Hip hop is not a favorite genre of mine but Woodie's music and his approach to it caught my appreciation. His first EP, Yoc Influenced, doesn't even sound like hip-hop. His beats in that album sound like 1980's alternative music: synth pop and new wave (Depeche Mode, New Order). Much respect to him, the legacy he left behind, and all the musicians he inspired.

And towards the end of his life he was touching really controversial subjects about the USA government and the patriot act having your rights taken from you as a us citizen.
