This is maybe my all time favorite Ben video. My NNJ old guy longboard crew were all watching this insanity go off on the cams and I was hoping you were back home for it.

These are my favorite Ben videos! Pure surfing - Jersey style. Nothing beats it. So epic!

I've been surfing Jersey Shore for over 50 years, for real. Through numerous hurricanes with @16ft faces, maybe 20 ft @ Seaside piers and LBI with Coast Guard choppers overhead shouting through bull horns 'we must evacuate immediately or you'll be....blah blah blah', my point being that NEVER have I seen barrels so perfect and clear on this Coast. From Maine to the Keys I maybe had two or three days worth of very funky tubes that closed out before I could count to 11 but at least they had some shape. Then in the evening we'd ride up to Asbury, first stop, the belated Mrs.J's for countless ice cold pitchers of PBRs with fries and clams just for nutrition. Then straight into The Pony to see 'Bruce' and my friend Lance Larsen with Lord Gunner. One drunken evening a long time ago I promised Lance I'd use one of his tunes in a Hollywood movie. Which I did! I directed and wrote a film, Fathers and Sons, with Jeff Golblum, Samuel Jackson, Roseanne Arquette (as 'Madame Marie' the Boardwalk fortune teller Springsteen sings of in SANDY). My best friend and still 'Soul partner' Jon K. produced it. (Another Jersey 'boy'/ body surfer,) It's a beautiful film we shot all down the shore like Jon and I always said we would. Today? just got off the phone with Jon. I'm a Blessed and a lately surf hungry Rabbi! Plus writer etc. Clean and sober for 21 + years (Thank God), So Thank You, Mr. Gravy, send out an all points bulletin next 100 years when they're breaking like above!

Day of days for Jersey. Epic barrels the locals will speak of for decades. You scored big time. 😊

@BenGravy you are a full time Professional surfer don’t let anyone ever state otherwise!!!!. It’s not about how many stickers you have on your shortboard although you are starting to collect a few lol 😉. The way you approach surfing a surf break takes it beyond the WSL and the purist of free surfers. You just get it done you commit yourself 100 % inspired to the very end 🤟

Here I am in Australia with some of the best waves in the world a 200m walk and can surf them in boardies. And I take it for granted. I probably wouldn't have paddle out in that I would be like it looks to messy, but you got some mad ones. I need to be more grateful for the things I have for real and be stoked like you are. Nothing else matters except making the most of what your given and being grateful for it.

B.O.S. waves for the Captain and Crew, (B*lls of Steel) - The North Shore guys prob calling this 6 to 8'; most of them won't ever appreciate just how crazy and difficult this is with all that Neoprene, shallow conditions - cold wind, freaky paddle-outs. Hard to believe you paddle-in these waves with a 5' 11'', pure madness... Sure looked a lot more relaxed and make-able w/ mechanical-advantage. Helluva' document of what Jersey-Juice can potentially be; Madd' Props and Respect... ~ y'allz Rock Stars of the Winter Surf World !!!

Ben love your on track Surf format. Keep on the path. Goose and I surfed Hurricane Gloria at Long Branch Sept 86. I paddled out and waves were 20'. I remember Mario one of owners of Moceans Surf Shop. Instead of paddle along rocks which seemed risky. He waited Huge Sets and threw his Board off Jetty and Dove in. Man I wish I had Video. The jetties are too close after I made in, Goose looked at me. Are you crazy? He valued his Life. 26 and thinking it is worth the Challenge. Keep Riding the Tube.

Stoked you were on it. I missed the swell in NC because I couldn't find my gloves and hood and didn't want to be the only guy out in 25ft waves. If my neighbors were out I or it was warmer I'd have given it a try. I probably wouldn't have made the paddle out, but I wanted to try but not die.

El Nino!!! Waiting to see what happens here in Hawaii this winter now??!!! El nino's pretty much always throw down some XXL+ surf on our north shores!!!!!! You guys cracked me up when you were trying to make the real casual, on the DL shaka's!!! Lol! Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, born in 1960, our beach house was right at Pipeline/Ehukai beach. Been surfing my whole life since I was 5 years old, and surfing Pipeline was what I focused on, plus a lot of other great spots throughout the islands!! Yeah, I remember back before the "shaka", hang loose was even a thing!!! I actually remember the very first time I ever saw a guy throw the shaka!!! I was probably around 9-12 years old, so 1969-70, we were getting driven to school by my dad, and a guy was trying to merge onto the highway so my Dad slowed down and let him in. Guy was a huge "Blah lah" Hawaiian, and he was driving the super laid back style with his one hand on the wheel and the left arm just hanging out the window. As he pulled in front of us he just did a little flick of his hand, twisting his wrist and flashed the shaka sign!!! I immediately said to my brother, sister and dad, "hey did you guys see that??" That big "moke" just like waved thanks by making a cool hand sign!!!!! I'd never even heard of the shaka then!!! Nobody I knew had any idea about it!! Within a few months it started spreading and then became a standard thing in the islands!!!!! Now, it's pretty much universally known throughout the world!!!!!! People do it in different countries all over now!!!!! Yeah strong buoy readings and some spitting slabs!!! Good for you guys!! Loved that clip of the guy on that big barreling wave , back from hurricane sandy (?). That was pretty epic for you guys on the east coast!! Hurricanes do produce some really sick waves for you guys though!!! Right on Ben!! Glad my friends Jamie, and Kalani took you out to the outer reefs so you could experience it, plus it had pretty nice winds and conditions that day!!! I used to paddle out to the "cloud breaks" to surf when it got good, back in the 70's before we really used leashes, and there were no jet skis. They hadn't developed urethane leashes back then and we really didn't want one in waves that big back then. Growing up surfing before surf leashes, you had to be an incredible swimmer because you regularly had to swim in to shore when you lost your board to get it. Often you'd get to the beach and run up to where you could look out to sea and then see your board floating way outside in the rip current and just dive back in and then swim all the way back out and beyond the waves to get your surfboard!!!! It was so uncrowded back in those days, and surf leashes are the reason cause today for instance there are guys out surfing the north shore that would never even dare go out there without a leash!!!! We were really full on Hawaiian waterman back in those days!!!! I was also an Olympic water polo player, which all the years of surfing big waves in Hawaii really helped me to excel in!!!
