I’m glad he acknowledged the fact that Nazi Germany has some land in Antarctica for a bit. Im not supporting what the Nazis did or anything but I feel like its a pretty unknown fact that they had some stuff in Antarctica for a bit. Edit: so i changed it to say “Im not supporting what the nazis did” instead of “i’m not supporting nazism” because I don’t actually know if nazism is a real word or not. I saw someone say it once but i felt like i should change it in case it isn’t actually the correct word.

Shouldve mentioned: The idea of Terra Australis, (greek philosophers of the 2nd century correctly guessing there must be a hidden big southern continent "to balance the Earth's mass"); Fuegians (native americans of Tierra del Fuego, relatively close to the Peninsula but never saw it because there was no reason to go further south down the wild Passage); Hui-te-Rangiora (some polynesian guy whose stories have been dated to the 7th century, of "sailing south until finding snow and rock covered oceans" which some interpret as a very early sighting of Antarctic sea ice)

@@vicvos3766 Australia as we know today only got that name because after a lot of searching they didnt find Antarctica and thought Australia was the "big southern continent" but then a while later they did find it and had to use another name They chose Antarctica as in "Anti-arctic"

Also after Amundsen and Scott there was this guy named after iron shackles who tried to walk across the entirety of Antarctica. He failed, and his ship got stuck on ice for a year, then his crew got stuck on an island, and HE got stuck in Chile waiting for ice to melt. Then he came back, got knighted by the British, went back, and died after seeing ice again. Then he got buried on a flyspeck, the end.
