U7G Pro released in China a month ago received massive phrase for its amazing color accuracy and brightness. I have viewed one in store and it was surely a great TV. Guessing U8G will be another high-end TV killer.

Do you know the contrast ratio? Everybody's going to local dimming instead of native contrast. Last year it had a native contrast of 6,000. Before I pulled a trigger on the purchase I really need to know the native contrast. Nobody is telling me

I don't know honestly, just across the board people seem to be saying it's better than the h9g and nothing under the $2000 can beat it. Has 360 dimming zones so that's pretty good. But seems like it will a bit of lifted black but really good highlights

I just picked up the 65 inch version and came off a 48inch Samsung. I have to say first impressions have me just blown away, I am a stickler for detail and this has surpassed all expectations. Gaming is exciting for me again, I can’t wait to see more of my content through this tv’s sweet personality.

How is it? I'm thinking about this one because of how inexpensive it is for the quality, but I REALLY prefer OLED. You think this is worth it over the LG C1 OLED? This Hisense looks great but I can notice some backlight bleed and the colors obviously aren't quite as good as an OLED BUT it's half the price of the one I want! What's your thoughts?!?

Great review but here is a big question. What is the choice for "enhanced viewing"? What is the choice for Alphonse video on the tv in Advanced System Settings? Should I pick "no I don't want enhanced viewing"? All TV data can be sent to this app. for enhanced viewing -- is this SAFE? Also -- this tv gets hot -- feel on top after running for an hour or two --- is this normal?

Hey, Caleb! Thanks for the review. You may want to double check though about the U8G possibly not being the replacement for the H8G, but for the H9G. I just checked Best Buy and looks like Hisense is also bringing out the U6G which actually has specs closer to the H8G. I bought the H8G last fall after watching your review on it. Loving my TV but, I may look into the newer models this year. Have a great night!!!

I’ve been researching and the U8G is the upgrade from last years H9G due to it not having mini leds. There is a very high end U9DG which is a dual panel and $3500. No word on the U9G which would most likely be mini led and either 4K or 8k

I’m currently watching the Hisense 2021 Lineup video and it’s the U7G that’s going to replace the H8G. Not the U6G. The U6G is a step below the H8G with just 600Nits Peak Brightness and less dimming zones. So yes, the U8G will replace the H9G. The U7G will have 1000Nits Peak Brightness...

Really interested to see how it does with motion, and the ghosting that was an issue on the H9G. Hopefully they got that taken care of. Also if you can check Caleb, is this years set actually putting out 120hz or is it still only 60hz despite their claims?

I've got a 5 year old TCL Series 4 TV and am planning to upgrade. Since the price for the 55" TCL Series 6 and Hisense u8g are the same, I'm looking for a comparison. Since I'm not a gamer, that performance is irrelevant to me. But I do watch a lot of movies and will be connecting it to a TCL Alto 9 soundbar, where I hope to get decent Dolby Atmos sound. Both the TV and soundbar will be wall mounted as it's in my bedroom and there's not enough space for furniture to hold the TV. So which is better for movies and Dolby Atmos pass through? The TCL Series 6 or Hisense u8g?

Great video as always. One suggestion - could you maybe mention pricing in these vids? Appreciate it can vary from place to place, but it at least helps us to understand where each TV sits relative to the others. This TV could cost the same as an LG G1 for all I know, or it could be dirt cheap. Would help to contextualise your analysis, for me at least. And apologies in advance if it was mentioned and I just missed it!

Reviews like this convinced me to order the 55" version of the U8G. It's scheduled to arrive on Saturday via Amazon. It's an upgrade from a 5 year old 4K TCL Series 4 TV. But I am a bit concerned about the transition from the Roku OS to Android, specifically the availability of the Spectrum and Apple TV+ apps. I guess I'll figure out soon enough if they're available and, if not, what work-arounds I can use.

It's listed as 8-Bit+FRC panel... Might not have any negative downsides if the color gradient is good with the FRC, you won't notice it's not 10-bit panel. But kind of sucks it's not full 10-bit.

On Best buy overview it says the TV has 360 dimming zones for the 65". This isn't even MiniLED. I think they have one of those coming as well. But this TV looks to be a pretty darn good budget TV with HDMI 2.1 for 2 ports, Freesync. Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Basically it has it all to be honest. It will just come down to input lag (gaming), picture quality and overall quality as in will it break because poor build quality? H9G was lauded for really good black levels. What was missing on that one was HDMI 2.1

I'm curious how many use ARC for connecting to their AVR. I've been doing this for years, and I'm wondering how TV companies think putting only 1-2 hdmi 2.1 inputs on a TV (when one is usually for ARC) is fair. Wouldn't you HAVE to use 2.1 ARC to achieve full resolution?

Is there too much emphasis being put on brightness? I have the LG OLED CX, which I've read peaks at 800 nits. I can watch it in my totally average living room midday and have no issue at all with ambient light or glare. When it's dark in the room, bright scenes throw enough light to make me squint. Is there a metric on a happy medium for brightness/contrast/accuracy being persued, or is this just a manufacturer's numbers game of more is better?

Hdr on led with 1000 nits or more is a must if you want to enjoy the directors intent which is most hdr movies are made with 1000nits. For oled with 800nits so hdr will also be superb because of its pixel to pixel illumination so have color accuracy and cant beat contrast ratio men its on another level. I like how panasonic pushing the brightness of their oled to almost 1000nits and they added sort of a colling system to maintain the brightness and burn in prevention

@@marklouieadame might be a case of what you’re used to but I just got a Sony X90J and there’s no issues with reflections or anything, that might be the anti glare screen they’re using now or that I upgraded from a really old plasma that was like a mirror lol I just googled and it has 700 nits, I doubt I’d be able to tell the difference

I hope that you are notified of messages to older videos because I'm having setting issues. Or for anyone else that has solved these. Every time I set the picture to different than out of the box, it keeps resetting to the factory settings. I've followed Caleb's settings yet they won't stay. This also goes to the sound settings. Nothing stays. Has anyone figured it out? This TV is rocking and took me weeks to decide that this one was the best that I could afford.

It's rated for 1500 Nits, but rumor has it as putting out 2000 and in any case Not washing out color volume.

You can do the checkerboard pattern and check the native contrast ratio by turning off local dimming with an app on the phone. Just search nits measurement tool. Your phone screen dimming sensor can actually tell you what the contrast ratio is by measuring the whites versus black. I can find the native contrast ratio anywhere. If you can please find out we would greatly appreciate it

Digital Trends, your thoughts?? Now that I know Hisense isn’t bringing their U9G mini LED to USA this year, I’m definitely waiting to see what TCL does with their 6 series! Could be a mistake on Hisenses part. If TCL improves their 6series and brings it to USA along with it being available in 75” where the U8G isn’t (55-65”).....then that’s the deal breaker and I’m going with TCL. Your thoughts??

I got my 65” u8g for 999 on Amazon It’s been great so far ! I’m coming from a 6 year old Samsung . The u8g just has features that 1500+ TVs do . Just hoping it lasts somewhat close to Samsung LG Sony and all them higher tiers

Hey. I think I bought the wrong Hisense U8G although it says U8G on the box, but it’s peak brightness is about 1000 nits and it doesn’t have hdmi 2.1 apart from that it has everything else. I really don’t know what to do. What do you think Caleb?

Why is my remote different? Australia : HISENSE U8G 55” Metal sleek small design remote rather than the plastic one? Looks way cooler but IDK why mine came with it

one quick question, hisense U8G vs Sony X90J, which is better?

An old question I know, but speaking as someone who bought a U8G first and returned it for an X90J, I prefer the Sony. U8G has a lot of potential, but X90J is a better well rounded TV. U8G beats Sony in brightness levels, sure, but it is eye burning bright, and overkill in SDR. Sony TV is PLENTY bright enough, and the deal breaker is the motion. U8G motion is terrible, especially in 4k HDR. This was a deal breaker for me, and all the updates did not fix this for movie watching. For price range, x90J for sure.
