Interesting to note. The founding fathers were actually aware of “all men created free and equal” being in contradiction to slavery. However in order to actually have a chance in hell of winning a revolution they needed the support (specifically the financial support) of wealthy southern slave owners. So they played a bit of real politic and kicked the can down the road for later generations to sort out.

@@ARCtheCartoonMaster the north of the US is very rocky and cold it has little to no growing season so no food production therefore not as many slave (people still had house slaves and stuff) the south is very warm soft and flat. It was practically asking for people to farm on it and cotton was in such high demand that a man named Eli Whitney created a cotton gin which picked out the seeds of the cotton. This made is so that cotton could be made even faster so the south needed even more slaves to make as much money as possible. In other words one half of the country did not need slaves, and the other half had become economically dependent on it. That’s one of the main reasons for how the civil war came about
@pawncube6787
@pawncube6787 2 жыл бұрын
Thomas Jefferson wrote a diatribe against slavery in the Declaration of Independence, but one of the people who cowrote it pointed out that they needed Southern support. Turns out, most of the people in the South preferred British rule anyway and didn't help out the revolutionary effort as much(with notable exceptions like the Swamp Fox guerrillas) If the diatribe had stayed, it's possible that slavery could have been ended in the infant stages of the US, rather than 87 years after.

It's analogues to antigrav, impulse engines and warp engines in Star Trek. And of course all of that tech is theoretical only in our world. If you start nitpicking SyFy of course there are a million things wrong with it or that don't seem to make sense IRL. It's all technobabble to get the good guys and the bad guys to the places they need to go and to be able to fight with each other. Granted Star Trek is a little more grounded in science but still.

@@francescoragnoni8042 Not all engines, but many. And yes they are much more efficient than they should be :D Space/air combat in Star Wars is modeled after World War 2 dogfighting so the starfighters often behave more like propeller planes than spaceships. Hence also why they're mainly reliant on "guns" a.k.a. their laser cannons than the guided missile weaponry of real fighter jets.

Turns out, another English settler lived in what is now Boston before the main Massachusetts Bay Area group showed up. William Blaxton from Lincolnshire, decided to join the Ferdinando Gorges Expedition in 1623. Ferdinando Gorges is the man heavily involved in British colonization of New England, including having a land grant for Maine, but never actually set foot in the Americas. Back to William. The expedition of 1623 was considered a failure and while most of his fellow settlers returned home, he decided to live on the Shawmut Peninsula (now old Boston) alone in 1625. William is ALSO the first to settle Rhode Island. This happened because he didn't like leaders of the Boston church, so he decided to move south to what is now Cumberland, Rhode Island. The first to settle Rhode Island in 1635, one year before Roger Williams founded the Providence Plantations.

Expanding with the corn jokes: Around 1900's i think we looked into corn and found out that its probably the best crop out there. Not only for food but for products. too many to list but i suggest looking it up, definitely interesting. Issues with corn however is that its taking up a LOT of farm space, and we are extremely over reliant on it for many products, so if a disease came through and wiped out corn, we'd be in big trouble.

Thank you for bringing up that point about Haiti, it's not just "oh the earthquake did that and they never recovered because poor", it's more than that. Once you dive deep into Haitian history, you start to realize why they're like this, and makes you respect them after everything the people have gone through. And a lot of it has to do with France. If you look at a pic of the Haiti-DR border, you can see that the DR is much greener than Haiti. Well, like you said, France wanted the colony to be extremely profitable. Not just sugar, but coffee too. They destroyed the soil by aggressively harvesting the same crops over and over again. Over the course of fifty years, a quarter of the colony was all coffee with the original forests cleared. They were also forced to export timber as part of paying off 90 million francs as compensation to France. The colonization, compensation and its effects, left a lasting impact on the country. That this republic, who successfully rebelled against their colonial masters and simply wanted to be their own thing free from colonization, and what did they get in return? Being forced to pay off a nearly impossible substantial amount of francs just to remain free. Why? Because France was jealous they were outsmarted by another race. And the US didn't even recognize them at the time! All of this, on top of what the Duvalier dynasty did to Haiti, is why Haiti is the way it is.
@Vitorruy1
@Vitorruy1 2 жыл бұрын
There is also a little know story about the United States screwing over Haiti in the 90's, they had this theory that Haiti was "stuck" in a agricultural phase and needed incentives to start industrializing, so the US doestroyed its only profitable sector. Bill Clinton released a public apology about it later on.

12:55 "But yeah we gotta think about that when we talk about that poverty" It's probably worth mentioning that shortly after Haiti won its independence, in order to prevent liberation becoming more widespread in the Americas, Thomas Jefferson pursued a policy of isolation preventing Haiti from participating in trade in the Atlantic, followed shortly by France threatening a naval assault if Haiti did not agree to pay 'reparations' to the nation of France and the French slave-owners for 'loss of property' (i.e. the human beings who had just won their freedom). Haiti was paying off that debt until 1947.
