favourite), KZ Tandingan, Zhou Shen, Tengger, Ayanga, Cai Chengyu, Elvis Wang Xi, The HU, Forestella (they have lots of English covers 👍), Tia Ray, Sohyang, Henry Lau, Lena Park, Marcelito Pomoy, Diana Ankudinova and on and on. Amazing voices, amazing Production of shows, great musicians and backing singers. Maybe try Hua Chenyu's "Nunchucks" not in my personal Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances, but a fun intro to some of his range. Dimash is from Kazakhstan and has a 7 Octave range (including whistle). Try Sinful Passion, Love is like a Dream, Love of Tired Swans. He has some English songs, but I prefer his foreign songs. Worth seeing his guest appearance with Super Vocal Boys doing a Queen Medley. (Super Vocal Boys at that performance were Ju Hongchuan, Ayanga and Dimash's friend Cai Chengyu). It's sung in English so you may like that. And, it's... Queen songs. If you like that, you should see Forestella's Bohemian Rhapsody, or Shape of you, or Bad Romance (all sung in English... with some Spanish and Zulu in Shape of you) 🤣

From there, I have to say that personally it leaves me completely cold, for me it's nothing more than a display of technique, impressive, yes, but it doesn't reach me.

There shouldn't be a comparison between Marcelito and DIMASH for a couple of reasons. The 1st being DIMASH had support, education and training that Marcelito didn't. And 2nd DIMASH is not just a cover artist but a composer and multi-instrumentalist. And how many languages does Marcelito sing in? I have heard 3. I greatly respect Marcelito as a performer and discovered him via the Wish Bus approx. 3 (+/-) years ago. And I can understand how YT viewers might wish to compare them- but the more you explore both artist's catalogs the easier it is to discern the differences.

The song comes from Starmania, a Rock Opera. It's worth listening to the original for comparison; Dimash sings one critical note in the chorus a semitone lower and it completely changes the effect of the melody. Dimash's French pronunciation had got so much better by 2021 but I still prefer his earlier versions of the song.
