@@ToddKortte oh it exists, hit the regional burns. You will find the same feeling. The only "flaw" with regional is the are short.

Yeah the freedom of 2021 was really nice. I have heard so much about 4th of Juplaya. I almost went this year. How many people show up for that? Are there big camps and art cars?

​@@ToddKortte Juplaya is much smaller. I'd estimate about 1000 people this year, and that was a unique situation. There was a separate event being hosted (Everywhen, put on by some of the Plan B folks) that drew in a lot of people and helped concentrate the camps. Most years the number is probably just a few hundred folks, often *very* spread out. You'll see the occasional art car and larger camp, usually from the Reno area. Juplaya has seen a bit of a downturn in the past 5 years after BLM banned the use of fireworks and flame effects that weekend. I still go every year and have a lot of fun. Hopefully it starts growing again. Be sure to check out the hot springs if you go.

Do you think Juplya will grow every year? I know a lot of people are curious about this event and want to know more. I wonder if the PlanB folks have a social media page somewhere that people can look into.

@@ToddKortte For the past while I've felt that Juplaya has been shrinking. It doesn't feel like the 4th of July without fireworks. It's really not an event, just a bunch of people dispersed camping across all corners of the playa. I still have a lot of fun there, just don't expect it to be a burn. There are a few facebook groups, the main one I know of is "Juplaya." The group is especially useful for learning about weather conditions (the lake is often still present making it very easy for vehicles to get stuck). Everywhen is a separate event that was also held over that weekend this year. I don't know what their plans are for next year or if tickets will be required. As mentioned some of the Plan B facebook folks are associated with it. The presence of that event really did change Juplaya this year (for the better imo). In October 2022 they're also hosting an event in the Mojave desert. They have their own website and facebook groups.

Yep. 2021 was the unofficial Burning Man. 2022 was the restart of the official Burning Man.

I really can't thank you enough for sharing this with us. Only someone with the experience you have can put these words into a comment. I went out to document this year because I knew it was a special year that needed to be remembered. Without true Burners with real years of knowledge, I only have images. Your experience has so much value. I felt the difference being there in 2021, the difference that you speak of. It was truly a blessing to get a glimpse of this. Thank you! @@ToddKortte I have, yes! Generally people don't talk about it much because if you do, then loads of people go, and IT turns into TTitD as well. I will say that they years I've been, the attendance is in the, approximate 400-800s. No where near the 30,000 that was projected for Renegade.

Thank you, and great question! No as far as I know there was not a post office. I searched a lot of the camps on the PlanB website before I went out there. There was also no ice, water, or coffee for sale like you would find at center camp. There was however a semi truck trailer donating ice at a camp. I never did find the truck. They were gifting bags of ice from the truck as long as it would last. I the video you can see I was gifted a couple bags of ice....maybe this was that camp going around handing out ice? IDK.

I really think there should be a trash removal and collection process out at Burning Man. There has to be some room left in the ticket price to cover this. Some burners are not even aware that they need to take their trash for the week out with them....and there are not many options on where to put your trash once you leave. The trash has always been a problem. Its bad.

MADE IT UP?! Are you kidding me? Do you realize how hard it is and how much time it takes to make a mini Documentary like this? I would not waste my time if I am making this up. Yes you can go camp out on J, there is a lot more space because its a less desirable location because everyone wants to be "closer to the Esplanade"..... Out on J, it is still not spaced out nearly as much as 2021. Not even close! There is also more space past J in the 3 to 4 area for camping. Still not miles of empty desert space....hence the comparison that you think I made up. Its 70,000 People fenced into a controlled area (crammed) vs 30,000 people with miles of open desert. I really don't see how this is patently false as you put it.... So everything from J to the Esplanade is crammed packed! Even you said there is room out at J, but not in any streets other than J. Camps are back to back at a normal burn. At 2021, there was so much space and camps were spread out to the point that a lot of Burners mentioned they didn't feel like they needed to lock up their camp when they left. At a normal Burn you can't do that because things get taken. Are you aware that the larger theme camps set up a week before the main event? They are "assigned" an area by the Burning Man Org to build their camps. If you ever decide to join a large camp, you will know this. Some camps have a permanent spot....others get shifted around. Those shifting camps "fight to get a spot closer to the Esplanade" where most of the action is..... I can't make this up.... And the larger camps, take Spankys for example, set up camp far away (miles) from the center because there is more freedom. There are no rangers making rounds out there like in the center... The have less of a chance offending anyone (Spankys is not a place to take children). There are less people wandering into your camp. If you know their camp, you'll make the effort to go see them. Hence "more freedom." They don't have to deal with any burners that are not familiar with their camp and what they have to offer. I also want to thank you for your opinions and leaving a comment. I want people to express their opinions. You have the right to what you believe and I respect that.

@@ToddKortte I talked with the folks at Spanky's and they explained the reason they were so far out was to protect themselves if the main event area descended into chaos and violence. I think most people camping there ultimately regretted being so far away.

Yeah I went out there and talked to them too. Thank you for this info! I heard they had a pretty big party one night that was a lot of fun. We missed all of that. We drove out there during the day and hung out for awhile. Went to say hi and see who was all out there. The camp where Sacred Heart art car were also camping far away. So were the Alternate Energy camp. It was kind of fun visiting camps further out. It was like visiting small towns around a big city. It made 2021 really unique. Maybe the Org should expand past the temple for another mile or so to give camps options to spread out and be isolated destinations for retreats, late night early rise parties, or special events.

In 2021 there was no airport and no tickets. Its not even debatable.

Someone needed to document this year. Its a rare year that could have gone horribly wrong, or end up being special. We were all prepared to run if things looked bad, but they never did.
