Over the past 40 years, Jeff Reynolds and a few friends have created two snapshots in time of the history of the Rio Grande Southern railroad in 1:87 scale. October 1st, 1940 and the same date in 1950 were chosen to model the dazzling fall colors of the San Juans in southwestern Colorado . Everything in the video creates a connection with and supports either date: the structures; scenery; rolling stock and locomotives; sounds; flora and fauna; all in forced perspective.
Brother John, ever the talented video editor has laid out the story for you.

Thank god his friend brought that book camping and it fell into the hands of such talented and determined modelers. Thank you for documenting and sharing this layout and it’s history with us. It truly is amazing.

What's better than a John Reynolds video about putting a mammoth engine in a little Corvair? A John Reynolds video about model trains! WOO HOO! John, your brother has done an amazing job. The family motto, "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess" runs deep in the Reynolds boys!

I used to live in Sierra Madre (right next to Pasadena CA) and I remember visiting this layout when it was in the La Cañada Flintridge area. Great modeling and it ran as good as it looks.

Perhaps the unifying link so many viewers on your channel loved this inside look at Jeff Reynolds detailed work of art is because they enjoy seeing your detailed works of art come together. I know that does it for me...and the fact that I have loved trains and model railroad since I was a kid. I still watch the trains go by with a smile every chance I get.

The RCA Mark II was one of the earliest production synthesizers built in 1959 using punch cards and costing $10K at that time. Of course the infamous Moog which was first released in 1967. There were a lot of garage units in the 1950's that never made production. The Pacific Fast Mail was not really a part of the synthesizer development, but actually the other way around.

The railroad is amazing. Being another modeler I can appreciate the time talent and dedication it took to build and maintain. Like most model railroads this one is still under construction and improvements. I would love to see the layout in person, the video does not do the detail work justice

John, what a terrific job with the trains presentation! Jeff did you ever estimate the hours spent in those three rooms creating this treasure? I'm glad Kathy and I could see it in "for real" a couple years ago!! The story, the narrative, the history and presentation - WOW!
