A very well edited video, I liked the combination of narration and game ,snippets. and excerpts from your own films. And what you said about the trade-off between realism and what will look good in the game. Everyone is more or less aware that this must be the case, but we rarely have the opportunity to find out what, in detail, such a compromise consists of.

I knew that he is also the Rebellion CEO, but I‘ve usually only heard him talk strictly history. Seeing him talk as a game dev, makes him even more interesting. I really can’t stand the “historians” criticising games for being unrealistic, whilst not understanding entertainment and game development. He understands both, very nuanced
@user-jq1mg2mz7o
@user-jq1mg2mz7o 8 ай бұрын
that's something I've always found a litle grating too. yes, historical accuracy and realism can bring a game to life, but it's not like devs who spend years on projects don't *know* most of the facts (especially since most games stick to the more well-known time periods), they've made a creative decision to be more cinematic or bend things to accomodate a type of design etc. I also like that he uses this chance to educate and share a passion for his own experimentation and the knowledge he's learnt

I really miss cavalry charging through infantry. Total War Warhammer looks ridicilously bad in that regard. They just stop at the first rank. I remember in the old Mount and Blade days, playing Full Invasion 2, we used to do pretty epic cavalry charges, and you quickly learn to just keep going, keep moving, reform, and do it again. In reality, multiple charges apparantly were quite rare. I remember reading about the Battle of Rossbach were Seydlitz managed the unheard of feat of regrouping and charging a SECOND time.
