@@steamchasers2809 I am the Malcolm Taylor who was on duty that day, I wrote the story for the Middleton Guardian years ago.it was great to see again,I am nearly 80 but it seemed like yesterday,what it does not relate, it all happened in minutes.yes I can relate other stories.

@@steamchasers2809 Hi Colin yes I wrote that true story also,the guy is still with us hence no name, cruel I was, but another story same guy, I had a dolly signal from the Chadderton branch outside the box,one day an engine just slid past whilst against him,the same guy saw this,those days the jct was only a little village I said would you go and get me some emry paper from the hardware shop he did I said would you just rough that rail as you saw the train slip past ok I will and he did until the station master saw him.Happy days we all laughed afterwards

Another one of many Colin I had a coal train going up to Burnley, he past my home signal at danger, no time to put detonators down so threw a fine bucket at the engine,the driver stopped in the station, I shouted send your fireman over to the box I'll tell you when I have a road for you,fireman came up to the box saying you wont report him will I said no I will not after dressing down, next thing voice from the engine do you want some coal, one was always after coal for the fire in the box to keep warm , I got a road for him and away he went,when the train had past I saw the platform was full of coal, good job it was Sunday and not busy as I was shoveling coal off the platform all day
