Bohemian Rhapsody is like the American Revolutionary war cartoons you watched in 5th grade: it gets the general story across but skips over the non-family friendly parts like slavery (or for queen the major coke and alcohol usages).

One of the things that reallly bugged me was how they never mentioned Freddie getting vocal nodules. In my opinion, that was a huge event that affected Queen's career until Freddie's passing, with his voice getting progressively deeper and raspy as time went on.

This movie has so many inaccuracies, it’s embarrassing. And as a Queen fan, I find it heartbreaking. But if you let this movie stand on its own, and just watch it without picking out what did and didn’t really happen, it was actually a good movie. It’s fun, makes you laugh, gets deep, and has a feel good ending.

16:47 An interesting and funny tidbit you missed: Queen had to ask Groucho Marx permission in order to keep using "A Night At The Opera" and "A Day At The Races" as album titles. Groucho's response? "I am really happy that you are naming your albums after my movies and that you are being successful. I will allow it. In fact, I will be honoured if you name your next album after my new movie: Greatest Hits of the Rolling Stones".

to be honest? it's REALLY WEIRD to watch a film with such heavy involvement with some ex band members paint Freddie like a total creep in many ways......... what was THAT all about? because no actual events or interviews appear to confirm it as truth.....

It definitely suffered from band members changing the narrative, as well as a sped up timeline, but Rami was wonderful and the reason I rewatch it occasionally.

This movie was simply frustrating for anyone that knows a little bit of Queen history. This movie also shows how it can be a very bad idea to have band member as executive producers. Brian May and Roger Taylor made themselves appear more like saints. Roger Taylor himself was a well known party animal, womanizer and coke user. Ironically despite some of their partying Queen was definitely not the worst when it came to these things. The only Queen member who really developed problems was John Deacon with his drinking. Freddie Mercury was a very dedicated musician, according to their sound engineers and producers he spent the the most time in the studio out of everyone. In the movie it appears as if he is always late, and as if he never spends time in the studio. You can understand how a movie might not always be accurate, but the worst part of the movie by far was how they pretended as if Freddie broke up the band to do a solo album. Queen never broke up. Freddie Mercury's first priority was always Queen, he took two years to record his solo album because he did the Queen album - The Works in-between, and Queen did a whole world wide, The Works tour. The highlight of the tour was the Rock In Rio Festival, where they played for a massive audience of almost 400k people. Queen did well at Live Aid, because the band was in good form, The Works tour had ended 5 weeks before Live Aid. It is ridiculous to think that a band who has not played together for years, are suddenly going to steal the show at such a big event. That is basically what happened to Led Zeppelin, they performed at Live Aid, but they had not played together for years, and it was pretty bad. Freddie did not even promote his solo album, Roger did more promotion for his solo albums. Freddie's solo albums were not as unsuccessful and Brian May and Roger Taylor like to pretend. After Freddie's death they took some of his solo material and rerecorded it with their own instrumentation. So they obviously did not think it was that bad, if they still used the material. The way in which Freddie was represented as selfish jerk during this section especially was incredibly unfair and grating to watch.

I like when he said "Anything over 3 minutes and they won't play it, period," when Bob Dyaln's "Like A Rolling Stone" was 6 minutes as well and recieved a LOT of airplay back in the day, 10 years before the release of "Bohemian Rhapsody"

The movie also used "fat bottomed girls" performed during their US tour in 1974, while the song did not came out untill 1978 as single for the Jazz album, along with Bicycle race. Same thing with the We Will Rock you scene. Which clearly takes place during the 80's, while the song was written in 1977 and had a slidely different story behind it.

It would be awesome if History Buffs could do the mini-series "Chernobyl", I'd love to see how accurate it is to the source material

While the Sex Pistols were recording Never Mind the Bollocks and Queen were recording News of the World in an adjacent studio, Johnny Rotten crawled in on all fours, up to the piano, said "Hi, Freddie," then crawled out. Johnny Rotten loved Freddie.

My issue with the movie is that Brian and Roger allowed the writers to rewrite history and that Brian and Roger used to movie to piss on the graves of people who can't defend themselves, like Paul Prenter

The scene where the audience sings Love of my life... Can you imagine the feelings of the song writer who has witnesses this ? Kind of brings a chill down my spine.

You should have mentioned that the reason Mike Myers playing the EMI executive, who thinks that Bohemian Rapsody is too long, is particularly clever, is because Mike Myers had to fight his movie company to use Bohemian Rapsody in the famous Wayne's World sing-along in the Gremlin. Cheeky.

Once again, knowing the actual history makes me sad about the movie we got and thinking the more historically accurate film we never saw would have been better.

Btw shout out too Marc Martel who did all of the dubbing for Marc Martel where Rami Malik couldn't lip sync actaul recordings. Doing freddie mercury's singing voice for his biopic can't be easy.

Queen were delighted to get onto Top Of The Pops as that was the great vehicle which propelled all the major acts back in the day. The last thing they would have done at the BBC studios would have been to complain about miming because if they did they would have quickly been shown the door.

As a massive, die-hard Queen fan, while the film is entertaining and well acted, it does not do Queen or Freddie Mercury justice. The one good thing about this film is that it had brought a whole new generation of Queen fans, which I'm happy about, but if you want the real story of Freddie Mercury and Queen, then the film is not a good source for it. The real story of Queen is a fascinating and brilliant and certainly deserves better treatment. But what makes the inaccuracies so unforgiving is that both Brian May and Roger Taylor were involved, you'd have thought that they would have pointed it out and corrected them, but no they didn't. I really like Brian May and Roger Taylor, both as musicians and as people, but I think having both of them being executive producers was a mistake, they should have just been technical advisors and nothing more. At least John Deacon wisely chose to stay out of it (but that's because he's now retired and doesn't want to do anything in public). I may be wrong on this, but from what I've read, most of the fighting and arguments within Queen was actually started by Brian May, mainly because he was a bit of a perfectionist, and he often targeted his frustration at either Roger Taylor or Freddie Mercury, (mainly Roger). Freddie Mercury did get involved in his fair share of arguments and fighting, but more often he and John Deacon were the peacemakers. I read this somewhere, but I can't remember where exactly, so I could be wrong.

Ya know what's funny? There is that scene where the producer is all "they would never play a 6 minute song on the radio" and then he's wrong but uh... There is no point in this movie, which is named after the song, in which they play the entire song uncut. Not even over the credits or something.

the acting, casting, and costumes were amazing and i genuinely enjoy the movie, but i wish it was more accurate and painted freddie mercury and queen accurately

THANK YOU NICK! I was waiting for the last two minutes of this video...... Freddie didn't break up Queen. Roger Taylor had already released two solo albums at that point. I hated that scene. Alot of this film vilified Freddie and covered up every shitty money grubbing thing Roger Taylor attempted throughout the groups tenure. I've been a Queen fan for about eleven years, so I know some of the inaccuracies of the movie. However, I understand that for the sake of brevity (and drama) they had to take artistic liberties. I do like this history lesson, though. I'm learning stuff I didn't know before (about Smile and other details).

Whilst the cast and production values were good this was such a sanitized film that took Braveheart-levels of historical liberty. Freddie is portrayed as an arrogant eccentric, when that was just his public persona, he was really an introvert who lived with cats. Also what baffles me is... they gave Rami Malek fake teeth, BUT THEN DIDN'T BOTHER TO GIVE HIM BROWN CONTACTS??

That tribute from Heathrow Airport just made me feel something that I can't explain cuz I'm cringing too hard

As a huge Queen fan I still enjoy the hell out of this movie, even though a lot of it is not true. Rami Malek still did a great job as Freddie in my opinion.

Bit of trivia for you. The guy singing at 5:39 is named Marc Martel and is the former lead singer of tribute band Queen Extravaganza. He used to front a Christian band named Downhere before they split up and was always told that he sounded like a young Freddie Mercury. Look up Marc's Somebody to Love audition for Queen Extravaganza. It's remarkable.

Im glad that you did Bohemian Rhapsody, because think the history aspect is more important to this movie than most. It could have either been a movie with a 3 act structure or a recreation/celebration of queen(well mostly Freddie Mercury's) career, in my opinion the movie didn't really stick to either all the way but it definitely dropped the ball on the historical angle.

The best part about doing a historical movie on a rock band/artist is that you can always name the movie after their greatest hit song. For Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, for Elton John, Rocket Man. I imagine if they do one on the Eagles it'll probably be either Hotel California or The Long Run.

Queen stopped touring in the USA because MTV banned their music video for the song "Body Language", and there is a little known story that could have been intresting to talk about sort of a Rock VS Punk story: One day while recording the News of the World album Freddie and Roger met the Sex Pistols in the studio and they started fighting. Sid Vicious said that their sound (especially the albums Sheer Heart Attack and Day at the Races) were soft and "gay" so freddie called him "Simon Ferocious" so Sid tried to attack him so Freddie pushed him out of the studio. In reaction Roger wrote the song Sheer Heart Attack to prove that anybody can write a punk song. So you can say that Sheer Heart Attack is the only Queen song which is intentionally bad. But Brian liked the song so they played it live until 1982.

Thing that even queen fans don't know is that Freddie Mercury came out publicly as bisexual in 1976, al ot of fans think it was somewhere in the eighties but Freddie Mercury came out publicly in the song Good Old-Fashiond Lover Boy, the song is literally about Freddie's first date with his first boyfriend David Minns

Whenever I hear Bohemian Rhapsody, the first thing that always will pop into my head is the guys singing along in the Mirthmobile in Wayne's World. It's forever etched into my mind. How can you not remember that epic scene inside a 1976 bright blue Pacer with flames on the side. Lol SHWING!!!!

I remember hearing some people say the relationship between Freddie and Mary in the movie was not worth focusing on. I'll be honest, I haven't seen the movie, but I already know some Queen history. And some people just don't understand how deep Freddie and Mary's relationship was. Even after their engagement ended, they were very good friends til Freddie's death. Freddie even left her a good chunk of his estate in his will. His reasoning for it was that she would have been his wife anyways. The man was absolutely affectionate towards Mary, and it even made some of his male lovers jealous.

The sole good thing for any of these historical character movies, in my mind, is that people like you can use them as a platform to talk about the real history. Every inaccuracy, big and small, is inexcusable to me, because these mainstream representations essentially are the history for most people, who won't look into it any more.

To be honest, I feel Ray Foster's major inspiration is from Queen's first manager, Norman Sheffield.

With any complaints about Bohemian Rhapsody being too long, there is actually precedent for bands getting radio stations to play longer songs. Rush famously managed to get "Working Man" played on radio after DJs realised it would give them enough time for a toilet break.

18:44: Sort of. Brian May embellished that story. All of the background vox were on two 2” tapes networked between a pair of Studer 16 track recorders and transferred to new tape a few times. The actual tape that was “see through” was the tape that had the guitar rhythm and solo parts which Brian layered endlessly before realizing there was magnetic degradation. So essentially he cheekily blamed it in the vocals. There are archived tracking sheets and notes at EMI to confirm this.
