To Celebrate the wild Burning Man 2023 insanity, we are dropping our feature documentary film Taking My Parents to Burning Man, a love letter to Black Rock City for free on KZfaq.

Bry, a reckless party animal, decides to rip his nearly retired parents from their routine and throw them into the adventure of a lifetime: A parental coming-of-age story. Shot at Burning Man 2012, this documentary helps defy the stereotypes of Burning Man, by following the unlikely adventure of two 60-year-old parents for their first burn.

Not sure exactly what is about this event that makes it so emotional for me. I absolutely love the spectacular art installations and the variety of individualism. As a 60 year old graphic designer, my favourite part of this film was the transformation I saw in the eyes of the parents - particularly the father. He seemed to be reconnected with an important part of himself that had been suppressed, which happens to many of us as we grow older and conform to societal norms.

@@SpryBry - Dude, I've wanted to go to BM for about 15 years now. I stumbled onto a video about it and did some research. But I have to say, I 've seen MANY videos and documentaries of BM and YOURS is the absolute "F"ing best. You have the best parents ever. I not only loved the entire experience, but I fell in love with your family. You, my friend, have got a winner here. It should be on Netflix, or any other streaming service. It was an adventure I would take again. I'm 64, and BM is one of my bucket list. Looks like I need to get into shape first, to get the most out of it. I hope you keep up the Docs, its Top notch. Good luck and hope to see more of you. Shop it around some of the big film festivals.

This film changed my life. The playa was calling me. It was getting louder. I started going to regionals. I saw this film July 2016 in the woods at a regional projected onto a bed sheet. It was life size. It was the first time I really had a sense what it was like to be in BRC, the streets and the dust. For the first time I could really see myself there. Less than two months later I was on the playa. ...and I made it four years in a row before the pandemic. Now tonight, I'm seeing this again after being in the dust, meeting the Tuna Guys, riding on Walter and Big Red, watching the man and temples burn, etc., etc... Full circle. "Ground Score." I got that from you. Ha! Hope you and your parents are doing well!

This guy should be a professional documentary producer, because this was absolutely top-notch!! With so much happening at Burning Man, one could get easily distracted from the topic. But he didn't... he kept it about his parents and their first experience, while also showing a lot of the "lifestyle" of Burning Man. It was really fun to watch how they would do there and you could tell as it went along, his dad really shed an outer layer and became more and more comfortable with just letting it come out. His mom seemed to also relax into it, but unfortunately with her broken ankle I don't think she was able to enjoy it as much.... but that's what NEXT year is for. [Of course I'm writing this comment 1+ year after this video was uploaded, so maybe they've already gone again?] Anyway, BRAVO! This was so wonderfully entertaining to watch. Thank you! ❤

No offense sir, but I feel like you are the epitome of 'judging'. To each their own. However "dope heads and needle junkies" is not the only addicts out there. Any substance one ingests into their body that chemically changes their mind in any minute way daily. To the point where if you don't put that into your system you get irritable or experience anxiety... You are a drug addict. Like it or not. Nicotine, alcohol, weed, caffeine, etc... Science is a motherfucker... I try to not judge. To each their own as long as it doesn't affect my life :)

Wow. This video is inspiring. I’ve been on the edge about wanting to go for honestly like a decade. I know it’s ALOT of planning. I’ve decided I am going to make it happen and try to bring my mom. Our worlds our so different, yet what has always united us will be our desire for joy and being out of the box. This was a beautiful film!

Wow! Just wow. What a cool and unique way to share your experiences and those of your parents, while capturing what I think Burning Man is like. I especially loved the spiritual aspects you so tenderly described when you and your family watched the temple burn. Thank you!

I cried off and on the entire time. One because I was nostalgic for many moons and burns ago. Two because your bond with your sweet family and how you all grew during that time was so touching. I’m curious though how did you all not get caught in the dust…it was the dustiest in history!

This was phenomenal. Every year I ask myself why I didn't not go as I have dozens and dozens of friends who go and I know I would love it. This is the best documentary I've seen explaining what it is like without overtly trying to do so. Showcasing the transformation of your father from an office worker to a dusty playa dancefloor dominator was the apex of this film. Incredible kudos to your very open parents to trying something radically inclusively different. You've made me want to go more than ever before.
