One thing I love about this channel is that you're able to tread the line between making something look both impressive AND doable. It's one thing to watch a tutorial and think, "Pfft, I could to that," and then fail miserably. With these videos, it's more like, "Wow, it looks interesting, and I might just have a shot." You really have a gift for this! Thank you so much. :)

When i was a child i had this thing that i did "weird" hairstyles, word used by my mom to describe it. The one that i used the most was the exact first hairstyle in this video, i vividly remember picking more and more lace to decorate the crown of my hair, when i saw the image of this video i was actually surprised not by the coincidence but also about your excelent work on this video and others that i saw, you just got one more sub 😁

I love your historical hair tutorials! Do you have any recommendations for Celtic hair? I know the term “Celtic” is a bit debated by historians as it applies to a lot of different people over different times and place with out a strong connecting force other than they liked swirly art and fighting, but I’d still love to see what youd do with hair of asked to create a “Celtic” look and compare it to a historical Iron Age look of a “celtic” region.

XD .Also I'm British but love historic fashion and hairstyles but I actually look a LOT like you miss silvousplaits so it's very interesting to see another red head with such an interest in historic hairstyles and I have low self esteem so think in time these videos may help me feel better about myself and give me something to relate to. (I hope) ha I've always loved doing fancy things with my hair I've experimented on and off for years :D

Did you know that in ancient Greece living your hair down it was a sign of freedom and they were allowed to let them down only in front of their husbands (if the husband allow that)
@sophiejones7727
@sophiejones7727 5 жыл бұрын
be careful about saying "in ancient Greece" because each city-state was quite different in terms of social norms, and that term covers several distinct periods of time. Also, that wasn't a rule anywhere but rather a poetic motif, and it was hardly unique to Greece. Kind of the same idea as the leg pop, or the blowing-curtain shot in old movies. Hair, for both men and women, was associated with sexuality: so the motif of the letting hair down was meant to suggest the act of sex (or interest in it). It was not only applied to women either, since a lot of times men wore their hair long. We still say "let your hair down" to mean "stop being prudish". Of course, given that most women's hairstyles were sewn in the era before before bobby pins: it's likely women didn't take them down very often. Additionally, as soon as your hair reaches below your shoulder blades, a braid becomes more convenient than wearing it loose because that prevents it getting caught in your clothes and jewelry (and on other stuff, like random household objects). Doubly so, since women spent a lot more time around open fires than most people today do. So women probably never wore their hair loose except in their bedrooms, not a place where anyone except the woman's husband or children had any reason to be.
