I would love underwater combat to come back, if they do it right. So many cool monsters that you can't really fight on land, and being completely underwater invites so much creativity with designs
@Carcharadroid
@Carcharadroid 4 жыл бұрын
Possibly an unpopular take here, but I truly think they should tackle underwater combat again. Give it another fair go, as long as it's not at the expense of other things. Monsters like Lagiacrus just...lost something without the ability to fight them underwater. Not to mention creatures like Ceadeus and Dire Miralis seemingly off the table for who knows how long without its reintroduction. That and as someone who's been playing since MH1, I cannot begin to tell you how satisfying it was to follow Plesioth into the water to kick his ass, instead of doping around with frogs and sonic bombs trying to get him to get back on land. Only for him to dive right back in again! Honestly it was so cathartic to follow the fricker to his turf.

OMG this is way too good! Thank you so much for doing this, it brings so many memories, you deserve A LOT more views. Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii is what introduced me to the series and I spent 900 hours on it (300h offline and 600h online), and even left World of Warcraft for it. I remember buying a Nintendo 3DS SPECIFICALLY for MH3U, and I played it all over again and it was the very perfection so far, the only unfortunate thing is that I couldn't play it online, but I enjoyed my time playing the campaign all over again with a bunch of new additions weapons and monsters. I'm playing MH4U right now on the 3DS and I'm so happy to say the online is still active with a lot of people, which is so god damn impressive.

Tri was also my introduction to the series, half the fun was figuring the game out. Barroth's charge gave PTSD but served as the reason I took the game seriously, and then I made everything out of him. After finishing tri I thought it was alright, until I went online and got hooked. Extra info; tri introduced monster stamina and reworked flinches & topples so flinch locking wasn't as 'easy' as 2nd gen, it also made the AI's moveset a bit more random; though abusing turn rate was still possible. Amazing video btw, if YT becomes your career you certainly have a strong foundation.

Man.... I MISS the Underwater Combat so much! Admittedly, YES! T'was Clunky AF, but there was always JUST something about fighting a Leviathan like Lagiacrus in it's Home Turf that really managed to get my Blood boiling! It was Fun, definitely anxiety inducing & as Good as it was Bad on a technical level. Personally I hope they'll bring it back for a Future title & I bet they could probably get it to work pretty Dang well if they give it a real try! Cause I really do wanna fight Lagia again in Modern graphical fidelity but I also REALLY really do wanna fight him in his Home Turf. The Leviathans in Tri were SO Awesome just cause of that for me! ❤

I like Khezu a lot, but have to admit it probably nostalgia more than anything. But other than that, in complete agreement with your list. I'll never understand why they brought Lavasioth to World instead of Agnaktor (I figure it was probably much easier to bring over, as well as to make an additional monster with the mud-lad)
@vinaboy1993
@vinaboy1993 3 жыл бұрын
Maximillion Pegasus Nostalgia can blind us all. Who knows, maybe underwater sucks for real, but since Tri was my first MH game, it will still hold a special place in my monster slaying heart. As for why they brought back Lavasioth instead of Agnaktor. I can only assume it has to do with the same clipping issue. Because of Agnas long body, the contact area with the ground was also long, which is taxing on the system with all the slopes, ledges and whatnot.

Not much to say here, mostly leaving a comment for the algorithmic other than I also bought a Wii U exclusively for MH3U. I remember being really upset because I was a poor uni student and couldn't afford it, only to get a tax return from a job I'd had in a gap year which more than covered the purchase. One day I'll try figure out what the deal was with medium bowguns - it really seems like nobody ever really "mained" them in Tri, so noone cared that they never came back. Never been much of a gunner (excluding bows)

I love p3rd. Monster hunter always was one of my favorite games, but p3rd did everything right. The music, the art, the difficulty, controls, everything felt fair. And i genuinely believe that Tri is the best looking monster hunter game to this day and the closest we have got to those intros. World has awesome graphics, but missed the style and color. And GU is oversaturated and has the the "remaster" problem (when the upscaled game looks more dated due to it being upscaled)

@@SuperRADLemon i feel like this is not only the graphics the same is true about the music and even SFX It just feels less monster hunter. B-52 theme, new Zinogre and Nargacuga themes are the true monster hunter OST , but can't say the same about many other compositions and remixes. I literally forgot how the World's Teo and Jho themes sound, despite having some hunts 4 days ago. They still great, just not the same. Astera is not a village for sure.

I played 3U after playing 4U, and I enjoyed it, though the grinding was really bad sometimes. for some of the giggnox weapons, you need like 4 of a 10% drop or something like that. regardless, I really liked it. I have no strong opinions on underwater combat, though I like underwater environments, underwater combat made plesioth not terrible, and I would like to see the mechanic return. the way elder dragons were handled is also unique, all elder dragons in 3rd gen are really big and have their own arena. I imagine elder dragons left more of an impression on people who started with 3rd gen than people who started with other gens. a lot of 3rd gen monsters were also kindoff replacements for first gen monsters, such as qurupeco replacing kut-ku, uragaan replacing gravios, nibelsnarf replacing cephadrome, etc. I honestly prefer the 3rd gen counterparts to the older ones, and I really wish generations didn't favour the older monsters so much and had more 3rd gen monsters. well, they'll get their time eventually. also, I'm not 100% sure, I could be wrong or I could be partially right, but I believe tri was the first time they started using the engine MT framework, wich they've been using ever since, with world still using the same engine, though modified.

I love the way 3u handled elder dragons, one of my minor gripes with world is that most elders don't feel special. Vaal, teo, and kush for instance are just sort of there and are hunted like normal monsters. Where as in 3u every elder Dragon had great build up, with ceadeus it was built up in the sense that after so long you finally get to see what's been causing to earth quakes, when I saw him for the first time my jaw dropped as it was the first time I had seen something so large in the game. And even though jhen, ala, and dire don't have much build up story wise, they still feel immensely powerful and very special due not only to their sizes, but also the fact they all have their own arenas, and great music for them. Each one truly has a fight that differs from the rest of the game. As cool as the elders are in world, this is something most world elders lacked.

God Stygian Zinogre and Abyssal Lagiacrus look incredible Also thanks for this series, I remember playing the 4U demo over and over on my 3DS when I was like 14 and was so hyped to actually kill the Gore Magala, for the first time I'm tryna get into the series, catching up with World and gonna get RISE later on

I started with Tri but since it was my first actual action game, I was wrestling with even basic stuff like moving the camera. Not a great start when the game sports the most camera focused mode ever, underwater. It ended up being my most frustrating gaming experience ever. That said, I later picked up 3U, played it with friends and actually grew to become a massive fan of Monster Hunter. The target cam is a huge part of why I even made it this far lol That said, I actually fire up Tri from time to time just to experience bowgun crafting again. Mixing and matching for unique ammo combos was such a cool idea only hindered by limited monster pools and probably also very exploitable. I'd love to see a refined version of it.

I started with MHW but once I got addicted and wanted to play the old games I started with MH3U and fell in love with the Leviathans and underwater combat and felt right at home in it, ended up getting about halfway through G rank but never finished, was considering getting a WiiU so I could try multiplayer and finish off.

Damn, you just keep pumping these videos, chill out hahahaha Great video as always though! Personally I started with 3u, and as you said, underwater combat was just a thing that sorta fitted in with the rest of the game. As I had no prior experience with the series, I didnt know underwater combat was a new thing, although I totally think they nailed the verticality aspect of the combat in 4/4u and wouldnt trade the climbing system from those games by the underwater combat in a lifetime! Although I dont think it is broken or anything, its just more slow and less fun in my opinion, since both you and the monsters have more limited move sets. I also have trouble judging the distance of my attacks while underwater, but maybe thats just me... I would also like to point out that I never played portable 3rd, but have been on the fence for years. On the one hand I have part of me that says its not worth the time investment since I already have way too many hours clocked in at both tri and 3u to justify playing 3rd, especially since a lot of stuff like the monsters and misty peaks made a comeback in 3u. The thing is that portable 3rd just has a special aura to it that makes it extremely appealing to me, and I cant forgive myself for not knowing yukumo village like the back of my hand since it looks so lovely hahahaha There is also the fact that if I were to play it I would probably force myself to import the psp version and then get some english patch on it, which is slightly more troublesome than just going to a second hand store and grab a copy of freedom unite for example... Anyway, Im just rambling. Great video, and cant wait for the 4th gen rundown!

Thanks for the detailed reply! I highly suggest trying 3rd if you can get your hands on it. It really is a different experience compared to Tri and 3U, and is one of the best portable experiences ever.

Quick question for 3U! I noticed how you have the target icon on main screen like in GU on the upper right and I’m wondering where in the settings can you apply that??

I remember in Tri having to point the wiimote at an aptonoth and drag it to the notebook to register it in hunter notes. It never worked right so glad they did away with that nonsense with 3u and onwards. Totally agree with deviljho as the best addition. And damn how good would Peco look in worlds fidelity.

Honestly, i had an idea on how they could revive underwater combat Instead of the hunters swimming, just limit the hunters to walk on the ocean's floor. This way underwater combat is still similar to normal combat, the only difference is that now leviathans or any other sea creatures are able to sort of "fly" by swimming. It's like you fight a Rathalos but instead with a Lagiacrus underwater
@julianx2rl

Lagiacrus is sort of the Aquatic Rathalos, in the sense that is the main monster of that realm.

3u is my intro to monster hunter and it’s really shaped my wishes for future games. Which is another way of saying GIVE US GIGGINOX BACK CAPCOM I DON’T WANT TO DEAL WITH KHEZU AND HIS OST AGAIN Also I miss water combat... to an extent. It’s a shame what became of Lagiacrus in Gen (I personally hated it) and the unknown fates of cedeaus and miralis just make me sad. They’re such cool monsters and a reworked water combat system would be hype... but not as much as my favourite monster gigginox returning

3rd generation became more anime. I'm glad it became that way because realistic gritty graphics don't translate well in older and weaker consoles. Now that we have better consoles its become a perfect time to bring back the realistic gritty design.
