I agree that usnewsmap.com has very cool visualizations, especially for seeing when different words or phrases appeared in the newspaper over a time range. If a person's name is uncommon and you didn't know where they lived, the map visualization can help. However, for many cases, finding articles about a person with the map can be difficult, especially if the name is common. When I search for my grandfather using usnewsmap.com, I get over 10,000 matches, but the map visualization only shows 500 at one time. Just for a comparison, I used the OldNews USA Android mobile app to find articles about the L. J. Larson that you searched for in the video. I entered his name and the location, and then used the very first search suggestion provided by the app to find 5 articles about him in less than a minute. The very first search result in the list was the same article that you found in the video. Another Gem!

Its a bit headache provoking when the OCR doesn't highlight the search term in the found documents. On a small computer screen it's really difficult to even with the zoom function. It's a great idea but I like the newspaper sites that highlight your search term so you can easily find it on the page. Is this site just pulling its data from the already free sites (looks like Library of congress page when you see the newspaper) that offer that highlighted term option? This is a neat idea though, for a visual for sure.
