I am 71 and I have never played so well. I tell my friends it's because of the party hat guy. I never had lessons and I love playing tennis now. My friends aren't listening but I am beating them because of you. I wish I sinew this stuff when I was a kid. I played my 42 year old son for 6 hours today. Just couldn't stop playing. I love learning this game.

Probably the most comprehensive tutorial on serve I have seen. Just while practicing the recommended steps, I could already feel the difference. The idea behind snapping your hand when it is hurt was in particular very illustrative and immediately helped me understand pronation. Looking forward to taking this to the courts!

There’s an endless supply of videos and video lessons but I’m a believer that you need to kill the clutter - Find something to focus on and adopt the principals. This is an utterly amazing step by step set of serving principals that deserves focus and repetitive practice. I’m going to kill the clutter and make this my serving Bible. Can’t thank you enough for the depth and willingness to truly teach!

@@2MinuteTennis appreciate you highlighted really important points. I passed this through my own experience and they are workable. The best in this video that you describe terminology that you are using together with motions and pointing “how not to proceed”. Lot of couches they do understand terminology not correctly and they explain in a wrong way to their students.

Your analysis of the whip action is amazing. The timing of the upward leg push and the stopping of the body rotation to accelerate the racket, is the missing magic for many people. Analysis of the biomechanical chain shows that the timing of the body, upper arm, forearm, and racket needs to be well timed like a whip. You are an amazing teacher and you get all of the mechanic spot on.

I just turned 80 and my serve has become easier to return than I would like. I refuse to attribute this to my 'slowing down' but obviously, my serving racket speed has slowed down. I have taken notes about the fine points of the serve as you explained it and plan to take apart my current serving technique and build it back again BETTER. With improvements in accuracy of hitting my targets, increasing racket speed, and applying sufficient spin, I hope to squeeze out enough refinement to get to the point where my serve will become a weapon instead of a weakness. Your analysis should help considerably. Thanks.

Amazingly thorough, amazingly insightful, thank you for this video!!! Breaking everything down into the 7 checkpoints with such detail, anyone can improve their serve if they just patiently follow the instructions. Tbh, it's an overwhelming amount of info, and will take a long time to master. But with dedicated practice and incremental improvements over time, and by not rushing the process, any one can apply the steps outlined and see significant improvement in their serve. My mind was blown away at the many insights explained in this video. From the fastest motion in the arm being the wringing of an old style mercury thermometer, to the stoppage of your arm motion after/during uncoiling to just before/after the contact point leading to a tremendous release of stored energy/momentum etc. Everything makes sense total sense! For someone like me who never learned the proper technique for serving, just working on 1 or 2 checkpoints at a time rather than trying to cram all 7 together during practice session makes the task a lot more manageable. And obviously starting with the basics and mastering checkpoint 1, the proper setup and checkpoint 2, the palm down position, then birthday hat etc. before moving on to the rest of the steps is the logical and practical way to work on one's serve. Thanks again!
