A detailed breakdown of the life and career of Mac Dre. From his beginnings in the early Vallejo rap scene with contemporaries like E-40 and the click to becoming an early breakout star in the Bay Area, Mac Dre was a superstar early on. His career was derailed by the Romper Room federal investigation, which led to Mac Dre doing five years in prison and being the first rapper to record an album from jail. Once released, he built his momentum up with several independent projects until he reached his peak with his own label, Thizz Entertainment. Just as it seemed like Dre was heading towards new heights of success, he was tragically shot and killed in Kansas City. But Mac Dre's legacy is still alive and well, and this video pays tribute to the fallen legend with informative details of his history.

You do a great job with your show Dregs, growing up in the 90's I was part of the largest graff crew in Santa Rosa called SRK and I am really loving all the local Bay hip-hop I grew up on that you cover.

Hey, Bay Area rap fans! I just discovered a sample to one of my favorite Mac Dre song! Im kind of happy about it because i searched Google and nobody has ever referenced it. Maybe only me and the producer know about it! Lol It's actually Andre Nickatina featuring Mac Dre... The classic, "Cadillac Girl." The sample is actually from the musical score to the original 1971 version of Shaft. It's not in the sound track it's just a score to the film. It's one of the last scenes when John Shaft rescues that girl from the Mafia. It can be watched here at about 45 seconds in... Hey, Bay Area rap fans!
