yeh, the whole process looked good to me. I especially liked the more experienced seal rescuer not just taking over from the guy that brought it in, but just guiding him & letting him stay involved in the care by picking it up. They look really professional all round!

Seals are one such species that will leave the pups on the beach, yes, ALONE for hours or days while momma goes off to hunt at sea, then return to the same area and to the pup following calls and scent. Look at how chunky this pup is, it's still being fed by mom and is at least almost fully grown. I bet these people didn't rescue an abandoned pup, they stole a pup from the beach while the mom was away hunting. >.>

@@TAiiNE They were likely monitoring the seal population in the area since they also mentioned it's very low there. Therefore they track the babies and their progress. This particular pup was much skinnier than he was supposed to be for his age, even if he had been waiting for his mom several days. That's because he hadn't been eating and didn't know how to hunt for himself yet. They were likely watching over him too, and that's how they knew his mom had, for whatever reason, left him weaned, but without teaching him how to feed himself.

I thought it was adorable! A good sign for proper release back into nature.

@@christianevanherck6023 Thats NORMAL for seals. Depending on the species and area pups are often slimmer then ones in other areas depending on the fat content in the mothers milk. The pure fact that they try and say 'mom left before she taught the seal to hunt' is a giveaway that whoever's doing the voice over don't know anything, seals don't do that. When the puped weened then mom goes BYE have fun and then its the pup to dive in. All 'fish school'; at rehab is is tossing in fish and letting them catch it to make sure they are able, that theres no neurological or other reason that may hinder them hunting, same thing theyd do in the wild. I volunteered for five years at a rehab when I lived in CA. We would have people every breeding season go up and go OH LOOKIT THE ABANDONED BABYS when they were perfectly fine. We monitored the pups, and even had some with tags on their flippers from past rehabs and releases to monitor them. Just because a baby is 10 kelos underweight is normal depending on what kind of food the mom can find and how much the baby nurses and how often she returns to feed it. Plus if its so close to weening the mom will return less and less to encurage the pup to start hunting on its own, this does cause the pup to lose weight if it takes a bit more to 'get its fins wet' per say.

@@TAiiNE You can't ignore the fact that the seal was in excellent condition at it's release. Better leave it to those Irish professionals to know what to do with seals in the natural conditions of Ireland.

There's a school of thought when rescuing wild animals and keeping them in a domesticated environment for more than a short period it's inhumane to release them back into the wild as they've shed some of the skills needed for true survival.

Therefore they're much more qualified than you are to say that he's significantly underweight and needed intervention. What looks like "chunky" to you is actually not enough fat for a baby seal of his species. He needed the help and he got it, and then went back to the wild with the skills he needs to survive. Workers of a conservation center aren't the same as hapless, ignorant people/tourists who happen to find a baby alone. These pups are monitored closely because, again, they're an endangered species.

….encouraging because there’s a seal rescue team with volunteers that help lil fellas like Phoenix, in their rehabilitation and release. I also love that they did the release in a pair. You can see that they waited for one another/stayed together. It probably gives them confidence and a better shot at long term survival. Where one lacks in a skill (hunting, evading predators, etc.) the other probably helps teach the other. 💖💖

I assume it is also possible that his mother died and didn't just abandon him. I have been watching a channel called "Ocean Conservation Namibia" that is focused entirely on seal rescue in Namibia. The number of seals they rescue on an almost daily basis, most of them wrapped in fishing nets, plastic bags, snagged by fishing hooks, etc., is heartbreaking, but I am happy to see that people all over the world are doing what they can to save animals.

@dogs aren't dangerous well I certainly hope not! Killer whales have been known to be a real pain in the ass for seals and other sea creatures occasionally showing up on every major Coastline globally so let us keep our fingers crossed for those lovely little seals

Makes you wonder. I live in my car, been 9 yrs. I see that some want to be saved while others don't bc they want to cont in their debauchery. Some are innocently not in their right minds while others burned out their minds. It takes proper vetting to know what to do with who. Jesus help us all.
