The Somali people are one of the most homogenous ethnic groups on the African continent and their origins and history can be traced back to antiquity and biblical times.
They were not always referred to as “Somalis” but bore many different names in ancient times. The people that inhabited the horn of Africa and were the ancestors of today’s Somalis were referred to as the Macrobians by the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus.
Here are some of the references used to make this video:
The Macrobians: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrobi...
Herodotus "The Histories book" Book 3, Chapter 114.
Somali Calendar a study by Said M-Shidad Hussein: web.archive.org/web/201309210...
Somali Lore: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somali_... and Folktales From Somalia by Ahmed Artan Hanghe: www.amazon.com/Folktales-Soma...

Can you give us your sources for all your info? And are you a historian/archaeologist? It would be brilliant if people like you went back once the country fully stabilises to excavate and preserve our history.

I have updated the video with the sources, thank you for your interest in Somali History! I am not an archeologist but someone who takes a keen interest in Somali history and African history in general. There are some great researchers and historians working on the subject of ancient Somalia, I have added some of them in the video description.

@@wealthofhumanity the somali history is not accurate though u tried ur best to tell still there is errors in it for example when it comes to religion we Isaaqqs are not convert moslims but we are born moslim who descendants frm the early sheiks like " Isaxaaq / Isaac / Isaaq " on the other hand this name " Waaq " belongs to the people lived there before the somali geneology began who intermarried by the sheik arabs spreading Islam than that is the only people who are the converts not us Isaaqs , thnk u

Thank you for your interest in Somali history! I would love to be able to recommend you a book on ancient Somalia’s history but to my knowledge there is not one opus exclusively dedicated to the subject. You can find several books that cover parts of ancient Somalia’s history. In antiquity, Herodotus "The Histories book" Book 3, Chapter 114, Zeila in antiquity is mentioned as Avalites in “The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea”. I would also encourage you to read this great study on the subject of the Ancient Somali calendar by Said M-Shidad Hussein: web.archive.org/web/201309210... as well as Folktales From Somalia by Ahmed Artan Hanghe: www.amazon.com/Folktales-Soma... I will continue to research, produce videos and share as much as possible on these under covered topics. Happy reading!
